No expectations before first date. That's the way I always do. The worst is when you have a date and feel a great connection with the guy, and he gives all signs he's enjoying as well. Then you get home thinking abut the night and next day you texted thanking about the time together and the guy doesn't even reply. That's freaking awful!

I am a widow in my 40s. This whole new dating fiasco is such a pain. Facial shopping what to do what not to do has become ridiculous. I just want to be me. Sitting here with my dogs is a lot more fulfilling and less stressful. I wish everyone well on their journey ❤️

I am also a widow in my late 40’s. I finally went on my first online date a year ago. We are still seeing each other. I recently broke it off with him. It’s so different now. Not, only this online dating stuff, but your value really gets tested. What are you bringing to the table. If we do get serious. We both own homes. He wants me to sell and move in with him. He pays half the expenses. But, I don’t get put on the mortgage! It’s so hard to stay positive and continue to date!

RedTango this is funny I have a date today & the guy wanted to go for some coffee & I’m like thinking. The exact same thing you just mentioned,, is he cheap or in case he doesn’t want to move forward at least he haven’t spend that much money on me? & I’m thinking to myself “if he only knew that I’m thinking of my paying for my food, because I chose the place & besides I’m not even planning ahead.” I'm just gonna enjoy the moment & let it flow naturally if it happens; it was meant to be & if it doesn’t oh well at least he won’t spend his money for nothing, & be all mad upset, just because it didn't go for him as planned it. Well, I'm thinking out loud here. Let's hope it will work for both of us. If it doesn't work, let's hope at least we can be good friends.

When a guy invites me for coffee. I blocked them. A date with me is worth more than a freaking cup of coffee 🤷. I don't waste my time with cheap ass dude. Guy invited me to coffee. I hung up the phone. 4 days later he called me back and invited me to dinner at a 5 star restaurant. What you settle for is what you get. Had I didn't know my value. It would of have been a coffee date .

So funny and so true. Two months after the official end of a dead relationship I decided to get out and enjoy life, joined a dating website and went on four dates in 2 weeks. First three were nice guys but not for me. By date no. 4 I'd calmed down. He was pretty laid back, conversation flowed and coffee turned into dinner. Months later he confessed that when we met he thought I was out of his league and relaxed more thinking he had no chance. We got engaged just over a year later :-)

Well, I do love to be imagined in the bed from the first sight, but it is extremely important that they understand how wonderful it would be that they would always find me there! The chance to get ME TO STAY in their bed should be their aim. Getting me to commit to them. And ONLY offering me sex is not going to keep me or impress me. Sex is available for me everywhere, so why would I stay with them? / This attitude should work with guys who are only after sex. It turns the tables around. Good luck, sisters! 😊😊😊

Hi Mathew, thank you for posting this video. The way you explain things is just brilliant. What I find the most interesting is that I can actually apply the things you say to many other situations in life, not only first dates. A job interview is a great example of a situation where people get very excited, fantasise about the new job, count the money they will make and even start spending the money in their minds but then very often comes a disappointment. After few interviews like that people are fed up. I know, I've been there. Your tips are great though and I am going to try to change my way of thinking when I get the next job interview. Thank you again.

I am 100% guilty of futurizing. Now that you put it out there like this, I realize why I'm feeling so down after a first date. I really have to be mindful and grateful in the future! Great video and you now have a new subscriber!

Aloha Mat! This is wonderful. The one thing (out of many) I picked up from you is creating the state of awesome state of gratitude. This may sound off the subject, but when faced with two cancers, I became very conscious about the necessity of feeling gratitude every day. A very deep part of me felt that would be a huge part of my healing, not only from cancer, but from fear about potential outcome (death). Gratitude, IMO, is the highest vibration in our precious Universe. Its capacity to heal us from physical, emotional, and mental traumas, is absolutely amazing. I'm so very Grateful for you in that you have lovingly, humorously, and creatively shared your gifts of understanding our authentic Selves and healthy relationships with all of us. Mahalo nui... :)

Mat--I cannot believe how simple and profound the truths are in this video. I have always approached a date with great excitement, often projecting future events, and eventually disappointment, just as you mentioned. I had not made the excitement/scarcity connection at all but I definitely make it now! I had always thought that "of course, I am excited; why wouldn't I be?" but it does reek of desperation that someone is at last asking me out...ugh! In the future, I will prepare for each date with a gratitude list of my own life's accomplishments, relationships, and material blessings...your ministry is powerful! Thank you!

What an awesome piece of advice. I really didn't expect that! To focus on gratitude vs excitement. At first I thought you were going to suggest "curiosity" as an alternative mindset, which I also think would be interesting to try. I will definitely keep this tip in mind!
