I was probably stage 3 shortly after colectomy. No dr. said a word about diet, sodium, phosphorous, general malnutritition. That was 35 years ago. I now fluctuate stage 4-stage 2. I appreciate your info more than you could understand. Phosphorus has been a problem and no nephrologist has bothered to address.

Thanks for the video, it freaked me out a bit, but it was explained very well and why it is so important. My nephrologist just basically said “try to keep your phosphorus intake down” it’s so frustrating with this disease that so many doctors don’t really educate and just basically want you to wait until things get worse and you need dialysis. I really appreciate your videos and information as I am finding that there are things we can do to try to slow the process. I wish you could be my Dr!!

I think you do very well presenting the information. I had no idea the kidneys did so much in our body and even less knowledge of how everything revolves around another thing. It's very overwhelming and confusing, so you will never know how much I appreciate, not only all the information that you give, but also the way in which you give it. You explain the WHOLE picture and not just one side of it.

There is a couple of friends of mine who have randomly complained about bone pain, and they both have CKD and diabetes. They will both be surprised about the calcium. They love cheese and dairy. I thought it was the infrequent soda that might be the culprit for the bad phosphorus. I pray that they watch this and get everything that they need to change things.

Thank you for sharing this with your friends. Phosphorus additives can be so sneaky and can be added to any type of food so it's always best to check the ingredient list of labels for "phos" anything!

Wow! The genius behind making this video… God bless you! God bless the doctor giving the information too! This week I was legit looking up videos on phosphorus to help understand it better, and no one went into detail like folks with CKD need them to go into. I wish that pre-renal education was more profitable or even mandated. To wait until a person reaches ESRD seems a disservice. A person should be well educated at the CKD level so that they have time and knowledge to delay or halt the progression of their renal decline😢

Thank you both for explaining about PHOSPHORUS in CKD, in mid April my Cowboy goes to the doctor and I'm really excited to know what his lab work will show. I'm praying 🙏 he will still be in stage 3 low end. Exactly the lifestyle change in food will definitely 👌 💯 work by sticking with it. The only dark soda pop that doesn't have any PHOSPHORUS is A & W Root Beer, they only kind I offer to my Cowboy when we eat homemade pizza or black bean burgers. Happy March 🍀

I LOVE the science. I finally understand MBD, the binders & the feedback loop. I agree with Nan, APRN. I am a retired NP also, but am learning all I can to help a family member. These video's are amazing. People with CKD can learn so much about the disease & how to remain as stable as possible. You two are wonderful! You give people some control over their disease. And, thank-you for the wonderful reminder that it's critical to read food labels (avoid PHOS!) & eat a healthy plant-based diet! I'm a health-nut & have read food labels for years but admit, I never looked for PHOS till now. I'm surprised how often I see it.

Thank you for this. I will definitely watch it again. I already eat a plant-based diet and avoid processed food, but my labs for ostopenia evaluation this year are showing a phosphorus of 5.3. The same thing happened last year, and I managed to get it down to 4.3 by counting mgs, though I understand your point about differences in absorption. Am also trying to drink more water. Am concerned, though about whether I am getting enough protein, and also whether an est GFR of 76 is anything to worry about. My primary care physician left, so I am currently searching for a new one. Thanks again!

Here's another question to add to the pool :) What are ideal iron numbers from the the batch of iron tests? If a low normal iron test or slightly below normal, dr says the typical "don't worry about it". Would being in the middle of normal be better. How long does it take to bring up iron numbers? How will you feel from low iron? already take a over the counter iron pill 18 mcg, not enough. still low. Side effects of OTC iron pills and prescription iron pills? What other labs will change when getting a more ideal iron level? and maybe one related to iron or maybe seperate? Will raising my iron levels increase platelet count? Mine are around 100. How do I increase it to be more "normal"? I am on chlosteral meds, blood pressure meds, RX omega 3's, and baby aspirin. Have had a heart attack in the past and lots of plaque in my artery's. So it it better to have the low platelet count? Is that making my chances of having a heart attack less? Any way to find out whats causing platelets to be low? Does aspirin make it that low? The RX omega 3's didn't change the number. I tested both before nad after taking those.

Another Vote for a video segment discussing iron deficiency. My iron numbers are low too. I recently started cooking with iron pots hoping that an adequate amount of the iron would leach into the food. I am feeling better but have not had a followup lab test to confirm the numbers are better. I read that supplementing with iron tablets can be dangerous. I would like to hear what Dr. Hashmi recommends in his practice.

Milk and chocolate products are high in naturally occurring phosphorus. Many drinks are high in added phosphorus (like dark sodas, some bottled/canned teas). You'll want to check the label and look for any ingredient with "phos" in it. Phosphorus acid is a common one added to beverages.
