I'm sorry but Friesians and Vikings are not the same people. What is the source of your information. I feel this isn't quite accurate.
@learnfrisian10 ай бұрын
@@jjdevegt Well, it's a known fact that Frisians were vikings too, probably even before the Norseman.
@D1-Games10 ай бұрын
Frisians were, well, frisians. They did have a connection through trade and politics with their Northern neighbours, the Jutes though (there are some sagas describing these contacts) and those were the actual vikings, not the Frisians. In fact, Dorestad was a Frisian settlement and not Frankish (although too connected to its neighbours through trade). There is some evidence of Frisian participation in the Great Heathen Army though, and there was a Frisian settlement on the Faroer islands. But to ascribe largely Jute actions (those of the 'vikings') to the Frisians is historically incorrect...

@@D1-Games After seeing these comments I decided to do a little research on if the Frisians were with the Vikings. Now I only looked on the internet so don't trust this too much, but from what little things I could find it seems some of the Frisians did go on adventures with the Vikings but it was not like their whole thing most seemed to just stay home. So the only way we could know if this is true is to have a Frisian expert so I trust what LearnFrisian say but yeah could not find much on it. So I think it was a mix of helping the Vikings and trading with them.

@@A_Anitmated_Idiot Fair enough, but to trust a selfascribed expert on KZbin as a reliable source of information and being historically correct is questionsble at best. As someone previously asked learnfrisian; what are your sources? As a historian, I would love to read them, since every reliable source so far contradicts just about everything stated in this video. Without solid historical and archeological evidence, I'm inclined to see this entire video as wishfull revisionism...

My mother's maiden name is Zwartwoude in Dutch, Swarthout in English, which means blackwood. Until a few years ago we were told we were Dutch, but we're actually West Frisian from Groningen, I'm learning more about my ancestors. These videos are very cool. The sad part is I've never heard too much about them, but I am now!! And I believe these stories to be true. Thank you so very much for these videos!!!

My grandparents were East Frisians. A recent DNA test immediately found the Frisian and German but also Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Faroe Islands and Baltic reaching down to Kyiv. I’m living proof that this has some truth. They got around.
