@@Twongz_does_anything it’s just a little older it’s most likely okay as long as it’s not very cheap. Rim breaks are okay and work almost as well as discs if you know not to break right, full steel isn’t the best for a frame tbh, 3x6 is perfectly fine as long as you make sure not to stretch the chain out too much (3x6 is again usually found on older bikes) and 26’ers are okay it’s just because 29’ers are the hot stuff rn.

Hardtail forces you to pay attention to the trail. Just personal preference, but mountain biking is about striking a balance between just all out thrashing it, and being precise. A hardtail gives me the inputs i need in order to best do that. The only time full suspension is needed is for huge drops.

What's the difference between an xc bike and a hardtail, it seems like an xc bike IS a hardtail as it has front suspension and is rigid at the rear? Also didn't they leave some category out here, like enduro bike?

After years on hardtail I finally switch to "dark side" and bought a full suspension bike. It's different but lots of fun (like always with bicycles). Got plans to try some trail riding in the mountains next year, visit local singletrack and I hope that 29er with 110 mm travel will be enough, at least to start this kind of riding. Great video, as always. Cheers guys!

I've found that the sweet spot for me is a technical trail bike like the Trek Fuel EX or Remedy. They can hit 90% of what you'd ever want to do except for the most extreme things that quite frankly I'll never do because I'll break before the bike will. I see you gents riding the Canyon quite a bit, which looks to be the same class as the Remedy; great choice!

I find it interesting that 20 or so years ago people were riding/thrashing the same type of trails and terrain with hardtails like nobody's business, but so many folks can't imagine doing so without an expensive full-suspension bike nowadays. My `97 GT Avalanche (owned since `99) never let me down in my younger years of thrash riding, and now I've outfitted it to be more of a XC cruiser that's still quite trail capable.

Recently I read on Bike magazine that Canyon are working on it. Canyon are smart and understand that the American consumer is more pampered and is a lot more demanding when it comes to customer service as opposed to Europeans for example. So they want to sell in America but they want to do it right. Hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later.

Yeah they are also a hell of a lot of fun. Also force you to be a better rider as you pick your line rather than pushing through it. It's the most flexible bike to have, because you can with practice ride really tough terrain, but also be able to enjoy the easy rides like a Sunday afternoon single track with the kids.

I think I made the right choice! Bought a Scott Scale 950 at the Toronto International bike show. It's a hardtail 29er packed with features, I've been fooling around in the snow and mud and having a sh*t-tonne of fun. It was between that and a cyclocross bike, and seriously, who wants to dismount everytime a climb gets gnarly? Not me! Besides I already have a road bike, now I have the best of both worlds!

Hey guys, I'm gonna start by saying I love your channel!! Is it wise for me to purchase a Trek Session DH bike, considering ive never ridden DH but at one point years ago I was sponsored for bmx racing, and a B class motocross racer. I have 2 bike resorts within 2 hours of my house, that are designed around DH riding, and a variety of trails all around me considering I live in the Smoky Mountain, TN area. I love speed and jumping, but is a DH bike versus a trail bike a good option for me? Thanks!
@gmbn
@gmbn 8 жыл бұрын
+Stealth FG2 Hi! Firstly Thanks! Really great to hear people like what we do! The Trek is a great bike, If you want to ONLY ride DH however I would recommend you try a decent spec 160mm trail bike too and consider that as if you were a decent BMX rider you will already have a lot of natural bike skill and confidence on the bike which is usually the thing that stops people using their trail bikes to their full advantage. My advice would be - unless your planning on racing, buy a Trail bike, it will make you a better rider and get you more time in the saddle overall. Hope this helps!

+DarkVortex CS:GO & More Slope Style is a type of dirt jumping, basically more extreme toward REALLY huge jumps, and extreme style performance in air. DJ and SS bikes are very alike, SS bikes are more extremely build to do air tricks, Stronger, heavier, almost unable to ride normally.

Wanted797 I have had my meniscus all but removed from my left knee after keyhole surgery (including cysts, satellite cysts, and added multiple micro fractures etc.) but I still ride a hard tail. My right knee also locks and is loose but if you use your body positioning properly it shouldn't be that bad unless you're riding high steep drops and massive jumps I suppose. Otherwise, bent knees, ratcheting and the ready position etc. etc. should get you through most trails, jumps, rock gardens etc. That said, it all depends on what problems you are having with your knees. Keep riding and I hope you get it sorted:-)

Enjoying the videos. I raced a lot during the 90's and have been out of the MTB world for the past 10 years. Great practical information on the technology and bikes of today. Any advice on evaluating used bikes like the '05 Specialized Stumpjumper?

You missed the rigid trials bikes.....sigh....the rigid minority overlooked again. Jk Good vid, but for real some of us ride fully rigid 26er trials.

Fatbikes will probably always be a fringe thing. They're fun for a try, but not to my taste. Plus they are just not nimble. Anything moderately technical, and they fall behind in a big way. I ride an aggressive geometry hardtail with 2.6 inch wide tires, and I find that to be a good balance of being nimble, but still being able to monster truck right over almost anything.

You obviously don't live in Minnesota where we've been riding fatbikes for years and will continue. Probably a fad in your neck of the woods.

I Like To Buy And Ride In A Full Suspension MTB. But I Don't Have That Much Money To Buy These High End Bikes. I Like 'SPECIALIZED', 'FRR', 'CANNONDALE', 'SANTA CRUZ', 'BANSHEE' etc. I Love To Ride These Bikes. So I Bought Hardtails. I Have 'KROSS MAXIMUS' 26Inch Wheels With 18 Speed Gears (3×6) Gear Combination (Shimano 'TOURNEY') & Front Disc Brake (Mechanical) , 'COSMIC TRIUM' 27.5Inch Wheels With 21 Speed Gears (3×7) Gear Combination ( Shimano 'ALTUS & ACERA') & Dual Disc Brakes (Mechanical) (Brand - 'Tectrodracko') , 'FITTRIP VIPER' 29Inch Wheels With 24 Speed Gears (3×8) Gear Combination (Shimano 'DEORE') & Dual Disc Brakes (Hydraulic)& Front Suspension Lockout & Weight Adjustment . These Are The Three Hardtail MTB I Have Now. From This Year I Started To Save Money To Buy A Full Suspension MTB With 'Dropper Post' Available & 'Suspension Lockouts' . So Thank You For Reviewing Me Some Latest Nice Bikes.🖒👍🚩❤😎😃🙄. Full Suspension Bikes Are Cool & Fun To Ride I Think .Talking About The Front Suspension "Air Suspension Is Better Than Coil Suspension" . That's For Sure. No Doubt.

I have a 26inch hard tail with fat high rolling tires and 100mm rock shock forks. Also have a 20inch bmx. I usually ride dirt jumps and skate parks on both. If I'm not riding park I'm up in the rocky mountains riding a mile or higher..

I feel like dirt jumping bikes between 2006-2009 were really great all around bikes. They had plenty of gears, geometry that was good for trail riding and decent for jumping, and strong enough parts for more aggressive riding. The 2007 kona shred is one of my favorite frames of all time.
