This whole video is peak “guy from Philadelphia” behavior. He invites his landlord to comment, his parents, he gives random strangers ukelele lessons to be petty, teaches his gf to play beverly hills (adorbs), dunkin donuts placement on point and to top it all off hes got a cousin named Mike. I would also wager a guess to say this man has ADHD from the way he makes his arguments, but his tangents always come to a cogent point if you give him time. This is the most Philadelphia man on the planet.

I don't loathe Train, in fact, I kind of like them. Bargain Basement Beato here might just be a tad jealous of Pat Monahan, who has an amazing voice, and the multiple Grammy awards and platinum albums that Train has produced in their career, one that largely come in an era where rock acts have had a very tough time of it. Maybe you want more hip hop or electronica bullshit, though.

Yeah this otherwise awesome video really has that secret banger in the back. I mean that is a COVER done RIGHT. No stripped down dude with guitar shit, no waily vocals, nothing fancy, just focus on a great groove and a simple vamp that both salutes the original and is its own great thing at the same time. Big props to Dr. Dog.

Soul Sister was extremely popular at the middle school I went to, to the extent that whenever the song came on, almost every girl in the room would start singing it in unison and with zero emotion whatsoever. This would happen every time, without fail, and consistently would continue for the entire duration of the song It's a memory that's consistently stuck with me and affected me as if it were a real-life Confusion spell, every so often I'll think about the sound of a room of tweenage girls singing Train and remember what hate feels like. What pure rage feels like.

I remember soul sister mainly because back in the day, it was used as the hung up tune for our cable operator service number... And our cable operator fucking sucked, it sucked so fucking bad we had to dial that number quite often because we kept losing signal. And they never got you less than 10 minutes on hold... Imagine. 10 minutes of "Hey soul sister" being heard through the scratchiest, most warbled, phone interference filter you can ever imagine. It made me LOATHE every time we lost signal on TV, because I just knew that as soon as I requested talking with a manager I would have to sit and listen to the whispers of the literal devil right in my ear for the next 10 to 15 minutes...

It boggles my mind that one person could fit so many brilliant ideas into a single video, with a 45 minute runtime that it somehow manages to be entertaining for every second of. I thought that I was the only one annoyed by the stupid looks on peoples thumbnails. I like Beato, used to really enjoy his channel but my interest has since Weaned. For whatever reason Rhet Shaul’s existence alone annoys me. Tried to give him a chance (first found out about him from Beatos’ channel) but something about him and his pleasure that he finds in the aroma of his own Flatulence annoys and rubs me the wrong way. Also the KZbin guitarists that strum a chord and swirl around the headstock in circular attempts of over portrayal of emotions. So exaggerated and it doesn’t feel genuine. I’m burned out on on guitar channels with the exception of my man Pat making me laugh and bring up sound points on why songs he selects stink. Love the mockery of all the big KZbinrs that I have grown tired of. Thank you Pat for helping to pull me out of this rut, been dark but I think I see a candle in the distance.

Hey Soul Sister represents everything shitty about life on this planet. It is the soundtrack to going to the dentist, talking to the receptionist at a car dealership, nervously waiting before your job interview at Target. Any time this song comes up on adult contemporary radio, I mistake the title for Sweet Soul Sister and say to myself, 'Did...did this station suddenly become cool?' The ukelele quickly dashes that hope.

Once upon a time, I got into a fight with an ex about the kinds of songs I was writing. She wanted me to write more "hooks", which isn't a horrible idea. But she doubled-down with examples, like: "Why can't you write something more like Hey Soul Sister?!" I was livid and deeply offended. And you, sir, have vindicated me. Thank you.

There's a Ukrainian band called 5'nizza, which is very well-known out here, they insert a lot of homages to classic songs, and I love them dearly. So they have a song called Ты кидал and it turns out there is an homage to Hot Stepper, and I didn't even know it for years, until this very video
