Kudos to all who helped...wish we had a crew like that when we did our long moves, but it's an adventure no matter how you get it done. Love you all...be patient with yourself and each other....so very happy for you.

I'm a veteran of the horse show circuit. I can't even begin to tell you how daunting a task moving an entire farm seems to me! KUDOS to all the participants for making it go this smoothly. I know ANY loss seems harsh to you, but I feel like you did a terrific job! Keeping your livestock under close surveillance seems a wise idea. Animals are built to hide injury and trauma or illness, so sometimes things don't show up until after the fact. But then you know this. I'm tickled you guys are now home, with most everyone safe. I'm sure you can't wait to get your pets home as well. Blessings and hugs!

Getting ready to go to a show very early one morning, my eldest goes out to feed the horses. He comes back in talking about a bird he's seen in our neighbours huge conifer trees, and asks me what it could be. Well I don't know, tell me what it looks like. Big, grey, a bit like a Pigeon. OK, well then it was probably a Pigeon. He says he doesn't think so, because it's bigger than that, so I go out to look, but there's no bird in the tree. Just as I'm about to come back in the house, a huge Heron takes flight from further off down the street. That's the bird! Seriously, Dude, that's nothing like a Pigeon in anything but colour! Ever since then Herons have been known in our Family as 'Ryan's Pigeons' 🤣

Garden is your happy place. Totally get it. It’s a place to rest , a place of meditation, a place of prayer, a place of self support and self sustainability both spiritually and physically.. it is life in so many ways. And oftentimes less to do with the food than the soul. Glad you are finally in the new place. Can see the joy in your face

Wild Mallards mate for life. If the duck on your lake that has the same coloring as a Mallard but is the same size as your domestic ducks then it is a Rouen. Rouens are a breed of domesticated ducks that look exactly like Mallards. Wild Mallards are a much smaller duck.

I think my favorite part of this video is when the caravan with the animals pulled in and the boys went running after screaming with joy. A Hallmark moment, of family & pets arriving to your new home. Dad is home! Thank you so much for taking the time out to post what is unfolding. I share your joy watching all your animals feasting on their new landscape and pond. I know you will show more & I can't wait!

Congratulations on the new home and property. It feels so good doesn't it. My husband and I just moved into our first home and we are so happy here, it feels like such an accomplishment. We've been here for about a yr and a half now, but construction has been on hold for a while. Thanks for sharing with us Jess. You live on a wonderful, peaceful piece of property. I wish you the best of luck there. Now your closer to me here in Central Florida, the bugs take a bit of getting used to. I'm not sure about your climate but we have over 60% humidity almost everyday of the yr lol. The summers are exceptionally brutal, both sun intensity, heat and humidity. I'm so glad all of your animals made it there ok. Can't wait to see what it turns out to be❤

Where did you guys find your property at? Did you work with a realtor when looking or just exhausting Zillow searches like the rest of us? lol Kind of a crazy time to be buying land right now and with money burning a hole in my pocket it makes searching hard. Congrats on the new property!

I love that the mallard was so happy for a new family! Be careful with the herons. They will eat chicks and ducklings. We live on a lake, and get wild ducks and Canadian geese. They usually leave the goslings alone, because they are bigger.

I was also going to let you know that Great Blue Herons are predatory. I have a video of one catching and swallowing a squirrel whole. They are gorgeous and HUGE! but they gotta eat and I don't think they are too picky...

Yeah my Mom saw a heron walk out of the river up in their yard and grab a chipmunk. She was so upset and then she said it got another one, so they had one left. Seriously traumatized my Momma. I was surprised to hear they did that since we used to live on a lake and the herons and egrets nested in our cove and I never saw them eat anything but fish.

Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, (Or if you already know) but Great blue herons will gladly kill and eat ducklings if your ducks hatch any out.

It would be a good idea to build an island out of sealed PVC pipe and weed fabric covered with soil that floats in the center of the pond as soon as you can so the ducks and geese can rest safely at night away from predators. They bulld these in Germany for swans,. Anchor it with something heavy attached to a rope.

I am so excited you are on the other side!! Yes, there are things your still going to have to do and travel involved but this is the biggest part. Where your brain can finally stop thinking about all the moving parts! I totally understand getting some gardens in. Yes, you need to be restful, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still do stuff to worm towards the goal. You’ll be resting all winter long 😁

@@mariafolch8067 I live close to them. It’s still more rest than a summer crop. I don’t ever “stop” gardening. But there are times of year it is more hands off and there is more rest time.

If a young dog is in (say) a car accident and needs one hip ball sliced - nature helps form a perfect joint “replacement”. The best therapy is then to swim. Your young duck will be fine now it has a pond. It’s amazing to see old veterinary practices work.... (sorry vets, who prefer expensive double hip replacement procedures 😳😬... - running away with tin hat firmly in place.) 😐

@@RootsandRefugeFarm Yes. The body builds replacement cartilage that forms a ball. I’ve never looked into why it wasn’t a “procedure” for humans. Perhaps hip replacement for the elderly has to do with the inability to naturally produce cartilage. Dunno. Ask an older vet.... I was a veterinary nurse for a number of years. Assisted in hip shearing procedures for young dogs. Genetically weak duo hip problems with some dogs (like Alsatians) was a different matter. But accidents with one (smashed) hip on a formally healthy dog, shearing the hip ball off was standard procedure. I adopted a dog with such a procedure when I worked as a veterinary nurse. Two months swimming in a light tidal sea estuary and he fully recovered as in no hopping on dry land. Added bonus he sensed when the salmon and sea bass were running.. win win win! 😃

@@amandar7719 humans just don't grow cartlidge as fast or well enough to form a psuedo hip ball and we're bipedal so hip is in too loose a configuration

@@Silverstreamhomecrafts I knew there was a good reason why it doesn’t work with humans. Bless you for explaining. I remember being told long ago but didn’t file it in my head for future reference. My main point was how brilliant swimming is for animals to recover the use of an injured repaired leg rather than continue to favour/strengthen the compensating leg.

If you put an organic blue dye in your pond that is designed for that use, it will prevent the voracious blue herons from seeing the fish in the pond. They are just awful awful or good good hunters and they will wipe out the stock in half an hour. Quite dreadful even though they are beautiful.
