I honestly think Raditz was just saying that to draw Goku in. He knows that Saiyans enjoy a challenge, so it'd be the perfect way to convince him to join them. Outside of Freeza's goons, Vegeta and Nappa appeared to be capable of taking on anyone else at that time. I kinda find it hard to believe that there was a planet filled with inhabitants capable of pushing them to the limit. It's interesting to think about, though.

Interesting. He might not have even known and that was just what Vegeta wanted him to believe. I could see Vegeta plotting to kill Freeza, but waiting until Goku joined them. Likely waiting to see what he was working with, before he told the rest of the Sayians what he was up to. Or, there really was a challenging planet and Vegeta wanted to use challenging planets to raise his power level to kill Freeza. One thing I don't understand was, how Raditz was going to take Goku with him, considering that space pods only hold one person.

@@onmywaytolife3660 A lot of time had passed between Raditz’s arrival and that part of the Buu arc, so while Vegeta could take out Pui Pui very quickly at the time he did, it’s possible that he would have had a lot worse time of it so much earlier on. So maybe it would have taken 3-4 Saiyans to conquer that planet. Pui Pui’s power level was so skewed in the Buu arc due to how much Vegeta’s power had grown since the beginning of Z that we may never know. Lol

Personally, I always figured that Nappa's normal/base power was 4,000. However, he could go up to somewhere between 6,500-7,000ish after he fully charges up like he did against Goku. The newly revived Saiyan had a power level of 'over 8,000' (going by the manga and original version) and he stated how Nappa was giving him a good fight. Kind of like how Vegeta started off his duel with Goku at a power level weaker than 18,000 because the Kaio-Ken allowed Goku to get a good lick in before Vegeta countered and then went full power himself.

I like to think it was a matter of logistics. For some reason the saiyans had a strict time/space limit to defeat/wipe out the planet. So splitting it in 1/4 rather then 1/3 makes it a lot easier to cover needed ground.

In order to effectively clear a planet of its defences, they’d need to transform into Apes, ensuring they were able to wipe out the most concentrated populations swiftly and lay waste to the surrounding areas in case of the natives forces hiding out. They’d need a 4th to increase their efficiency before the moons cycle ends. Think of it like America invading the Middle East. They. Had the fire power but they couldn’t just nuke the area, that’d eliminate any use of the land. This allowed the Taliban to hide their forces, ensuring they’d always have a fight remaining, despite being greatly outgunned.

Yardrat makes sense. It would also give them a reason to train Goku, as a reward for taking care of the problem they had. To be honest, I doubt the Ginyu Force could've conquered them. It would be funny if it was the planet Broly and Paragus were on. Video ideas: - How big was Frieza's Empire? Was it only a part of the Cold Empire, with some sectioned off for King Cold (and Cooler)? Did it span the Galaxy, or only a few hundred solar systems? Who was buying these planets? - Was the Ginyu Force really the strongest Frieza had, or were they just conveniently close? The Table special and Super implies Frieza had stronger forces.

Super’s power scaling of Freeza’s forces was absolutely ridiculous. Even if I assume that Krillin didn’t make any substantial gains after the Freeza arc and that the other Earthlings involved never really got to that level, the idea that Freeza was able to come to Earth with an army with members strong enough that a vast majority of them weren’t just instantly vaporized by Piccolo (or hell, even Tracksuit Gohan) is ridiculous.

I guess in-universe Raditz made it up as something to convince Goku to join their cause, and given how weak and underdeveloped Goku's power was at this point to be of actual use, and how Raditz was willing to kill him when he dared to challenge him alongside Piccolo, the real reason Raditz came to Earth was to have a weaker saiyan to lord over and look down upon to compensate the fact that Vegeta and Nappa look down upon him as well.

