Thought I'd add a bit- might help someone else out there avoid my mistakes. Cancer at 22. Straight back to work because hey I just wanted to be normal. Teaching difficult kids. Loved it. Hated it. Always tired. Diagnosed with ME. Took another 28 years of teaching and being knackered before I collapsed one day. Lost a lot of my life didn't I? Tried 'playing hard' , too! In my head that compensated for being ill! Made me far worse. More info out there now- thanks to people like this guy. Use the info and get well.

thanks so much shirley for the comment. By pushing ourselves we just make the problem last longer than it normally would! But cancer at 22... so sorry that happened! i pinned your comment so people can see

Shirley Freeman I did same thing to myself. I do believe much of this behavior was due to the total lack of information and understanding then. At least now we can connect with others and know and accept that our experience is "real" and that we should treat ourselves better. That we deserve better.

i just gotta point out how you're looking incredibly younger compared to your past videos which indicates how our bodies really heal themselves given the proper care

I was doing exactly the same thing, I thought if I was laying down that was resting. I used to have the PC or TV on more than 12 hours a day and stay up late cause I couldn't sleep. You and Shawn's book (Sleep Smarter) have helped me tremendously. I go to bed by 9pm now and am sleeping much better (not like I used to pre-illness yet, but it's much better) and I limit my computer/TV/phone time to less than 2 hours a day now & some days nothing at all. I can tell a big difference already! Another great video, thanks!

I need to share this with everyone I know because this wisdom is key to a good life whether you are sick or well, young or old. How are we using our time people? I am 59 years old waiting for life to get better! This is not a dress rehearsal. Can't go back. But who would want to, it has been an entire life of coping not living. Lyme has been my big wake up call. Thank you for your messages. They are deep down good for me.

I agree it's very important to learn to be okay bored. Technology is a double edged sword, can be really helpful but also really damaging. I eat whenever I need to, but I intermittent fast my tech usage. No tech before 1pm, no tech after 5pm, so 4 hours of tech a day to help the day pass and get some enjoyment, and then 20 hours of rest!

Did you ever experience insatiable hunger during recovery? It feels like my stomach is full but I still want food. Kind of a mental hunger I guess. I tried tracking my calories to make sure I'm eating enough and I really am. I eat over 4000 calories some days and still feel hungry. My diet is a typical plant-based diet: no oil, dairy, eggs, gluten, animal products, etc. Most of my calories come from starch like potatoes, sweet potatoes, oats, rice, beans, fruit, a lot of other veggies, a little nuts and seeds.

yes it's why I gained a lot of weight. Listen to your body. add more fats maybe? I believe it was neccessary for my recovery and to get myself moving again. It also gave me the ability to deal with my problems. running on low fuel makes everything so much harder...

Do you have any tips for studying. Studying takes a lot of energy out of you when you have cfs. Is there a way to study longer without using so much energy. Thanks in advance.

I have watched now some of your videos. I have ME and really hard sleeping problems. I got ME around the time I was 10, so about 14 years ago, the end crash point was 3 years ago. I used all the energy I had to push trough the days and only to hear from everyone that I am lazy, even when I did try to live a normal life. Now there is no energy left and I'm really really sick. Now this video made me think. I find it hard to not have any stimulating things to do. Becouse I don't belive in meditation and stuff like that. I have tried, but the science side in my brain kicks in. And when I have tried to just lay still and rest, after 12h it is about to drive me mad. So how do you like shut of your brain when meditation or mindfullness just doesn't work? And I do not have the attitude that "boohoo this will never end". I just can't get my brain to understand any type of meditation or it to stop thinking. How do one cope with all the pain when you shouldn't stimulate the brain to get something else to think about when the pain is at its worst?

you don't neccessarily have to do the traditional, sit in quiet meditation. Try EFT, that's what i did! give it a go.

you have no option but to deal with the pain, focus on doing things that will help take the pain away. lifestyle changes, epson salt/clay baths, dietary changes, making sure you're hydrated etc

were you ever at the point in your illness where you were too sick to play PC games? I used to consider days when I could sit at the PC "good" days before I cut out games, but even still there are many times where I felt all I could do was lie in bed. If you were ever in that situation during your illness how did you deal with it? Thanks.

yeah plenty of times, especially when i had severe fibro pains. I just rested (even before i commited to changing my ways) because there was no other choice. the pain forced me to rest
