I have been receiving quite a few questions from some of you regarding what mod should you do first to your Toyota Tacoma overland build. Today I answer that question as well as compare what I think you should do to what I actually did myself. THEY ARE VERY DIFFERENT.
Today we are specifically talking about the first five modifications I recommend vs the first five modifications I actually did.

As always. KISS = keep it simple stupid. Good guidance video. You don’t have to go all out on the truck. Never get in debt just to try to impress someone else. Oh BTW I turned my pre runner into 4x4 in my garage with no crazy special tools or complicated fabrication with no ADD or TCS to worry about with a manual transfer case. I will be posting a couple of videos of the conversion process soon.

@@UrbanOpsOffRoad awesome. I've dabble with the idea of converting mine. It's a second gen. Not super handy with mechanical stuff, but I do change my own oil, spark plugs, alternators, but that's about it. I recently had a Detroit Truetrac installed in the rear, I can't wait to test it out. Hey everyone! So since I have been receiving this question a fair amount I thought it was worth a video. Just a reminder here though - I know i have said it before but i am just a guy that loves off roading, camping and making videos. I don't consider myself an expert at all. Everything i share here is just my opinion and i hope it helps! You can find more info about all the equipment i cover in the video description.

Great video. Actual reality (budgetwise). I love that you do this because I'm pretty much in the same boat w/you as far as disposable income. Pretty new at it as well & I have seen some of that negativity you speak of & it's just judgmental. Just because someone is new at something someone else has done for years doesn't mean they're stupid. I love it man. Spread that positivity. Also to the person that said (sorry, new at this as well), "You don't have to go all out on your truck just to impress someone else" 👍🏻🤘

Great mods, all around. Tires are definitely #1. It depends on what people want to do with their Tacoma's. You don't have to outfit it to the max. Whatever you like, just make it quality. I like the TRD springs and the Baja designs fog lights. So cool.

One of my favourite maintenance and appearance mods is Tremclad rust paint. I've used it under most of my vehicles since I was a teen. It can save your vehicle and drastically improve resale value. I've also done the the LED interior bulb change. That's the best mod I have done.

Good stuff, and it's funny I have falken wildpeaks on my Tacoma also, but a non matching spare as well 😂 I've thought about it often and been too lazy/not wanting to spend money to address it. I have a 2wd SR5 Tacoma. Sadly I don’t do much off roading due to my work schedule. But when I have time I like to go hiking and I like to go to national parks. I feel upgrading to 32” tires and getting a minor lift on my prerunner might be just enough for me, although I do wish I had 4x4 for that capability. Sadly, I can’t just sell my truck as I do not want to get into another 5 year financing contract, but it’s true what you said, as not spending too much money on a build that won’t be capable. So I’m keeping my stock wheels and getting bigger tires, I’m getting a 2” leveling kit and I’m getting some Baja design fog lights to get my by for my needs for now. Thank you for the advice👍
@alpinetactics
@alpinetactics 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah not everyone needs a 4x4 . I had had two different 2WD Tacomas prior to this one and they served me perfectly well just going regular old camping and to some national parks. Love the mods that you are considering for how you use your truck. 👏

Great options. First one I did for my 2.5 Gen Tacoma was a mirror riser. It’s my daily and that thing was in the way. Second tires, went to 32”. Working for an offroad company I see a lot of people just straight to suspension and tires as their first upgrade. While the suspension maybe helpful I’m just doing mine at 100k and it hasn’t stopped me from exploring or while at offroad parks. An huge thing for me was the fact there are no true recovery points up front on the Tacoma. Short of doing a front bumper or hidden recovery points, this is something else to consider from a safety point of view.
