You should look into passive house design! It’s using the design of the house to your advantage in regards to heating and cooling: planting trees in specific spots to keep the house cool in the summer, angling the roof overhangs to block summer sun but let in winter sun. It’s environmentally friendly and cost effective!

If it were me, I would get a modular home. Live in it while you wait to build/are building. Then it can become a guest house, or even a rentable lodging space if someday you offer personal classes or anything along that line!

when we build a home ... we bought a 16 x 80 mobile home... it was 3 beds with 2 full baths huge living room and nice kitchen and laundry.... we paid 8000 for it and put it on the new septic till were ready to build... then we sold it for 10,000... worked out fantastic

Build the ducks and geese a coop and keep them in it for a while, and they will stay when allowed out during the day. Train them to return to the coop at night. My mom raised waterfowl for many years and that is how she kept the swans and exotic waterfowl from leaving. Hope this helps. BTW, check pond for snapping turtles, they will eat small ducklings.

My husband, son and I moved back home to Texas and lived in an RV for over 6 months. We built a 1500 SQ foot barndominium. Half of it is a small house and we have LOVED it plus it's paid off while we save to build a dream home adjacent. It's great that the pressure is off for the next build since we are already on our property and have no mortgage. We have been in a camper for over a year now building our home my husband designed and our homestead from scratch. Bringing all of our animals and starting from nothing was a lot of work. And yessss the cooking in a camper part is HaRD! We have a huge harden planned and in the works and kitchen has become one of the priorities, aside from bathroom, I need my bath time again 😅. I have never commented before but I just want to let you know that I am so amazed at how fearless both of you are. I am a new gardener, covid brought me to your family. I have learned so much from you. I watch you every day and i share everything i learn from you with others. Thank you for teaching me so much. Last yr I grew one tomato on a patio of an apartment on the 3rd floor. Today i have nine varieties of tomato plants, a yard and over 30 tomatoes growing! Thank you so much!

Aww, Asher is cute. He didn't seem nervous at all. I remember being shy as a young kid. I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. I told myself that I was going to pretend that I wasn't. That's exactly what I did. That was pretty much the end of that.

It’s beautiful that your friends will be able to continue to develop your current homestead. Jill is a star in the making-the camera and her followers LOVE her! It won’t be long until someone from Magnolia Network gives her a show. As for building a new home, it’s a very expensive endeavor. A prefab home or sponsored log cabin would be ideal for you. Congrats, on your wonderful new piece of land!

I first met Jill when she was farm-sitting there for a weekend & she was so elated to be entrusted with your farm I remember thinking she's just going explode with joy.
