My advice: Makes sure you completely check the ban list and when it's in effect. Anti-advice: After winning, yell "Battle City rules!" and take their prized card.

I don’t have typical deck styles, like blue eyes or fright furs I have weird decks with names: Infinite defense Xyz deck (literally just meant to bring out my best xyz monsters) synchro deck (xyz deck but synchros) Spellcasters (fusion monsters plus a couple xyz for dark magician) And 3 ‘normal’ ones D/D Cyber dragon And infinite draw (exodia ftk)

I wouldnt recommend learning to play as many styles as possible, to most people it can be a detriment. Different decks are made for different play styles fit for specific people. Telling people to learn as much as possible in a game with thousands of cards limits their time spent learning to play a deck that actually suits them well just because they feel like they need to practice a deck they dont feel comfortable playing

Oh yeah, even more tips: 1. New players are the core of the game. Without them the game will die. So be friendly to new players. Don't rip them off in trade deals. If you see somebody being rude to them or ripping them off, call them out on that shit. 2. People look for the most obscure cards. Fill up that binder. Just make sure to put the best/good cards in the front. For example, I once traded a (at the time) useless nordic core against a synchro I needed. Something I thought people wouldn't want. 3. Vendors aren't the root of all evil. They only pay like 50% of the market price, but they save you a lot of headache that gets involved with selling singles online. Have a card laying around that you will likely NEVER use? Sell it, and get some new cards or something.

Out of respect for Calvin: Five years in hell forged me into a weapon which I use to honor a vow I made to my father, who sacrificed his life for mine. In his final moments, he told me that truth... That our family's wealth had been built on the suffering of others. That he failed our city, and that it was up to me to save it and right his wrongs. But to do that without endangering the people closest to me, I have to be someone else. I have to be something else.

1. READ YOUR CARDS. The amount of times I went to an event and played against an opponent who picked up their deck the day before and have no idea on what their cards do is just ridiculous. 2. Don't be afraid to ask to read for your opponent's cards. Most players are nice and are willing to provide you the card so you can read it. And it never hurts to read it even if you are a little unsure about how it works.

Also, here is a random tip, especially for those that have many decks: Buy a lot of sleeves of the same brand and color, like 500, and put all your decks in the same sleeves. Makes it really fast and easy to switch cards between decks. However, keep in mind, to always buy a new set of sleeves the day of a big tourney (regionals/nationals/ycs). And don't go for too light colored sleeves. They get dirty faster.
@ShineKami666

Yes Trell!! I've had the "never scoop" philosophy forever!! ✊✊✊ K update for y'all in the comments section: I scooped against a Monarch player game 1 after he went first and summoned Vanity's Fiend. I was playing Synchrons. The reason I did this is because I didn't want him to know what I was playing. I played my turn by setting a monster and a backrow and passing. I did this to make sure I was allowing the possibility that he for some reason would tribute his Vanity's Friend for something else to continue his plays (which would obviously be a poor decision on his part). After realizing he was just gonna sit on that monster for the duration of the game, I said "End of Main Phase? Game 2." I won the match, and him not knowing what to side against me certainly helped. I'm sharing because a couple people in the comments section brought up this idea to me, and I wanted to show that it did in fact work for me, and that *sometimes* it is fine to forfeit a game

I've been living off of singles, so I wouldn't know where else to go aside from structure decks. Also, I understand one can attempt to sell what they don't need from sets, packs, and the like online at a fair profit of minimum $1 (depending) and whatever matches the TCG pricing, but I don't have access to doing that conveniently and you aren't going to be guaranteed towards selling them all within even the same two weeks. Breaking away from that tangent, I do get cheap packs sometimes for fun and see what I get.

An advice to experienced player when their are asked for advice about a decklist by a newcomer / returning player : Don't start by saying that every cards they play are trash. Not every one play on the same level, not every one is going for events and tournaments. Looking through a deck and saying to someone that they are playing garbage, need to buy expensive staples / meta-cards if they hope to be good really doesn't help. Sure you can tell them about combos, cool new cards that have synergies with what they play, but keep in mind that they may not have the same speed of learning, or amount of money as you. And they may not play for the competition, just for fun. If you want to play a deck because it's your favorite from the anime, because you just like the artworks, like the gimmick or because it just an easy deck to understand and play : go ahead. Sure you may not be at the same level than other players, but you don't have to play their way to have fun. Beside, a lot of players like to discover and play against new deck. You can be the new Flower Cardian Master. When I started to play again, and mostly learning the game again, I bought a few packs and sat at my locals. I build a quick deck just to try it out and played against a "veteran" player. I swear that I almost quitted after having him looks through my deck and saying that it was trash and that I should not play those cards (the only one that I had at this point and from a deck clearly made a few minutes earlier). Last advice to non english players (but can apply to every experienced player) that want to explain the rules to newcomers : Don't use all the technical terms right away, or without explaining what it mean in your own language. Stick to the rule book at first (And keep pendulums on the side for a moment, they are fun, but confusing for new players who already have a hard time understanding the differents type of cards).

