Thanks so much for this. I do have a couple of questions however. For the TSR-700 model (running a 5.1.2 layout with two subwoofers) Why does YPAO insist on setting the front left, right, and center channels to “Large”? If I subsequently change the setting to “Small” will this screw-up the calibration? Moreover, YPAO insists on setting certain crossover thresholds to 40Hz or 60Hz (depending on the speaker in question). Similarly, If I change the crossover settings to 80Hz will this adversely affect the calibration? In other words, YPAO is running a rather sophisticated algorithm and my concern is that by changing any of the settings YPAO ‘prefers’ I am creating a cascade/ripple effect that will throw-off the calibration of the WHOLE system. THANKS AGAIN!

Those algorithms just detect what your speakers are capable of. I always change right away to 'small' and 80hz despite the fact that i have huge tower speakers. If it was going to mess up the whole system they would give you a warning.

I've had a great experience with YPAO on my RX-A 3070. Excited to see what sort of difference Dirac makes, but no complaints about YPAO

I will say, my TSR-700 YPAO seems to have a lot more going on than my old RX-V2600 system. Plus I have done the multiple seating position calibrations and it seems to be way better than the single spot calibration. Still sees some of my speakers as large but I set them back to small because I have a sub and use the suggested crossover. I tweak the dialog up to 2 (we're old lol!) and I mess with toeing in or out my speakers due to a window wall but that's about it and I get great sound.

I just bought the A8A receiver, and looking forward to setting up my theatre as soon as my speakers arrive from Toby speakers in Fort Worth, Tx.

I just bought one too. And I'm also waiting on my speakers to arrive. I am building a 7.1.4 system in my living room. The LCR channels will be two Heco Aurora 1000 floor standers for the mains and a Heco Celan Revolution 4 for the center. The L&R surround will be Heco Aurora 300s and the rear surrounds will be Pioneer SBBS22LRs. The one sub will be a Powersound Audio TV2112M and the four Atmos channels will be ceiling mounted Klipsch CDT5800CII's. Eventually I'd like to add an external amplifier for the LCR channels. I'm hoping this Yamaha is the way to go. I heard the new Dennon 4800 is a good platform, same as the Marantz Cinema 50. They have the ability to shut down each channel of the amp. They also have four independent subs although I don't need that at this time. And they have Audyssey and eventually Drac. I heard YPAO is not nearly as good. I hope they are wrong. What is your experience of the matter and what kind of setup are you planning to run?

How important is the base post in the ypao calibration process ? I have lost mine ?

More details would have been great. I love my Yamaha. It allows me to change gains and Q factor for various frequencies each channel. Yamaha doesn't ever give me silent treatment like Onkyo and Denon from 10 years ago, so haven't had a need to upgrade. Hoping for more improvements in YPAO.

The is YPOA and YPAO, the YPAO 3D 64bit on my RX-A3080 is really good (especially adapting to volume and sensitivity. Entry level and older, not so much.

Very interesting that YPAO Volume actually takes Speaker efficiency into account. Audyssey doesn't really do that, it works strictly according to the settings of your Volume.

I wonder how detrimental it is to use a ypao mic vs a mic from someone else like pioneer. I am buying a used Yamaha w/ypao and I don't think they have the original mic that came with it. I was just planning on hooking up my pioneer mic and be done with it.

Each brand mic had its own characteristics and calibrated to suit that receiver.so mostly your measurement won't be accurate I beleive

Why YPAO?? Audyssey is just better. Anthem Room Correction better and Dirac best.

There are better things than Dirac;)

@@kaelmedia8693 speaking about mass produced audio products with room correction. There is always something better. Trinnov and Datasat have amazing room correction 😍 You get what you pay for. Yes I know Datasat uses Dirac Live. Since I know you are one of those smug guys who thinks he is smarter than everyone else.