@@Jiron127 not quite twice as strong, not until after destroying Zarbon (remember he had 4 zenkai boosts at least from Cui, Dodoria and Zarbon, possibly more from offscreen namekian deaths (minor ones) I would guess that the manga (japanese versions) probably show more in depth fights between them before their eventual deaths. Remember that in the anime it took 2 fights to destroy Zarbon. That alone indicates that technically without going Oozaru he was weaker than Zarbon (but very close). The Anime proves that with Zarbon having the chance to finish Vegeta off (effectively knocked out and vulnerable to death, and was foolishly assumed by Zarbon that he had drowned. So that's a good measure of his power when he arrives on namek (rounded down a bit for recovery after earth sayajin saga, and slightly increased with each fight). Its just that for Vegeta the sayajin saga, Zarbon and the Ginyu force are the most significant zenkai boosts he acheived on namek (remember vegeta basically had a mental ladder of opponents to climb to power him up a bit before he took on Freeza (which was underestimated as even first form proves to be match for him at the time). Realistically Vegeta couldn't of taken on even 2nd form Freeza and won at that point without Oozaru form (if Freeza would let him achieve that with his tail) But as far as who gets the biggest boost aside from Goku that's debatable. Piccolo is in the running as he COULD take out 2nd form Freeza (but would lose vs 3rd based upon the anime). Freeza is also technically in the running despite losing the big fight. (it is stated but not measured that he had significant improvements during the fight by Goku (just less so than Goku which proves that technically Zenkai boost is not just after a fight but also during (kind of a power creep upwards) But by that logic you could also argue that Goku's battles on earth with Piccolo (demon king (old), rejuvenated and Junior also prove that) Its also a interesting question as to what would be the outcome had Piccolo and Vegeta battled after being teleported to earth (there is a verbal squabble there for a bit). And based upon the namek power levels it'd be close (my money would be on Vegeta). Bear in mind we're talking pre SSJ1 Vegeta but after his revival and teleportation to earth while the Goku vs Freeza fight was still going on) And it was without his tail too. Those 2 would of been in a similar enough ballpark to have a significantly long fight (its just that they chose not to technically) I don't think Masako and his crew covered that potential alternate universe fight and its outcome. It'd basically of answered if Vegeta would of become strong enough to take on Freeza form 3. Remember that Freeza was just toying with him while in his final form and NOT powered up to 100% and vegeta was struggling to do anything. Its at least kind of overestimated how much of a jump Vegeta would achieve (zenkai boosts are technically not equal even among the same race, and ALL fighters achieve a increase in power during and after a fight (just less so with lesser races) Even Vegeta struggles a bit more with Zarbon in fight 2 than before. Its just that vegeta had increased significantly enough to convince Zarbon that the transformation would be enough to make up the difference. (technically Vegeta is only stronger than Zarbon in handsome form in fight 2. Its just that he's also stronger than Zarbon's powered up form then too)

When I rewatched the series with DBZ Kai, I had the thought that Raditz was looking for his own "Raditz" so that he wasn't the weakest Saiyan. There are several possibilities on this Planet that was to be invaded that I considered awhile back: 1) Plot device to introduce the audience to the concept of planet busting. 2) A planet Vegeta and Nappa conquered without Raditz, maybe they used Saibamen instead of relying on Raditz and a possible 4th Saiyan (as they "only had 6" remaining once they reached earth). 3) Unnamed Planet with a strong weapon or defense that would require a sacrifice to get around, Raditz thought his brother in Oozaru form might be the perfect distraction and worth risking his borther's life, instead of his own. 4) Yardrat like mentioned above. I remember playing the 2nd dbz nes game years ago and while playing as Goku, you encouter planet Yardrat and I believe they mention having seen Saiyans before (not that the game is accurate to the cannon). 5) Namek, Nappa and Vegeta seemed familiar with Namekians once arriving on Earth. They don't directly mention that they needed to go to Namek. 6) A revolt against Frieza, starting with one of the Frieza controlled planets. Whether they planned an immediate revolt or to have a 4th Saiyan to help them with the workload given by Frieza (same workload, but more time for plotting against Frieza). 7) An unnamed planet that was a "high bounty," that was later conquered by another Frieza Forces team.

