I went to norway this summer (I'm from the Netherlands) and I can agree with you on the chocolate! My friend (who lived most of her childhood in Norway) jokingly said that it's their "country's pride" 😅 What I found especially interesting is that essentially all shops had large letters on the building saying, for example, "8-22", showing you when the store's open. Very handy!

Ik ben Nederlands en Noors en het is zo’n onzin hahaha. Noorse chocolade is echt enorm zoet en romig, wat heel lekker is, maar het is meer snoep dan chocola als je snapt wat ik bedoel.

@@ava4689 It's everywhere around the world, not due to the great flavor and taste of it (no, definitely not that) but because of heavy marketing. Mexico has much better beers to offer, too bad they're mostly only famous for Corona

Corona was bought by Budweiser a couple of decades ago; that’s why that beer is so prevalent on the world scene now. Budweiser actually owns a lot of different breweries/beer companies.

Just found you two & I’m in love with your energy. I lived Bergen for 5.5 yrs, and had my second child there. You both remind me so much of my Norwegian friends & it both makes me miss them loads, and feel like they’re right in front of me at the same time. I frequent a chatroom, have done for a decade. It's very multicultural so I've got to chat and kinda get to know people from all over, and my favourite thing is when they take their cam with them so we can see what it's like where they live. I'm Australian so people are always hoping I'll be able to show them a kangaroo, lol. It's fun. So thanks for this :)

My family is very Norwegian American (great grandma and her twin brother immigrated to America as kids/orphans) and there’s so many delicious things I miss since getting diagnosed with celiac disease over a decade ago 😢 I just want all the lefse ;-;

I import that chocolate every year for Christmas to put it in my mom’s stocking. Her grandfather was from Norway, and we were able to visit when I was 17. Beautiful country with beautiful people. That little bit of chocolate brings her right back❤

I love this! And wow norwegians really love their sodas and candy 👀 I live in Luxemburg and our stores are like 25% alcohol (hard stuff) 25% dairy, 25% meats and the rest is everything else, we're basically alcoholics with insane cholesterol levels 😂

My brain went to oh Safeway wait no Costco a candy store? Ok so it's an everything store. lol it looked like Safeway but then they showed someone giving them samples like Costco and then they showed pick and mix which I don't really know what that is buy it looked like a mix of different candies so like a candy store. That's what I got from all of this also I'm from the US. too 🙂

Thank you for this! It's actually one of my favorite things to do as well, because it feels like a glimpse into the habits of locals. And then in other countries you realize that supermarkets aren't even their normal way to go shopping. 😅🎉

I’m from England, but my grandad was Norwegian and my aunt moved out there like 13 years ago. Every time she comes back for a visit she brings Freia chocolate and I absolutely love it :’) I have very vivid memories of tante Elise and onkle Kora (actually great aunt and uncle) coming over for the first time and bringing loads of smil for me and my siblings to share :’)

I live in Sweden now which is obviously more or less like Norway. The only thing I miss about Romania is being able to go down to the corner store and pick up a huge bottle of absolute vodka when I forgot that guests were coming over 😆

I completely agree Julie. I love going to farmers markets, food shops and pubs when I travel. I have found some of my favorite foods by doing this and I have a deep and abiding love for Swiss, Dutch and German chocolates but for different reasons (German Chocolate is best for baking but Swiss chocolate is best for Fondue and Dutch chocolate is good for anytime of the day 😉). I also love pastries of just about any kind so you can always find me at a bakery as well when I travel.

It’s just sweets (candy) and chocolate. You grab a bag or box. Then choose whatever you want. So you don’t have to buy a big bag of one type of sweet, but can get all types of different ones in the same bag

⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠@@octoberrose243It’s a staple in a lot of European countries! The UK has it everywhere too :) especially in places like cinemas. A lot of them are priced on either cup-size/box (never heard of a bag here honestly, it’s usually tall boxes or soda cups of different sizes) or priced by the weight.

I was in Zimbabwe years ago and was shocked at how delicious and creamy their chocolate was! I realized then how many fillers and waxes were used in USA chocolate!

Same! I love seeing the everyday life things when travelling. I don’t have time to sit by a pool/ocean, take me to the nearest grocery store and gas station please, I want to compare to home and find new things! ^^
