I think you're onto something about the smaller megapixel sensor with a 16X9 format. However, we might not get the 16X9 format if vertical formats are popular. Eventually, people will regret ever shooting in vertical format when mobile devices move to either virtual reality, hologram or projection that matches the format we naturally see in (unless we evolve to where our eyes are stacked vertically).

I've been transferring some HDV tapes shot on my old Canon Vixia HV30. I like the zoom capabilities and the resolution isn't that bad for its age. The downside is transferring it into the computer for editing. No drag and drop in that system, but the images were precious movies of my dogs, now deceased.

Back in the good ol' days, photographers would buy their lifetime camera (a hasselblad and/or a mamiya and maybe rollei). From that point we'd buy lenses for use-case (portrait, candid, group photos, landscape, macro for products). This all ended when digital came along. Digital was great except you could never get 100% of when you need except MORE --- more is all you need.

I'm flying to Finland tomorrow and was watching some of last year's videos shot by my cousin's kids. It's 1080p on the original Sony RX-100 they borrowed from me. It looks great, the only thing that looks weird to me is the 50FPS. I'm debating if I should even bring my a7s III. I'm barely bringing any luggage. It would be so light with just that RX in my pocket. I know I'll be dragging everything from 35mm to 200-600mm with me come morning.

I was watching my old DV tape footage out of the VX2100 and DVX100B, and something about that image seems better (at times) than my Sony FX3 and FX6. There’s some sort of magic in those old cameras that they just don’t make anymore.
@billmakesmovies Жыл бұрын
@@jimthrowaway I once shot a 40 minute short on an XH-A1 with the Letus adapter. Those were weird times! Camcorders hold a special place in my heart still. Wishing Canon would stick a good 4K sensor in the XF205 body so I can justify buying one again. Don’t need one bad enough to spend $4500 on an XF605, and they ruined that camera for me anyway by not including the rotating handgrip. I would buy a 4K XF205 body day one, and drag it around with me everywhere and document all the things like I did with my DV cameras, and the XF100 that I had for many years. I know they have the XF75, but I think it’s weird. I also think we’re due to see Sony update their prosumer camcorder lineup, so maybe they’ll hit the nail on the head with their next attempt. I really want to have IR capabilities back in my life again too!
@johnfirewire Жыл бұрын
I started out with a DCR-VX1000. Those camcorders had 3 sensors/chips. One for red, one for green, and one for blue. Back then they talked about how that was superior to having all color sampling on a single sensor. Maybe there was something to that

@jimthrowaway if I remember correctly going to CMOS was an effort to cut costs and going back to one large sensor from 3 smaller sensors was also a way to cut costs without sacrificing pixel count. There are definitely some gems in the old gear we used to use. I never like it when people dismiss things as being outdated. A perfect example is the mentality that a great video game from 20 years ago is now terrible because video games are more advanced now. No, it's not terrible. You should still be able to appreciate it's greatness

@@briandipierro8865Yeap that's even better than the 24-240mm RF from canon. Indeed it's incredibly versatile and can do almost anything. I wasn't expecting it to be good for filming though. you know MFT was the perfect form factor for Video. You could get a 16-20MP sensor for good dynamic range. Small enough that the IS was out of this world. I wish Panasonic would put out a successor to the G9 with Dual Pixel AF. That would be about the perfect EDC Camera. But outside of EDC Camera, I'm sure you have learned by now, that the perfect camera depends on your use case. There is no 1 perfect depending on use, right? Perfect landscape camera isn't the perfect video camera, vs Sports or wildlife photography etc.

I’ll take the C70 as a webcam even further, my C70 sits in a dedicated teleprompter style box with beamsplitter glass to mirror an entire 24 inch monitor (invert the monitor image with a Decimator MD-HX to get a proper image that I see from beamsplitter) and then put my meetings on that monitor. I’m looking at the meeting, and they see me looking directly at them, not like 98% of other folks in online meeting where we’re either looking up their nostrils or at the sides of their face…

When I was younger, I couldn't picture myself as a serious photographer, but now I am putting serious effort into developing that ability. I think it was because I wasn't in the right frame of mind and maybe had problems with discovering what material I wanted to photograph, it turned out the food stuffs like bread and other baked goods were just to grainy for my taste. An art teacher, Gary Low, told me I had problems focusing and that if I kept on flashing in public I would end up in jail. I changed my ways but still, as I am out in public, I often have to resist the urge to burst.

I don't know why anyone spends triple digits on old compact point-and-shoots unless they're the ones with the 20x-40x optical superzooms. Any time I want a new-to-me old point-and-shoot camera, I just go to a Value Village thrift store, spend $10 Canadian on the camera and then spend another $15 Canadian or so getting a battery and charger from Amazon. I know I'm rolling the dice with any Value Village camera considering they're not even guaranteed to work but I've only been disappointed once and it was with a basically toy-type camera that I got in a bag in the toy section for only around $2 anyway.