I think Raditz came to Earth to get another Saiyan to overthrow Freeza. Maybe initially, the plan was to recruit the very last known Saiyan survivor to increase their chances but once Raditz and Goku took each other out, Vegeta and Nappa thought they were just low level trash not worthy of being revived obviously. And the opportunity of immortality presented itself when Piccolo told Raditz about the Dragon Balls.

Vegeta and Nappa were well aware of Namek and probably didn't want to bring someone like Raditz along since his power level was about as powerful as a Saibamen. At the most they needed a army of saiyan's about 3K each in power level to conquer Namek. Yardrat makes more sense to invade.

Yeah, it’s definitely a plot inconsistency. If the people on the planet are strong enough to give Vegeta difficulty, then adding raditz, Goku, and nappa who are all exponentially weaker than vegeta wouldn’t help him at all. They established this even in dragon ball with Goku vs piccolo jr. They said that even if tien, Yamaha, and krillin teamed up they wouldn’t be able to take down piccolo because he’s too powerful. When a being in their world is exponentially more powerful, it apparently doesn’t matter how many lower level people you get to team up against them. So I guess we could assume the story raditz is telling Goku is a lie to try and convince him to leave, or it’s just a plot inconsistency, which there seemed to be a few during the Raditz episodes.

Power level usually involves speed too, not just strength… Yet a guy with a power level around 1,000 (Yajirobe) was able to get behind Vegeta and cut off his tail “breaking through his defense” as the guy in the video phrases it, but Vegeta’s power level is supposed to be like 180,000?? Lol Also the part with Vegeta squeezing Goku, he should’ve instantly crushed Goku to dust if his power level was at 180,000 or anywhere close, while Goku’s base power level was only 8,000 and probably much lower after being weakened so much. I think part of the problem was them assigning a 10x increase from the oozaru form… while it helps the plot make sense in terms of the saiyans conquering planets and helps give a reason for why Frieza would deem them a “threat”. In the Goku vs Vegeta fight, Vegeta’s oozaru form power really doesn’t represent him being anywhere close to 10x power level increase. It’s more just like his strength increased to the level that his weight/mass increased. Which would be significant, but not 180,000 power level.

A lot of the fanbase also interprets the oozaru transformation to negate any battle damage, but I recall Vegeta making a big deal that he had to use some of his energy to make the artificial moon, on top of being severely damaged from Goku. On top of that, when Vegeta transformed, he was still toying with Goku. Also Puar cut off Goku's tail when he should've been godly in comparison to nearly everyone in the Pilaf arc when transformed, so it's not too inconsistent. Also like how Krillin cut a chunk off Freeza's tail, despite being weaker than his first form.

One thing that Raditz got wrong is "ill-trained." Just on base skill alone Goku has Raditz beat. Yes he lost his tail, but before that Goku trained his tail. So even if Goku was in the crew he would have grown stronger easily just based on him not having that weakness. Plus just in martial arts alone Goku and Piccolo could at least survive a great deal of time against Raditz compared to if the difference in power level was flipped. If it was, Piccolo could finish Raditz off in a single blitz and finisher before Raditz could against Goku and Piccolo.

true but at that point Raditz had basically a bit more than a 2 to 1 power advantage. Hence why he needed Piccolo (jr technically, its just that since Demon king Piccolo was gone he simply preferred the nickname of "Piccolo" rather than his true name. Without that neither Goku nor Piccolo could take out Raditz without Oozaru or significant others help (basically the Z fighters) Simply put brawn would of made up for brains in that 1 v 1 fight.

it was either Yardrat or Namek. With Yardrat, Vegeta having knowledge of the planet, and knowing that the Ginyu's were involved branches enough characters that it could've been Yardrat. It's likely it could've been just the Saiyans getting ready for Yardrat. The planet having dealt with the Ginyu's excuses why they were willing to help Goku. Especially if they knew he killed Freiza.

