At the Jackson Hole airport gift shop, they sell bottles of huckleberry syrup (a local delicacy). You buy it, and then the TSA refuses to allow you to take it on board. I am reasonably certain they have 50 bottles of this stuff that keep getting sold, taken away by TSA, and then returned to the airport gift shop to be resold.

I once was asked to throw out a small jar of coconut oil at Vienna airport. I have a house in Thailand that I visit every year when we are not in a pandemic. I tend to bring the full luggage limit and bring things hard to find or expensive in Thailand. The most unusual thing that I’ve ever brought in carryon was a water pump. No problem with TSA in the U.S. I transited in Narita but they did want to take a long time examining it there. The only thing that I’ve ever had confiscated were 4 DeWalt 18 volt batteries for cordless tools. I put them in checked luggage, which TSA advised me to do in U.S. I transited in Shanghai and my bag never made it to Chiangmai. If you are carrying electronics through China, I’d definitely check their regulations in advance. It is fine to carry cordless batteries while transiting through China but they must be carried in carryon and not checked luggage. After spending 15 minutes a day calling China Eastern to find out what happened to my luggage, and 2 trips to the airport, I finally got my bag back with no batteries the day before I returned to the U.S. I found out first hand that China Eastern’s customer service is non existent.

I purchased a clear plastic bag with a zipper at Dischem in South Africa. It was advertised as being suitable for carrying liquids in my hand luggage. Security at OR Tambo International airport refused to let me use it, I had to go and source a Ziploc type bag before they would let me through. On my return I took the bag I had purchased back to Dischem and asked for a refund, which I got, and explained that contrary to their claims the bags were not accepted by airport security. Despite that Dischem continues to sell those bags to this day. Hope Ollie is now rid of his head cone. I had a dog called Ollie who also had to wear similar cones several times in his life, usually after eating something poisonous! I got stopped in Syracuse for having dried mangoes I got from Marshall’s. Unopened and dry in their own bag. Definitely considered food but not a liquid by any means. I think the scanner just saw a big mass of ‘something’ and they wanted to make sure it wasn’t anything weird. But I was one of the first people in line when the TSA lines opened so it held everyone up. Eventually they let me go and the TSA agent said ‘nice deal’ to me as I left cause the bag still had the price on it. Low key embarrassing but I would have been stopped anywhere I think.

So much hassle for protein powder. 2 small containers that were sealed. They were eventually allowed after a 30 minute screening. Felt extremely hassled. I was stopped two different times. One time, I was fairly new to commercial flying and forgot to take my laptop out of my laptop backpack. 100% on me, can't fault them for that. The one guy kinda understood thou once he saw it was an Asus (a nice gaming laptop) The second time I got stopped, I was in my late 20s. It was because there was "something on my right leg". after going thru the scanner Me: "That's a knee brace" TSA: _gives a "your joking" look_ Me: _pulls up pant leg_ TSA: _surprised_ "Oh, can you take it off?" Me: _takes off knee brace like it's not a big deal_ TSA: _runs knee brace thru x-ray_ I've had an issue with my right knee since I was about 16, so I'm used to wearing a knee brace when I'm sitting for extended periods.

Hi there Love all your videos. Very informative. Please keep them coming. I have a question regarding check-in luggages to/from Vietnam. Do you suggest we should use the luggage lock to lock it or no lock necessary. What do you think it is best? I know you only used carryon and didn’t check in your luggage when you traveled to VN. Thanks!

Sorry if this is late but, I would highly recommend to have a lock, to lower the risk of someone trying to take any of your belongings. Especially through bag check.

I once got into trouble with American airport security because I didn't put a lip salve in the liquids bag: a solid stick of Burt's Bees beeswax lip salve. Crazy, but you can't argue.

That's so frustrating, hopefully they let you keep it?!

Basically traveling by airplane is painful these days (security check, cancellations, delays, lack of customer service) , so travel if you really have to!

Hello Megan, are you staying put in Ottawa for a while? What’s the next travel destination and when do you think it’ll be safe again. Many countries are starting the open ups but still requires 2 wks quarantine, is it worth it?
@PortableProfessional3 жыл бұрын
hey, great questions! I am staying in Canada until vaccinated. The goal is to travel again late fall and honestly things are changing all the time so it will depend on the restrictions at that time in regards to where I go. I personally do not think it is worth it with the 2 week quarantine unless you are planning 2 months or longer in one country. This is up to you... but I do know quite a few people that are taking trip to Mexico with no quarantine required. Tempting!

I once brought a smoke/fire alarm in my carry-on about 10 years ago. Everything stopped and the armed response unit at Heathrow came running because, apparently, it looked like a small land-mine at X-Ray with it having a round shape with electronics and 9-volt battery made it looking as they said 'sinister.'
@chey16662 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity why did you bring a smoke alarm?
@jonasuk2 жыл бұрын
@@chey1666 I bought one with a 'pause/cooking button' for an elderly relative to place in her kitchen. Those were hard to find where I was going at the time but plentiful in the UK.

I once brought one from JFK to Athens. I happened to run into a TSA officer in the airport bathroom and asked her if it was ok to pass through security. She said it was ok and it was.

The easiest way to remember the "liquid rule" is - if you can pour it, spread it, or spray it, it must be 3.4 oz or less. Whether it's a toiletry, drink, toy, craft item, personal item, etc. You can bring anything if it's frozen solid (NO slush), including ice. You can bring all the empty containers you want (or filled with ice!), if you want to fill them once you're past TSA.

I was stopped & the souvenir Vegas lighter my spouse bought me was confiscated. Sad. Also, I get stopped and patted down due to my (clears throat)... radioactive coochie (My joke name due to this repeated situation. LOL) I don't know why, but the scanner pings that area on me every time & I don't know why.

I just got home a few hours ago from Hawaii. I asked them if my goat cheese was ok. It was. Also, I noticed that the screeners were a little lax on my inter island flights. I noticed after my flight between Honolulu and Hilo that I had fluids spread all over my bags. I was never asked to pull out my liquids at all on any of my 4 separate flights.
