That’s what teachers are supposed to do. Assess us and make a plan for what work is needed. Like a doctor. Students don’t know what they want all the time. They just want to sing better.

I had asked a former voice teacher for a realistic assessment of where we were and what we would work on. She was older, so I assumed that would be a concept she had used throughout her years, but she wasn't prepared to talk with me about this in a constructive way. I felt like I was always leading her, which was not a great dynamic for learning. Too bad that in smaller markets there are so few options for learning. Sometimes it's not for the student's willingness, but the capabilities of those in the teaching roles. (And YES! about the theory! Voice is real instrument, and it IS necessary to know some basic language about what you study.) I enjoy your videos very much--well rounded and informative!

There.s a saying ..sing with your heart in it..and everything without you knowing comes out of the mouth as sounds..that is music..the real art..😅

Wow I found this so helpful! I’m an older singer- I became a registered nurse. But I’ve sung with the Mastersingers of SW Florida for about 6 years and I’m now on my second vocal coach. My new coach is a German young lady who will be a leading lady in a opera in Athens soon- so I’m blessed. But I also love to follow all your videos. I've done my first 3 sessions in person with a vocal coach. And only 30 minutes each! I've progressed more than 6 months working every day by myself! She told me the most basics things I need to change or improve. I'm starting to get what support is.

I’m in my undergrad for piano performance and your videos help me I think a billion times more than other channels tbh though I’m sure there are great ones out there I think you have the best balance between recording quality and vocal coaching!!!!

I experienced this Too, i spent a Lot of money on coaches that were not really qualitfied. Often times they were just People who could sing but were not able to really teach me anything. I want to study music at uni, and i needed someone to help and prepare me for the audition....all said we help you, and in the end i wasted a whole year. They just did Not take my goal seriously. Frustrating experience.
