Do you have any experience with trademarks? I’ve been researching an idea for about a month and came up with an interesting name for the product, but the more I think about it, it seems like it could make a good brand name down the road versus a single product name. Now I’m trying to determine if I should TM the name or not.

Hmm. Good question. For me, it would depend on the scope of the idea. Do you see this as being million dollar idea? We really don't know for sure, but if you feel like its something big and you're serious about chasing it, then maybe its worth it. But if its anything less than that, it may not be worth the effort and cost?

Besides what Andy said in his reply, here's another thing to consider (one that most people don't even think about): Do you have the budget and/or financial resources to aggressively defend your trademark after it's granted? Because if not, it's a moot point. You have to be willing (and able) to spend a sh*t load of money for attorneys and court costs to defend a trademark against any and all infringements (even the tiniest ones), otherwise you will lose the protection a trademark gives you.