I agree with what you said about calling their cards trash. What I did with my friend was tell him some good cards that can work with those cards. Alex's last tip really resonated with me at the end. Not regarding Ygo but actually Smash, considering all the crazy stuff that went down in the last month withing the community. It actually worked me up so much that I packed all of my stuff away and I thought I was done with something that I loved forever. But after hearing what Alex said it really made me think more about just taking a long break from Smash instead rather than outright discarding it from my life and that honestly made happy to think about, that maybe it hasn't left me for all time. So thank you very much for newly found perspective I have. Great vid Paul and big love to the rest of team.

Ive always enjoyed collecting and watching Yu-Gi-Oh off and on ever since the first episode aired. But now I’m wanting to actually start playing, I’ve never had anyone I could play with, still don’t but I’m gonna try going to a Yu-Gi-Oh night at my local card shop. Not gonna lie kinda nervous. I play duel links but I know that is not quite the same world. I’m just hoping to meet some decent veterans of the game who will be patient enough to mold a noob. I envy the bond and skill level you all share team APS, my hopes are that me finally reaching out will lead me to something that you all have or at least have decent people to play with! Trells point about not quitting is valid. However, it can be debated. Tactical scooping is thing. If your opponent is setting up a board that you know you don't have a main deck out to you can scoop so they won't know what deck your playing and won't know how to side for you.

i remember this one time when i was like 11, i went to my first card shop and I liked Neos at the time. I found an Air Neos that the shop was selling, and so i bought it. Sadly seconds later, this guy wanted to trade me the card for 2 crappy crystal beast cards and convinced me that they were worth, and since I was young I traded it thinking that it was fine. Till this day, I still regret the trade.

Unpopular opinion: when I got into yugioh, pendulums were the easiest thing in yugioh to understand. Not just as a summon but as a general mechanic in the game it was as easy to understand as fusions. Although personally I got lucky that I was able to understand yugioh in general(I still have some stuff to learn though in terms of interactions).

I'm right there with ya, Trell, I have won several dozen duels in Duel Links just for not quitting, and sticking with no duels no matter how bleak things looked. Your opponent can always miss-play, you can always draw that key card that you need, keep a focused mindset, and then you're good to go. With Six Samurais, there is always a chance.

I know this isn't related to the video but I know a way that konami can get new/Young people into yugioh. They could host junior tournaments for 13s and under with special cards up for grabs. They could also do duel schools or something like that people can learn combos, deck building etc. Just my silly brain wanting to look forward to something that I'd look forward to after covid

6:00 I have to disagree a little bit. It is true that most decks in OCG land can fix some problems because Maxx C is at 3 there. But if the archetype seemed good enough to work out even w/o Maxx C (or kaiser colosseum in some cases) then I might be a bit hyped or rather curious about how it will perform and adapt in the TCG.

Here's my tip, don't be afraid to ask questions, ask to read a card that was just played, or even call a judge over. Now this goes both ways as don't ask too many questions and call the judge all the time. If you're at a tournament or even playing casually, if you don't understand a card or what just happened in the game ask them to explain it or if they did something that doesn't seem right call a judge. If you don't understand what's going on you won't be able to counter things and just have less fun. For the most part the yugioh community is welcoming and helpful so don't be scared to ask when you don't understand

Here's an tip i give to new players and old players a like, learn to evaluate the card given the cards typing. Depending its a monster, trap, ect. And what the card gives you in the overall package of the card its self. Check for down sides in effects, level to atk and def ratio, the effect given for the monster's level, or whatever

I got some advice but I think it might be the same as in the video so here goes. Don"t be afraid to ask for help with your deck, example I built my generaider boss but I kept bricking with every hand. So I asked a friend for help, he & I bounced some ideas back & forth then bingo my deck's much better now.

Choose a deck you really like and you really want to play, may it be the mechanic, the strats or just the artworks, stick with it for a while. It’s not important if it’s a highly competitive or just a casual list, the thing is that it will be a lot easier for you to learn the game if you play a deck you enjoy and you have fun with. Then go from there

1. Don't lose a duel because you didn't take everything into account. Read the cards on the field, look at both your and your opponent's GY's, remember knowledge that is pertinent to the current duel. Every little piece of knowledge is valuable. Having game on board or losing the duel can all come down to what you know about the strategy and what has already been played. 2. Don't be stubborn and not play meta. You may not like a certain strategy but learning the strategy helps for you to learn how to beat the strategy. Just because a deck can do a 1 card +11 infinite negate board doesn't mean that there's some sort of hitch that you can exploit. This also relates to the first tip because this knowledge could be the difference between you topping an event or you losing on the bubble. 3. Don't think that a loss is all because the opponent luck sacked you. That happens sometimes but it's better to try and realize how did it come down to the heart of the cards to take you down. Could you have ended the game sooner? Could you not put game on board? Learning this can help you become a better player and learn the deck you're playing even better. 4. Don't be afraid to look at a Yugitibers or someone else's deck profile of the deck you're playing for advice and techs. That information is there for a reason. You never know when a spicy tech can come in clutch for you.

I started playing recently again and I realize a lot of players who didn't take a break get kinda dumbstruck when I play some cards that are in their eyes not really competitive, like Nordic decks, but my advice to other newcomers//return players is, just play your game, play the cards that best suit you, maybe you can try to combine some cards that you like and wouldn't match up at all at first sight
