Yeah, because Paris is a very rapey sort of town. I remember being there as a teenager and wearing jeans and a shirt and grown men coming up to me and being inappropriate. I would cover up.

I agrée. Why do American women think they have to bare all? It’s tarty.
@kimberlyperrotis8962

Many American women just look downright sleazy. I especially hate those super-short, ragged denim cutoffs that show the bare buttocks. Then, they complain when men stare, but isn’t that what they want? Why else let body parts hang out?! Nipple-revealing sheer or super low-cut tops are another problem. They claim they want to be respected and taken seriously, but then dress like street-walkers. It can be downright unsafe for women to show too much, or look too provocative. Many super-violent criminals target young women who look like that, because they think no one will care if they vanish! I can’t stand thinking about the terrible risk they take.

Unfortunately, it seems that showing off their breasts or dressing provocatively is all many younger women think they have to offer. They lead with it. They do it to compete with other women are dressed in the same way, especially for the attention of men.

What happened to the time when “putting your best foot forward” and looking lovely was a GIFT to the person who has to look at you? Thankfully, the French are “holding a line”, especially in Paris, against the “comfort” -“let it all hang out” rebellion!! 🇫🇷💙

As an American, I’ve seen so many people go in their pajamas everywhere. Gas stations, coffee shops, grocery stores, the works. I personally don’t cause you never know what situation you’ll end up in when you go out. It’s always best to be prepared and dressed nicely at the very least

When I travel to NYC or Paris, for years now, I always reverse the bag. I think the Mona Lisa pocket is distinct enough that others know it's Chanel, but I still reverse the bag so that, as you point out, pickpockets cannot gain easy access.

Bonjour Alice, your video makes me miss Paris. During my annual visit to France since age 14, I endeavored to be a “mini-ambassador” for my country, to do my part to repair the many negative stereotypes for USA: I spoke French, was always calm/polite/courteous, and especially loved to dress beautifully every day. This video, Paris, you, all inspire me to do better in my everyday life. Merci Alice.

Luckily I haven't experience the pajama thing in 12 years in US but I know it does happen, actually my European friend was guilty of it when she lived in California. But the work out gear yes, people work out and then go for coffee after their class, as well I have friends who are trainers and they do live in their workout gear as they have classes all day, fitness is much bigger in US then in Europe, I think its because in Europe we walk more but in US the cities are much bigger so you must drive everywhere and that takes your steps away. Paris definitely has the French chic vibe which I love, the timeless classic. I am going to Paris soon so this was great video 🙏🏻🙏🏻

What does "My European Friend" mean. English? French? German? Italian? Danish? Finnish?! Note - North America, is a Country. Europe - is a HUGE Continent. Ditto "Asia" - & watching various U S types saying "Oh that Asian man" or " My European Friend" is the height of silliness, (& it's also extremely impolite, if not very, very, rude) obvs you can swap yr trainers for decent casual shoes, NOT wear huge logos & "not wear sports gear for everyday" - except actually IN the Gym - but yr wasting the effort if you say such things. (& I say this kindly💜💜-but you must realise how truly awful & disrespectful saying such things is - you know; As if you think YOUR Country is the Only Country that counts!🙈💜- & it really isn't. Never was, actually, sorry to explain the reality of the World outside of the Domestic U S (although I am kindly explaining this to you - better it's me, than you saying this sort of thing) - as you decide to browse Hernes or Chanel OR if you're entering a half decent Restaurant or smart, bijoux Hotel in Paris (bc they will roll their eyes, talk about you in a language you don't speak nor understand - & make v unpleasant remarks -& ALL yr food will be cold OR the waiter may put something in yr coffee (or "dinner") that you don't want to consume, you know.. ouf)🙏💜🇬🇧💜🌏💜 NB) - She doesn't mean "workout in sports gear then get coffee. She means - fat U S ppl who wear "sports clothes" & ugly, colourful on white trainers that aren't pristine, ALL day everyday🙈💜 Now remember, when in Paris; don't think that way. Think - always describe ppl (respectfully) by Nationality. (& follow ALL the rules she tells you on here.) I could bring up a few more that I've learned in Paris & France altogether (+ I speak the language so I can understand what they say about the Tourists) but it's a lot to remember, so - this will do for now. (& then you'll impress them as a "smart" U S person & they won't roll their eyes - or glance off each other etc.) & most importantly; remember - Not to be "the loudest person anywhere" - & then it will all go VERY well.🤗💜 (Note further, & I must say this, bc hopefully it's not yr fault; DO⚠️NOT watch Emily in Paris🙈💜 & do NOT mention it!⚠️That really hurt you lot🥺💜 & "Europeans, espc French & UK - are NOT happy & it just gets worse & worse every series. (Oh & espc in China - ouf) Do NOT mention it, & if they do, strongly & subtly deny ALL knowledge - you hv NEVER seen it, Never heard of it!🙏💜

