As many middle aged golf nuts, I've watched many videos from different 'tubers'. But none IMHO really discuss course management - it's all about golf equipment or swing mechanics. When in fact what you show us is how to think about the course, see the opportunities and understand your best approach is the way to improve your score better. You've helped me think deeply and properly about my game and how to use my modest skills to improve my scores and enjoyment of golf. Thank you. Keep up the excellent content. And I tell all my friends to watch you.

These videos are golden. Your swing and feels will come and go. You need to make sure you’re adapting your strategy along the way, otherwise you’ll keep expecting yourself to do shot’s you simply can’t do. Eradicating unnecessary errors are the fastest way to get better at golf.

After seeing this video, my 60 degree wedge hasn't been in my bag. I chip/pitch now primarily with 56, 52, PW, 9, and 8 iron and my duffs have all but disappeared. (I will still occasionally duff a short side uphill chip.) But it's funny to watch the group of seniors I play with (55-80 plus years old) pull out their lob wedges and either teeth one across the green or sod one 3 feet. Probably one of the best things I've learned from Matty Boom Boom was to ditch the 60. Also - thanks to the number one Lithuanian golf youtuber, I've broken 100 using his methods from his "Break 100 150 yards or less" video and Break 90 170 yards or less." I probably watch both videos 3 or 4 times a week.

Most of the time, I don't worry about the score. I just play what I envision to be the best shots and take the bogeys and double bogeys, even triple bogeys as they come. This gives me many insights on what to do and not to do. Over time, my scores got better, my techniques got better. I also play more on Pitch & Putt courses to improve the short game. I feel the driving range is only good for warming up, correcting flaws and fine tuning. Then again, hitting off a mat is not realistic. No sure if any of you do the same thing.

5:39 One thing I disagree with is not using the 60. 2x a week, practice chipping into a bucket in the backyard for 30 minutes after work, and I think the average bear can develop touch. It’s become my comfort club around the green! Same concept applies for reading like a putt- I just imagine my aim point is that bucket from the backyard and I’m golden. Thank you for your content, man! You have radically improved how I think and play the game. In my second year of golf now and I’m consistently shooting mid 80’s. I cannot thank you enough.

If you struggle with long irons...take a 3 iron only to the range and learn to hit it. All the other irons will feel like wedges! In my youth I struggled to hit anything longer than a 7 iron. In my case I grabbed a 2 iron and hit it until I could draw or fade with it at will...now the longer irons are my favorite clubs. Try it.

@@GolfSidekick, it's simple enough that even I can do it. For chipping: 3 Releases (#1 - toe-down bump & run, #2 - Standard, & #3 - Lob {but only for those who have MASTERED #1 & #2). For Pitching: 3 stance widths (1, 2, or 3 club heads apart), choose bump-&-run or standard release based on preference and let foot spacing determine the length of back swing. No more clock-position. Just use the same swing w/ SW, GW, PW, & 9I to cover 30-100 yards... It's almost like there is a BAUSE in SE Asia giving out this free advice...

Your "easy chip" just about made me fall off my chair... I do love this approach and need to do it more. I usually think backwards form the green while at the tee, but have been focusing on distances to break up the hole, but not about the possible misses along the way! It should be a simple addition to my course management thinking, just a few more seconds might make a huge difference.

This approach of always planning, selecting shots, taking what the course presents keeps you engaged all the way through. Then golf is a true break away from everything else, good or not so good.
