@@philippowell8273 Thank you! I don't think so but I think they should. The lifetime isa is a complete faff in terms of paperwork and I imagine it's a bit of a loss leader - because there's a small amount in they don't tend to make enough to deal with the paperwork. I think if one of the low cost providers absorbed the cost though - imagine having them all in one place would be huge.

Well done Chris and thanks for sharing the journey, I like how you prefer the ISA over pension as majority holdings im the same. You've some impressive numbers there for mid 30's well done. My advice regarding the house would be that should be your main objective this year as you can always return to investing. Theres gonna be some good buying opportunities. I'd look at getting a house thats seen better days but is liveable just lol, then add value doing up over the year. By 2025 interest rates will have gone down again and properties should gain nicely as a result. Have a revaluation then pull out the equity and re-invest in another property BTL purely on interest only and re-invest those gains into your ISA. Warning you may find it addictive. Im in same situation, got 34K to side ready for 1 more BTL in the ltd company but its so tempting to use up rest of this and next years ISA allowance. Id get some property if you can as a portfolio diversifier and use leverage carefully. Best of luck.

Hi @chrispalmer24, on the point about adding more being important, do you know of any way we can get our current pension into our main combined pension? It seems silly to me that we have to start at £0 with every new job because by our employer not paying into our combined pension every month and that money instead going into a pot with nothing in it, we’re missing out on returns. Do you know of any way we can keep our workplace pension open but transfer the money from it into our personal pension every month? Thanks.

Do you Bed&ISA each year? When do you do it (start of tax year or end when you can decide to sell losses and gains in GIA and buy different shares in ISA to allow for minimum CG tax)? Also would be nice to see an experiment of two accounts - A - buy £x shares (global index ETF?) every month, B - save £x into savings account but buy same shares with it only when you think price is lowest - e.g. 4 buys a year or so. Over 5 years - which performs best?
@rudolphteperberry3888
@rudolphteperberry3888 5 ай бұрын
NFA😅! I bed & isa on years when I haven't yet reached ISA allowance. Do it BEFORE end of tax year otherwise you're just using up next years allowances. Also do it towards the end of the tax year because if you do it too early you might find yourself with spare cash to invest later in the year but you've already used your allowances up (so you could still invent it in a GIA but the fees and faffing of the bed & ISA would be for nothing!). But don't do it right on the very last day because sometimes it takes a while for deals to be finalised. Personally I also only do it for maximum capital gains allowance. If I'd be taxed on the sale I'll just keep it in GIA and worry about it later! My GIA only exists from years in the pat when I used up my ISA allowance but still had more cash to invest. My situation means that won't be happening in the coming years so I'll take the opportunity to bed & ISA every year.

Also you have an amazing gift,from the good Lord,because you keep my attention which is hard to keep. And congrats on how you’ve built your finances. God bless. Ps keep doing the Match betting. I’ve not done that great personally and have given it a break during the Christmas season and start of the new year but will resume with slightly different tactic’s when I resume. (try the accumulator’s ie 3 matches with stake of say £32,would bring in if won £250 plus). Even a 6 or 7 match accumulator with stake of £3 can bring in £350,though of course one loss and that’s it. But you certainly seem to know what your do with Stock’s and Share’s which I need to start doing more in this area. I think I’ve mentioned this before maybe write a short booklet for beginner’s like me!

Is it wise to consolidate even if it saves you a few $? If the chosen company gets into trouble, although your cash and investments are safe and protected, it will take a while (maybe up to a year) to sort out. Meanwhile those investments may be inaccessible to you. I would argue it would be better to split your ISAs, GIAs, SIPPs etc. across multiple platforms for this reason (and also it is more informative for you and us).

A friend of mine has done quite well doing AirBnB - I think that's quite a good option. From everything I've looked in to with Property now you need to be quite "creative" and look for quite "motivated" sellers, or desperate people which I don't love. A few family friends I know who have had 10+ properties who bought at very good times have been selling up. I think my main concerns has always been how much rights people have, or their ability to squat (horror stories I know) but know a few who have had major issues. On both sides renting and owning. The other concern would be the pressure on the government to "abolish landlords" which I 50/50 agree with - very interesting debate. I wish I'd bought a few properties when I first started I think could have done pretty well. But not sure how good it is now, I think you'd have to work pretty hard to just beat what you could get in the stock market. Couple that in with factoring in your time which could be spent elsewhere - I think it could be quite hard work. With that being said I still love the idea of owning an Airbnb etc one day, or renting one out - just not sure where it fits in to my plans. Could be an interesting way to diversify? Have you tried it?

What's more impressive I think is regular investing has been made free rather than £1.50 - so £11.95 to buy an ETF once, direct debit in for free then £11.95 to sell (plus the £3.75) - I do think it's a bit more complicated than it needs to be 😂

I'm not getting why you are not maxing out your ISA allowance each year I get it if you don't have the money then obviously you put in what you can afford but at the moment you appear to have the funds. If I had disposable money sitting somewhere and I didn't use my full ISA allowance I would make myself stand in the corner with a dunce hat on. With previous generous tax allowances on dividends and capital gains now being eroded it is even more important to have your portfolio inside an ISA which as you know essentially makes capital gains and dividends tax-free. I feel your pain with the Russian ETF at one point I had 7.5k in Cineworld. I never thought something so big could go down the tubes.
@chrispalmer24

I have actually maxed my ISA pretty much every year. I think I've probably missed 1/2 years in 16. I haven't done it yet this year just because I'm getting 5% on the cash and need it short term. I am thinking about doing it anyway though in a few months, maybe even sooner since I'm near the tax on interest allowance. I have been prioritizing the pension more though as I feel it should be larger than my ISA. Ouch sorry to hear about Cineworld! We definitely live and learn 😅

Pretty sure you just can't really invest in them right now, also...why would you want to invest in companies that are both directly and indirectly funding the ward on Ukraine?

@@davidjones4130 100% mate, I can't argue with you there. But seeking to directly capitalise on it, I'm not so sure. Just think there are better options.

No worries! Freetrade is a left over one had my Russian holding moved there, the other WeBull one I use just for analysis and Trading212 is just a fun one as I already have ISA's elsewhere

you always talk about loosing the Data, why not import all the Data into ‚Portfolio Performance‘ !? After that you are free to move around as you want !

SIPP at Vanguard - they offer two options 'do it yourself' and 'we do it for you' - the one you own is 'do it yourself'? so you chose your index funds yourself? I'm new to investment and trying to understand differences ... thanks

How was the process of transferring your Freetrade ISA to Invest Engine? How long did it take? Did you have to sell your shares first? Did you feel you lost on some earning while moving?

Really simple to be honest, took a few weeks as it always tends to, I sold everything to move - I was switching from stocks to ETFs anyway which helped. I actually did better because the market dropped in the time I moved, but the market had been flat for quite some time. I wouldn't worry about it too much, if anything I think it's probably a slightly better time now as everything is up.
