I have two greatest of all time starting five teams. Penny Hardaway is my first team and that's because I grew up an Isaiah Thomas fan. However when Penny came into the league I was an instant fan. I truly enjoyed the battles he had with MJ. Especially when Penny and Shaq sent MJ home to go to the finals. It's totally disgusting how the NBA has yet to induct Penny into the Hall of Fame. Without Penny Hardaway the Orlando Magic don't make it to the finals that season. Even with a young dominant Shaq Orlando don't get past MJ without Penny. He's one of the few guards MJ couldn't contain or stop from getting 25 or 30 no matter where they played. Go back and watch the highlights of Penny vs MJ. Penny was dominant from the beginning. He didn't have to come off the bench like Kobe. He was an immediate impact for Orlando on the entire NBA.

I am from Memphis and Penny got shot in one of his feet when someone robbed a Convenience Store that Penny unfortunately was in. He was a Senior in High School if I remember correctly. I believe that is what caused his career to end way before his time. Most people don't know about that unfortunate incident.

I grew up in the Walnut Grove Area and went to Braircrest. I remember the News Report when they said Penny got shot in one of his feet. I believe that is what caused his Pro Career to be cut way to short. Two of the Greats that unfortunately had short NBA careers are Larry Bird and Penny.

The 2 series between the Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic in 1995 and 1996 were classics. The 1995 Orlando Magic were the reason the Chicago Bulls started Ron Harper (6-6) with Michael Jordan (6-6) to matchup with Orlando's tall guards Penny Hardaway (6-7) and Nick Anderson (6-6). That's how good the Orlando Magic were back in the mid 90's. I really miss that era!

Harp wasn't really a point guard and didnt bring the ball up a lot (scottie/toni/mike) but he was a good defender and knew how to run the triangle. @@nationalchampions Born in 83' and typing this from my balcony overlooking the city a block from the lake. Ron Harper started for nearly two years on the Bulls 94 and 95. Yes you are correct he came off the bench for the 17 or so games that Jordan came back to end the 95 season and the all of the playoffs. He then went on to start for the next 3 championship runs after B.J. got picked in the expansion draft by the Raptors (Bulls never traded him). And penny wasn't abusing Steve Kerr and B.J. They were never primarily responsible for Penny on defense. Watch the games again. He was giving buckets to Michael and Scottie in 95'. And then again in 96' even tho they got swept. Ron Harper never started in the 95' series against the Magic. They never attempted to "matchup" with the taller Magic backcourt. Him being inserted in the lineup in 96' was becuase B.J was gone and he complimented Michael and Scottie on defense. Had nothing to do with matchups for one team. People forget Harp was a dog (20 and 5) in LA just before he got hurt. He wasn't a bum.

Penny was not as explosive as Kobe, the difference between the 2 is Kobe had that killer instinct and penny didn't. That Lakers team was stacked and there's no way the bulls would've swept that team. Funny thing is he was born in Brooklyn new york but he was a mega orlando magic fan. loved penny&shaq. his 360 stop, jump and shoot was so unique... yet that's why you stay in school, the physics of how that blasts your knees shifting momentum on that structure of body puts insurmountable stress on those knees... his injuries were predictable. if he stayed in school and really learned the math behind his craft, he would be playing 15+ years and be a top 25-50 all time. This guy came guns blazing as a rookie and would learn to elevate his game. He was just too good and too athletic. and man o man i miss lil penny.

People dont realize the talent that was coming through Orlando and the dynasty they could have created if the Orlando Magic Organization didnt eff things up. Of course there are sliding doors moments and some of the decisions wouldn't have gotten made, but they had all the pieces. They had shaq, penny, Horace, Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady all within a few short years of each other. Now imagine if they got it totally right. Those first years of Penny have been a game changer! Anfernee Hardaway was the beginning of a new generation which was to come with Kobe. A lot of future stars admired young Penny! Shaq's story is sweet and on point! He just wasn't the same after an injury in his 4th or 5th season. When he got to Phoenix, he already lost his magic. Yes, he carried the Magic without Shaq and got traded to Phoenix with some promise, but already then he wasn't the same. To me, Penny was the best player of the world in his second and third season, I was lit up! I loved his ball handling, movement, vision, everything! But you can't give him a place in the Hall of Fame for this. The Hall of Fame has no place for "if only he didn't got injured". It is what it is. Penny has something much more worthful! Penny has the experience of what he has done. And he has certainly lit up the NBA when he stepped up. He was All Star, Dream Team II, Finalist, Nike Shoes And the best of it: he knows the feeling of facing Michael Jordan eye to eye, chances equal!

Brilliant video BTM. I know i am late too the party here lol but Penny alongwith Derrick Rose are two of my Fave Players too Watch and both of those Careers hampered by Injuries, is just criminal guys both unbelievable Basketball Players no question about it.

I loved Penny Hardaway. He was the missing ingredient in Orlando after Shaquille O’Neal got there. His play making abilities and athleticism were exciting to watch. I cherish those memories.

Anfernee Hardaway is my ALL TIME Favorite Player!!! I'm from Chicago and I like Penny more than Michael Jordan. I have little more than 10 basketball cards including his Rookie Card and I hope I get an autograph of Penny Hardaway on that Basketball Cards before I die. I bought a DVD "Blue Chips" and watched over 100times

Penny needs to be in the HOF! He re-evolved the point guard position. If u really look at it, he was the perfect PG bc he can do it all. We also forget about his defense. Phenomenal player, really enjoyed watching him when I was a kid.

I grew in orlando. Born and raised here. Penny was my idol. Like seriously. I studied his game relentlessly. There's not a video on KZbin of penny highlights that i havent seen. So its ironic that robert horry threw out the lamelo ball name as comparison because i didnt follow lamelo youth playing ball but took notice of his game when he got to the NBA and to me its the closes resemblance to a penny hardaway type game that ive seen. Their games are obviously different but when melo pushed the ball in the open court, fast breaks is when i see shades of penny's game the most. And also he confidence and swag was similar to penny when he was first coming out as well.

His first year with PHX Jason kidd got hurt weeks before playoffs and beat defending champ spurs when Duncan hurt his knee. Plus when he went to the Knicks he had some clutch moments that helped them to playoff when Steph got traded

John Stock is my fav player all time. Why am i saying this ? Because if there were no JS, maybe my fav would have been Penny ! WOW remembr his plays... so wonderful ! As Reggie Miller said it Penny was diamond in the 90's. Such a shame he got injuried. The only time i loved Shaq's team was with Penny ! This guy was pure magic. Why the hell did u get hurt ????! Penny injury is the most terrible injury in NBA history because it wasted a HOF career in his prime.

Penny was my fav player after MJ! I couldn’t believe when he got hurt he never recovered! He was the face of the league when MJ retired! Played and lead the last team to Beat MJ’s Bulls in the playoffs! Put Chris Rock on before he was Chris Rock as the voice of Lil Penny! Idk if anyone other than Jordan has a signature shoe that sales more then Penny and for a player with a super short prime like this is pretty wild! He was a 6’7 playing pg kinda like Magic/Bron hybrid! He could score at will at anytime and get to any spot at anytime and pass like I’ve never seen! He was the first what if to me… had he never got hurt NBA history would be different fasho! Salute Penny!