@@Seraphine07F well I did see the show and I definitely don't like the show, but as well American aren't like that, the show is more like a comedy making fun of all countries mentioned within the show. I don't know what kind of life style you live but I am too old to worry of what someone thinks of me, it's so unimportant to me, I live my life free. My friend was Czech, but as well I just had French man wearing Adidas hoodie through Prague. I think your message has bit of personal insecurities because honestly why do you care what someone you will never see or perhaps didn't even notice think of you? Like why? All nationalities have elegant and not nicely dressed people, all of them! Le bling bling avec les grosses marques bien visibles ce n'est pas pour éviter les pickpockets, c'est que ce n'est pas vraiment de bon goût pour la majorité des parisiens. The wearing pajamas or working out gear trend are def something I noticed in more well-off suburbs here in the US. It’s safe to assume they will be driving directly from home to the big stores for a couple things in a very nice, well kept community, and then drive directly home. Dressing up too nice in outfits you would only wear for occasions makes you look trying too hard and therefore you are not actually rich. Though I supposed that is a thing everywhere. But what is considered too nice definitely can vary. in the city When I moved away to a different area for work NOT in the suburbs with a different demographic and city planning, people would def stare and scratch their head at me if I bring my clean pajama to sweep dust out and about. People dress practical. And I really don’t see young women out and about grocery shopping, probably they are not very comfortable with wearing usually the form fitting leggings out and about where you never know what kind of creepy stranger might approach.

It is not. I do agree many people here wear athleisure. I do wear casual clothing more often now but I wouldn’t be comfortable wearing workout clothing to brunch or a bar. I do wear workout clothing on the way to the gym or the park, however I understand in other countries it is more common to only change into the fitness attire once arriving at the gym.

@@Aliceinparisofficial Well, to be fair, one has to try hard to draw disapproving attention in cities like New York or LA. I believe that's because there are so many odd people on the streets that the locals are used to seeing some pretty bizarre manners of dress. And then there are the outright crazies who will attack you if you give them a look, so people just avoid any kind of interaction like that.

I understand that being average and dressing half naked or with no decency is the norm but Yes there is dress code in luxury boutiques and nice places in Paris. Some tourists get laugh at and they are wondering what is wrong.... others scream loud in the metro, use space with their suitcase without saying sorry... we Parisian do have an opinion and my advices go for everyone who is traveling.

We know some people lack taste, ahem, Kardashian, however I haven't ever worn anything like the left side of the thumbnail. What was the right side, the pajamas--only old people and young children wear them outdoors in Hong Kong. I'm sure lots of people wouldn't wear that anywhere, not only in Paris.

I wouldn’t wear any of these things here in the US, either, especially the skimpy, really sexy clothes that a lot of American women wear. I don’t think any of it is appropriate for public, day or street wear. That said, I’m usually one of the most modestly and formally dressed woman around. Everyone (almost) where I live wears black or gray tight and skimpy, or loose and baggy, polyester gym clothes or pajamas, and flip-flops, except me! I would be absolutely miserable in those. If would improve your videos is you would pronounce women correctly, as you say it so often. Forget the O in it, it’s pronounced Wimin or Wimen. Go by ear, not spelling, for this word, English spelling is nonsensensical. Thanks for the authentic French tips. I don’t have to worry about designer logos because I don’t have any! Not being rich has its benefits.

As an American, I too frown on the practice of wearing pjs out in public but it is not like half the people here are doing it. 😅 One thing about Americans, we are not monolithic. We are very diverse. While some approach to presentation may not be in the best taste, we are not a cookie cutter society. We are also not an uptight society, so everyone will not look prim and proper whenever leaving home. I will leave my gym class, in my gym clothes (with a coverup on) and grocery shop. Unapologetically 😂 While it is important to be respectful of other’s cultures, a tourist is a tourist and will not blend in. I understand that in some European cultures, it’s okay to stand extremely close or to reach over someone during shopping, but I just realize that this is likely a part of a culture or that particular person. I also understand that a number of Europeans stare at Black Americans but I don’t equate this to the masses.

@@comfychic6029 I lived in America for 8 years and I really enjoy the vibe and the culture. It was a great experience. There are things I took back with me like gym clothing and sneakers... I enjoy wearing it on sunday and sometimes when I am super lazy to dress up. This video is only for tips purpose especially if you want to enter everywhere. There is a dress code and in Paris its very implicit sometimes. Its like that. My ex fiance who was american and ex Ivy Ligue was all the time in Pj when off 😂 it was a shock between 10k suits and a frumpy pyjama. @@Aliceinparisofficial I do understand that the pjs out are a shock for you as they are for me. Glad you didn’t take your bf’s advice 😂. I appreciate your willingness to help us understand the culture of Paris. I just hate when people approach education about cultural differences as condescending, whether said or implied. Sometimes the tone can be a bit elitist. I understand that this is your channel, your opinion and I don’t have to watch but it’s giving a little tone deaf 😅. You are correct in SOME of what you are saying. I think the issue is the tone and the possibility of those who have never visited thinking that we crazy Americans are just lazying around in our night clothes. We too have dress codes for our more upscale restaurants here and I love and appreciate that bc there are a few people who will test their boundaries. I will be coming to Paris in the fall for the first time and I assure you that I will be appropriately dressed. ☺️.
