I'd say there was a HUGE difference in the Norwegian spoken in just this video. Some almost sounded like Danish people trying to speak Norwegian, whereas others sounded more like Swedes trying to speak Norwegian. The former being much easier to understand for a Dane of course. Southern Norway and Denmark seem to be closer and Norwegians feel more connected to Sweden the further North you get. All the way at the top I would guess they think of Finns as their best buddies. Norway is a LONG fucking country. lol

Dane here✋ I work with Norwegians and speak with them daily. For me it is key importance that we speak our own language and do not swicht in to english. Det verkar ha varit mer begränsad kontakt i förhistorisk tid mellan Mälardalen och Norrland på grund av de stora och förmodligen svårgenomträngliga skogarna norr om Uppsalaslätten. Många av runstenarna i mellersta och södra Norrland är också på gammalvästnordiska, till skillnad från runstenarna i Mälardalen som främst är gammalöstnordiska. Det verkar också som att några norska vikingar tog sig ner från Trondheimssidan och stannade till i Södra Norrland innan de reste i Österled.

I don't speak any Scandinavian language, but I can totally understand why everyone says Danish sounds weird. When I hear Norwegian or Swedish, I can hear where a word begins and ends, and I can tell how many syllables each word has. But with Danish, every sentence is a soup of vowels, almost uninterrupted by any consonants. Then I see how the word is written, and the written word bears no resemblance to the spoken word. Half the letters aren't pronounced at all, and the other half sound different from what one would imagine.
@keanrdbropedersen14874 жыл бұрын
Thats exactly the difference. We danes can more easily understand norwegian (swedish to an extent, not as much), while they cant undestand us to the same level. Our language is more monotome, if we compare it to the norwegians almost singing. Also the reason our language is so hard. We actually have a very easy and simple written language. Our grammer is fairly easy. The hard thing is nailing the pronounciation. YOu dont just look at a word and read it up.
