Books, books , books. Especially how to books with good color illustrations. I had to get rid of an entire library to make room for my husband when we got married and I regret it all the time. I m not a quick learner and need to read things over and over but with books its all possible.

I’m one of those people who lives alone… Grandkids are too busy to visit. No family ever stops by… I try to stay active, yet if I do anything around my home. I have to be very careful to not get hurt… Just yesterday, watering my garden… I had a snake just pop up beside me. No hoe in hand or anything 😳 After yrs of loneliness, you get use to being alone. I talk to JESUS a lot ☺️ I have a Dog & lots of KZbinrs, like yourself !!! With out a phone, it would be difficult… We will manage though !!! We’ve gotten too reliant on our devices… Yrs ago people only visited once or twice a yr. My Bible is always here & I Pray this Country can get back to basic necessities… Love your Channel 🥰 Until the next one 😉💞🇺🇸

Yes! Our church gave away about 50 hymnals that were “old”. I took every one of them. It’s amazing what people give away just because it’s a little worn.

Here in north Alabama one thing I learned years ago was prepare for no power etc.. I had five kids at home when the hurricane came thru and took our power for a week… we kept things going by having puzzles, books, etc… Fast forward during c… I have cancer and an auto immune deficiency. I couldn’t leave the house… it was an eye opener… my kids all work in the medical field between nursing homes and fire departments.. they were around so many people that they couldn’t come and by except for they would stand on the porch and talk to me thru the window.. it was so hard… I am a stay at home wife.. it’s just me and my husband now.. no matter how prepared you think you are for this it will affect you. To this point I still have panic attacks when I am out and about.. with my medical issues I have to wear a mask and you would be surprised at how rude people can be when they see that mask…

You hit the nail on the head. I'm one of those new faces and ever so glad to have found this community. We moved to our homestead four years ago. I am a bit of a homebody so I thought this would be a piece of cake. I love to sew and craft and knit and crochet. I love tending to the animals. After 27 years with one company, my husband was looking for another job. He ended up accepting a position with a company that has him traveling and gone 4-6 weeks at a time. There have been times we lost cell service out here due to storms, etc. It's no easy task being alone and touch deprivation is a real thing. I'm a hugger. 😂 We intentionally chose the no TV route and I don't miss it. Don't have time for it anyway. Quiet and solitude - well, that's great in moderation. Everybody needs someone to talk to and an occasional hug...and snagging a free piano would be awesome.

Hubby and myself were talking this afternoon that as kids,if mom ran out of eggs,flour,sugar,etc.she would send me to a neighbor lady with a measuring cup and ask to borrow flour or sugar. It was no problem,the women in our little subdivision did that all the time. These days,people would think you were goofy doing that.

Where we live(Idaho) we have a few good neighbors and we are so grateful because they keep an eye on our place and we do theirs and when we have needed help, they have been there. Things are so crazy in this world and I am so glad you brought up this topic and also it is a good reminder of the main things. Showing each other kindness, love and understanding. My husband and I have said this many times. That, if and when the grid goes down , there is going to be so many people, young and old, who are not going to know what to do with themselves without having a phone...Cell phones are convenient, but things have definately gotten way out of hand....God bless you and your husband dear. And thank you for all your doing to help. I love your channel...Sherri-Payette Idaho

You're right😊 i watch several homesteading or "prepping" channels and ive never heard any of them talk about this. It is huge. We were stuck for 5 days during a historic flood in 2011. We were not dependent on social media back then. AM radio a local station was the only way we could get news of what was happening. They even had to set up temporary location because of the flood. Keep up the food work!

Thanks so much! I try to talk about things “off the wall”, but in reality they usually are just the basic problems everyone may encounter at some point instead of just “buy buy buy, stock up stock up stock up”. ❤️👍glad y’all were okay during that flood!

I did think of this because of 2020. I have 3 teens. I have been preparing to keep us all busy. My house is full of crafts, art supplies, yarn, crossword puzzles, cards, puzzles, many many different types of things to do. I also have many hand tools (no power needed). We are homesteaders too. I feel prepared mentally too. However I know I will be the one my kids lean on so I need to be strong for them.

I dont play an instrument or have any talent but i have thought about picking up an old guitar, harmonica, banjo...,🤷. Seems like in the old days families entertained themselves a lot with music.
@harmonhomestead74342 ай бұрын
Yes! Our family was very musical. Every family photo prior to the 50s on one side of our family had someone at a piano or holding a banjo. I am self taught on the banjo, mandolin, and guitar. It is extremely easy. Try to get Hal Leonard’s beginner guides for whichever instrument you choose, and I promise you will learn. I took almost a decade of piano lessons, and I can’t remember a thing, and I still don’t play very well. But with these self taught books, I’m able to play and have fun.

Tractor supply has excellent instructional books on multiple subjects. I have at least six of those books for “just in case”. I have no doubt that our infrastructure will be targeted, including our Internet, and we will be sitting at the house and not able to communicate or get outside information. I feel very sorry for the city dwellers. Those people will suffer the most. I too have a musical instrument that I enjoy playing.

I understand! I have found some online sermons from around the US that I really enjoyed. It made me feel like I was there in the audience, but mainly I was hearing The Word. But I do agree, once you strike out on your own and homestead, many people think that your way of life doesn’t mesh with theirs so it’s a social split.
