Personally, I'm afraid of strange dogs, let alone bears... 🤣 But I know that this question (or more precisely, the answer) is not about a bear. I read some very good arguments why the surveyed women prefer a bear... "if I am attacked by a bear and I survive, I won't have to prove it, everyone will believe me. If I am raped and survive, I will be stigmatized and I will have to prove that it is not my fault"; "After a bear attack, no one will give me a leaflet on how to dress so as not to provoke bears..." The general point is that we still live in a society where being a woman hurt by a man is stigmatized. Raped women have to prove that they did not provoke and face comments that it was their fault. Was the woman beaten by her husband/boyfriend? Well, she certainly deserved it... etc. And what if she gets attacked by a bear? No one will say that it is her fault that the bear was provoked.... Of course, it works both ways, violence against men (on the part of women) is even more downplayed, but there is less of it, so it does not trigger such discussions (but it should).

I'm a french man. Sure I would go to man, even knowing he could be dangerous (also for a man). Between the 2 dangers, the différence is that the man may be not lost himself and I could with him get out of the forest. With the bear no way.
