Ignore all the CNC specific stuff and this all applies 100% to every business. I don't have a cnc yet but I do a lot of laser stuff and I have experience all of the things Andy talks about here over the last 5 years of growing my business. Everything he said is spot on. Great vid!

@@christopherhorne8665 technically true but when you say "cnc" everyone immediately goes to router/spindle instead of laser, waterjet, 4 axis lathe, etc

Omg your channel has got me pumped. After doing my 1st sign w a hand router I started seriously considering cnc as a side hustle to my chainsaw carving. I haven't purchased anything yet. I know what I need to do as I learned in some of your other great videos such as get a good Evac . My questions are this; can I actually set up a machine in my woodshop? Will your course help me with everything I need to-do? I'm all about action. Sometimes, I'm too quick, lol. Where do I go from here? Ty so much for the time you put into teaching here . I'm ecstatic to find your channel. DustyGirl

love this video and totally agree with your points.. I watched your video with Cutting it Close and when he said nothing in woodworking is revolutionary you have to make it better. I thought that was great, even my wife remembered that.

Thanks for watching! Hopefully it takes some pressure of thinking we have to come up with a 1 of a kind idea and we can just create and iterate.

I have watched a lot of videos on these topics from content creators such as yourself, cutting it close, jennie and davis (and the list goes on). Not one has said how much it 'costs' to make the money ... only that you can make 10k - but what is the amount after you subtract your costs (time, materials, entrance fees etc.). This is the true amount.
@AndyBirdBuilds
@AndyBirdBuilds 7 ай бұрын
I've done several videos on how to price your products. All of those costs should be factored in your product pricing. But that's not what this video was about. It's about how to generate money, because guess what? If you don't know how to make a product that sells, nothing else matters. It's assumed that people understand their is cost in doing business.

I agree, it’s nice they say they made “X” amount but it seems a lot is left out on purpose for the sake of views on the video.

I'm still the process of starting my side hustle but my inspiration for ideas comes from my personal interests. I've have some ideas bouncing around in my head which are related to other non woodworking related topics. I figured I can take other things that I'm interested and come up with ideas to create prototype samples for those subjects and then send those samples to key players in that particular market. Think about what your other interests are and base your ideas around that interest. It's not a guarantee of success but it is a launching point. Also, if others starts seeing your samples it might create a need for a new widget that you hadn't thought of before.

I fully agree with what you say. Where I live one there are large craft and farmer market every weekend and even a mid week market. Due to my job I can not do the mid week. A single group runs all these markets. I have contacted them multiple times with photos of my products. All I get is a 2-3 sentence response with hoops to jump through, “You have to prove that you have created these products and provide proof of insurance for your products.” I am trying other areas and did get my first order a trial of a couple different serving trays with the hope of more trays and custom cnc work. I travel for my job 4 days a week. I like my job and I am paid well. My goals right now are to pay off my machine and make the hustle sustainable and remain fun. Thank you for your insights I appreciate them.

What do they mean by insurance for your products?
@kevinrich4637
@kevinrich4637 7 ай бұрын
I did not get into specifics with them as I felt they were wanting me to jump through hoops but what I got out of it is that I had to carry insurance on my products in case something happens I can be sued and they remain innocent from any damages. Just seemed fishy. I just got my first commercial order so it all worked out.

But I especially appreciate your honesty and your desire to help others understand and grow past the pitfalls and push through to greatness! Side note, CONGRATS on the growing family! It's not easy following our passions while also maintaining good career choices when time is such a precious and limited resource. That being said, I did not hesitate to join your brand new course today! Another HUGE congrats on that too, good sir! Here we gooooooooooo!!!

Is Etsy truly the best way to get things going for ourselves vs starting a store of our own (website)? I read SO many awful things about how bad Etsy has become and how they do not treat their sellers fairly anymore. Fees, deleting accounts without warning, etc. I realize they have the eyes/customers, but at what cost in the end? I see now, apologies. This is only part of the net-casting :-)

Still cold here but busy getting our rentals ready for the next batch of students. Weather is changing and the homes are almost done. I been thinking of things I want to do that would be easy for me to start. Think I will run it by you, By pre made boards off Amazon and carve Bible verses on them. People I know on Facebook are very religious, might pick up from them to their friends. Just a thought. Thanks for checking up. Redds

I realise that laser cutting is going to leave that burnt edges.... but I hate the look of it... I can't stand it. It looks so cheap and mass produced. Is there any way to minimise or eliminate it? short of sanding it off by hand, which would defeat the purpose of rapid production if I slow it down with tedious sanding.

In germany you have the Problem...most of the generated money you'll lose to the Gouvernment for taxes...the more money you make...the more you'll lose...😢
@AndyBirdBuilds
@AndyBirdBuilds 6 ай бұрын
I think it's similar here, but I don't think about it that way. I think of it as a 4 to 1 trade. For every 4 I make, I get to keep 3 and give 1 to taxes. Yes, the more I make the more I pay, but also the more I keep.

Working as a freelancer in germany i had to pay 45% income tax on my profits. The government also takes 19% transaction tax (value added tax?). Add the monthly cost for your tax consultant and you end up with an insane amount that your clients will have to pay. The money is funding germanys bloated social system providing free housing, living expenses and free medical care for anyone not interested in working. The whole system is now starting to fall apart due to a massive influx of immigrants. Most of them won’t do any work since the pay from entry level jobs is the same as state welfare.
