We became retired Aussie grey nomads when covid hit and I could no longer travel abroad to work on projects. We spend at least 6 months each year on the road with our caravan. I think one of the reasons that Aussies will stop and help you out particuarly in remote and rural areas is because one day it might actually be them that needs a hand. A lot of times when driving people passing you in the opposite direction will aknowledge you with a hand signal just to say hello and that everything is ok. More and more Australians began doing the same as us when the overseas travel restrictions were in force. The other thing that has changed since covid is how many younger families like this one are also doing the nomadic thing. We keep our house in Lake Macquarie and as nice as it is at home we are most comfortable when we are on the road particualy in the outback. You guys will love the west coast once you get over that way you never know maybe one day we will cross paths with you. By the way invest in an anti flapper kit they will stop the awning from flapping and make it more stable in a wind but you also essential to put the spring loaded guy ropes on the corners of your awning and connect them to a stainless steel bracket that clips over the barrel at each end of the roller - all available at any caravan/camping shop...

We finally got our visas approved and my husband flew to Australia last week. So far the only negative is that it has been raining since he arrived and that he left his swimming shorts back home. I can't wait to join him and see what wonders Australia has to offer.

there is a lot of chans of uk and murican tourists doing this atm. I reckon its a great thing. the 2 or 4 week slam visits dont get to see the real aus. they have either rented or bought a van/camper and taking their time. as some one who has been around aus twice with my van, theres still a ton i missed to see.
