Looking it up it seems like it’s 1 in 50 Americans which is still more people than I’d expect because that’s a lot of money

I’m with Charlie they are two different skills. But I think the intersection of poker players that can also make 300k/yr outside poker is relatively small. Poker players skew to be very individualistic and not work well within common bureaucratic systems/organizations. I think most poker players would do poorly in corporate America due to personality incompatibility.

200K household income is the top 3.65%. 300K individual is more like the top 1%. Doesn't actually change that the vast majority of 300K warmers went through professional school, so 4 years undergrad, 4 years of (for example) med school, and 3-7 years of residency, so, you know, 11-15 years of training. And yes, if you put that kind of time, years, and dedication into poker, I suspect you could hit similar numbers. But it's a poor comparison.

AR does not stand for assault rifle. It’s an abbreviation of the original manufacturers name. Love your poker content. Also can you make like a 3 minute version of the intro song please

I went from being successful at poker during the boom (i know big fn deal right) to being successful in business. Bankroll management was probably the poker skill the helped me grow my business from nothing into what it is today. Poker allowed me to travel all around the world and I am thankful for it, but I don't miss it.

the amount of people actually making a true living off poker is so incredibly small. also game selection is truly the most important thing when you’re talking about making 200k+ /year playing poker.

i completely agree. do you think it's harder to make $100k/yr playing poker, or $300k a year outside poker?
@lmrbeerbellyl
@lmrbeerbellyl 6 ай бұрын
@@hungryhorsepoker only 4% of american households earn 300k or more a year and many of those are dual income households. Your 1 in 20 number in the video was way off. I'd wager less than 2% of people are earning 300k+ a year, which i I still think is more than poker players making 100K+ just playing poker.

The most interesting video I've seen in a while!! Where is the $335,000 stat from? 5% sounds high to me!! I guess this average includes the Mark Zuckerbergs of America so presumably isn't a weighted average? Maybe taking a weighted average or median would feel more realistic to me, as 5% sounds so high 😂

The reason fewer poker players succeed than doctors and lawyers succeed in their respective careers is because most poker players study very little or not at all, and what little they do study is difficult to comprehend because they arent being taught in an academic way such as a student in medical school would be. Becoming a doctor or engineer is vastly more difficult than becoming a successful poker player, they just have much better tools at their disposal to get there hence the higher percentage of success professional white collar workers.

IMO it's no harder to teach poker than it is to teach math. But the average person is no more incentivized to learn, and CONTINUE learning, poker than they are math. Slightly more people know how to solve a quadratic equation than a poker situation, but that is because high schools are required to teach EVERYONE Algebra, and they do NOT teach poker.

"It is not how much you make. It is how much you borrow that counts". Called LEVERAGE Try going into a bank and asking for a loan after telling the bank manager you are a professional poker player. LOL. Any gamble or investment that limits or restricts your turnover or limits your borrowings is horrible. Poker is one of the worst .Great if you have 2K to your name and holes in your jeans. You are flat out finding a 10-20 in some casinos and any higher you are playing against the very best. Chasing the fish to the bottom is not the answer.

Can you all give your view on playing tournaments or cash game for a living to make that 100k or 300k
@hungryhorsepoker
@hungryhorsepoker 6 ай бұрын
you're talking to 2 guys who have made a living playing cash games so we are going to be biased. but we find it is MUCH easier to make $100k playing live cash CONSISTENTLY year over year than it is in tournaments. tournaments you may have a big score once in awhile, but you need to be playing a LOT of high buy ins to make 6 figures consistently. you can be just an average winner who works hard and make $100k+ playing live cash every year.