What I don't understand is that if Goku was sent in to conquer and sell Earth...who wanted to buy it? And if Frieza didn't care enough to even send backup for 20 years, why didn't Raditz just say...EARTH was a better planet to populate. The inhabitants are weak, the food is abundant, and the women are humanoid so they could take wives.

The power must have been stronger than the power of Vegeta, Nappa and Radditz Ozaru forms combined but not Vegeta, Nappa, Radditz and Goku's combined so somewhere between 18,000 and 235,000 that's pretty strong for early Dragon Ball as numbers like that didn't appear until the Namek Saga. However it's stated that the Ginyu Force are the ones usually sent to such places so either it was purely the idea of Vegetas group or the Natives power levels weren't individually high enough to warrant action from Ginyu. The only ones really strong enough to make someone with that kind of power cautious would be the Nameks or Yardrats the other species don't seem quite as powerful and Radditz power was considered average outside of weaker planets like Earth.

@@sinelacico823 Yajirobe is one of the more potent warriors on Earth and remember, that was after Vegeta had already fought Goku in his Kaioken state and gotten a free trip on a Kamehameha wave, so he was a lot weaker when he transformed than normal. Vegeta and Nappa both being at full strength and using the transformation means they outclass all but a handful of beings in the entire universe. Add to that at any time Vegeta or Nappa could always erase an entire continent in their base forms without really trying and again, it's hard to imagine a scenario where Pre Raditz Goku is much help.

You know, based on everything we see in Dragon Ball, I thinks it’s pretty unlikely Goku could’ve conquered the earth if he hadn’t hit his head. Like, an untrained and primal goku? Kami, Master Roshi, the Ox King, Grampa Gohan, Tao pi pi, king piccolo, the RR generals… not like they would all band together, but they’d all eventually have a vested interest to intervene in Goku’s monkey rampage when the time came. As an adult, he only had a base power of like, 350? and that was after exclusively training as a kid and teen, through the entirety of Dragon Ball.

There's a mistake in your reasoning at about the 10:40 mark. If Frieza had the Ginyu force attempting to conquer Yardrat the Sayajins would not be the first reinforcements. He would of sent in his elites Cui, Dodoria and Zarbon first as they were his strongest known minions that even came close to Ginyu force levels. Bear in mind that without the namek saga happening they would be alive and well still. Freeza would not of trusted the sayajins (esp Vegeta and Nappa) enough knowing their potential with the Oozaru transformation. Failing that and probably a bunch of his other cannon fodder men Freeza himself would of eventually stepped up to conquer Yardrat if they failed (and thus his more powerful forms). Now if that was to succeed or not that's up to debate. But Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta and Goku would of been on earth or elsewhere. You have to remember Frieza's distrust of the sayajins and fear of the then theoretical (which was proven in cannon to be true) SSJ (albeit not legendary SSJ which may of been a exaggerated legend from a Freeza race ancestor)

But another point is that wouldn't usually be Frieza's style. As demonstrated in multiple ways (namek, both earth invasions, and GT escape from hell) its Frieza's style to send out the weak cannon fodder forces first (Frieza considers the majority of his forces expendable, aka cannon fodder save for the stronger ones, and even they are expendable) Realistically the planet would of been full of Frieza forces plus the elites and Ginyu force (just like namek was). Unless he had scouter readings before hand then he'd have combined ranges of forces including himself as the top of the top He would of had to of been pretty desperate to call in even the Sayajins (basically their planet conquering missions were not just financial resource gain for Frieza, but also a attempt to get them to suicide eventually, which did work with some unnamed sayajins)

far more likely that it was some un named planet, or more likely the planet the ginyu force came from rather then where they were going, it basically couldn't have been yardrat because the saiyans were planning to conquer it over a year and a half ago by the time the namek saga rolls around.. add to that the fact that vegeta's oozaru form would be 180,000 relative to ginyu's 120,000, i kind of doubt the ginyu force could have handled whatever planet vegeta had his sights on... raditz and nappa as oozaru were stronger then the two weakest members of the ginyu force, raditz would be stronger then guldo and nappa would match recoome.
