Before I even watched this video I can already answer your question. Have a clean driving record, don’t do drugs and be decently clean. The bar for entry here in Washington state for new construction residential especially is so low because there honestly looking for anyone at this point because plumbers are hard to find so they will take new guys to train with zero experience in hopes they will turn into good workers.

So does "Clean driving record" mean no accidents even if it wasn't your fault? As for no drugs I mean I doubt most places care so long as you just show up at the job sober. Sure lot if jobs require you to get a drug test before they hire you or employ you. Yet honestly they only have to for state laws and really could give less of a crap if you say you smoke pot so long as you don't smoke it or do an edible during work hours. There is a law in my state where weed isn't even legal that your job can't ask you about your private life. So if my boss was to ask if I drink or do drugs during work hours or even visit my house and see me drunk or high and then tell anyone else at work I could legally sue them.

@@SharkBait19904can they legally require a same-day drug/alcohol test if someone’s negligence results into someone getting injured on the job, or ends up in a accident while driving a commercial vehicle? And and can they legally terminate someone’s employment if that test comes back positive during any of those events?

I watched your videos when I first started plumbing. I still love the trade but the honest brutal truth is how to get hired these days in 99% of companies is to show you can sell Jobs all day long, most companies are looking for salesman first and a plumber second. It's painful on the homeowner side too since most homeowners assume that we are just out to screw them over and make as much as possible because of how 99% of these companies operate.

I agree. Most of these big fancy companies are more of a salesmanship enterprise than actually there to fix stuff. When I do my work, I just want to fix what is needed and make sure the customers are satisfied with good quality work. 😊

I had an interview at an out of state local and I wore a suit and tie and there were probably 10-12 guys there interviewing me and they all went "ooooh look he's wearing a suit" I think they were kind of ribbing me but actually liked it and I just went "yeah, I'm fancy like that and I'm going to wear this suit to every job, but it's probably gonna smell nasty after a couple weeks" and they just started laughing. I got an email back saying how much they loved me and I start in about 6 weeks. It's going to be rough financially because for the first 2 years I'll have to take a haircut, but I told my wife that if I can get to about $70K annually I can really provide a nice life for us and she won't have to work. As of their current contract a brand new journeyman makes $105K after dues (how ironic is exactly 1.5 times what I told her) and they said they're hurting so much no one makes scale, everyone is way above.

Sorry. I'm not wearing a freaking suit. Or a dress and high heels...would that be the expectation for a woman, a tradeswoman? That seems ridiculous to me. I am one of a small percentage of women who've worked to earn a plumbers license, and i already am very visible/isolated. So the idea of wearing Sunday best type clothing feels awful to me, and a great way to be immediately judged and ostracized

***not to mention sexually objectified*** I'd like to keep it blue collar professional. I know the guys are gonna say stupid sh*t eventually, but I'm not about to encourage that attitude

You just made me imagine a company called something like "Tuxedo Plumbing" and all the plumbers doing jobs strictly in business suits. Basically imagine the Allstate Mayhem guy getting sprayed in the face, waist deep in water just wrenching on some pipes. Lmao.
