In this bonus episode, we discuss sailing the south coast of England. The cruising lifestyle, marinas, moorings and anchorages. The people, the walks and most importantly... the fish and chips.
From somewhere in the Bristol Channel, we go over our adventure so far and reflect on where we've been and what we've done. Starting in Eastbourne, Sovereign Harbour, and sailing via Brighton, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Studland Bay, Portland, Weymouth, Brixham, Salcombe, Fowey, Falmouth, Mullion Cove and Padstow.
We've sailed with dolphins and passed some notorious headlands such as Portland Bill, Lizard Point, St Alban's Head, and Lands End.

Glad to hear you enjoyed most of your time in the South West, it is a stunning place for day sailing and port hopping. Surprised you didn't consider the Scylly isles given the forcast you had at the time. Worth a visit next time you stretch your Sea legs, you wont regret it. Love the videos and your sense of humour, watched all the videos today, its inspired me to go sailing tomorrow😊 Fair Winds.

Thank you Paul! We had considered the Scillies but we didn’t feel confident enough for the passage at the time and we worried about getting back north given the bloody northerlies 😂 it does look like a beautiful place though, so I’m sure we’ll get there one day. Thank you for the feedback, it means a lot to us! And I hope you have a brilliant sail tomorrow - everything is better after a day on the sea 👌

Glad to hear you calmed down and learnt to go with the flow after your initial manic start. I am about to sail our first ever passage from the East Coast to Chichester in a boat we bought during the winter and which I have spent the past 7 months making seaworthy again after 5 years of neglect. My head is exploding trying to cover everything (which no doubt I won't) Every day I think of something new I need to sort out so Im just hoping that once we set sail, things will begin to fall into place.

Wow, congratulations on the purchase and refit! I bet you have a fab appreciation of her nooks and crannies after such a project! Many boat owners lament about the constant things that break and subsequent repairs. They're not lying! Best of luck on the first passage, what a momentous occasion!

@@sailinghjem Crapping myself really, some years since I sailed and there is so much to try and remember, beside she is bigger than anything else I ever sailed before and with roller reefing Genoa and Main, all new to me. My previous experience was when Ugg and I noticed those big wooden things that grow in the forest, if they fell in the water, they actually floated, so we sat astride it and drifted down the river. The rest of the tribe thought we had been taken by the water Gods. We were quite pleased with ourselves though because we had invented messing about in boats without realising it.

@@Mikeandlucy1 that’s probably how it started for our ancestors I reckon! I can totally appreciate where you’re coming from. It’s a big thing going to sea and feeling responsible; less so for your own safety as weird as that sounds, but absolutely for the safety of others. And yes, there is a huge amount to remember and even more to learn, but as you get out of the comfort zone and into the reality of the dream you’ve chosen to pursue, it’ll all come back to you and the new skills will stick and fill you with more confidence. As with so many other things in life, we have found that with the right mindset, you’re a good way there. It sounds as though your mindset is where it should be. Buoyed by the skills and experience that you already have, with a healthy respect for the gaps you will fill as you go. Happy sailing!
