Hi PF. How are you doing? I am still alive, but busy seeing doctors, etc. I enjoy all your programs. You make me laugh sometimes. When I was young I was always making funny remarks and making all my friends laugh. They said ,”I should write for Jay Leno, Ha,Ha, Well, I really doubt it, but I hadn’t become an adult with all the problems that brings. Well I want them to release the stuff in moderation too like princes friend said but what I mean by lost to to the world is there is plenty of music from great artist we will never hear because of their estate so Prince would not want any one to sit on his vault but release it. Prince clearly made a devision, like the ever gemini he was, to show the dark and the light within him and us. Camille, a mischievous long lost cousin, to the Lovesexy Prince. If you don't take the negative IN to see the POSITIVE LIGHT, then you're not being honest about prince's work, life and music. He always played with hate and love to show love is the way, but acknowledged the ying and the yang of negativity and positivity so you can discover it for yourself and control it. Creepers I don't know why fans and friend don't get this. It's beyond my comprehension honestly. It's all over his music and bands, down to his clothing. If there were not Black Album, no trip to the fall, there would be no stone to the RE-birth on Lovesexy/Rave 89/GB! Dig!?!?!

I care for the siblings a lot. I do believe that sticking to prince's morals and ethical conviction is important. Paisley Park is not just a building to rent out for parties. I believe prince's soul is there if it's anywhere on earth. I strongly feel that we should keep his spirit respected and appreciated there.

I think the vegetarianism was hugely progressive and he never went back on that. I think from a business perspective maybe alcohol will be a deal breaker for many so in order to survive maybe Paisley has to allow it but in the end the alcohol consumption is to the detriment of society.

When Prince said that he knows that, "someone will" eventually release what's in the vault, I believe he knew that whatever comes out most likely won't be exactly as he would have wanted. He knew he would have no control over that. But I would like the former band mates to have a say in how the future releases are put out. People like Dez Dickerson, Andre Cymone, Wendy and Lisa for example.
@PrincesFriend

With all due respect to both you and any of the people who once worked with Prince back in the day, if I was going to win trust his future records to anyone it would most likely be the people who worked with him later in his career, as they would probably have a clear vision of what he would want to do in the now as opposed to back in the 80s

💜People trapped in the 80s Please!!! The people you named weren't as involved in the creating of his music as you want to believe. They were his employees. They did what they were told to do and then Prince would move on to other employees. By his fifty's he was even more educated on music then he was in his late teens and early twenties. So the people that worked for him in the 2000s would definitely possess more knowledge of where he wanted his music to go in the future as well as knowledge of Prince's music from the past. Like the young man who co- produced with Prince on some of his later work. Honestly I just trust the people in his present more than I do the people from his past. The people from his past tend to piggyback on Prince's success. With the Prince music that exist in the vault that we've never heard, how do we know that the people from the past won't try to put their own name onto his work that they had nothing to do with or very little to do with. They do that now! Two people had for years claimed that they contributed to the making of the song When Doves Cry. Thanks finally to a good reporter who was looking for the truth and not dirt, they were finally forced to admit that they had absolutely nothing to do with the making of that classic song. With Prince gone it would just be way too tempting to take credit where credit isn't due by the people in the past. So maybe we should give the people who worked for him last a chance.... though I will admit that the possibility of it happening with them as well is there too. Maybe we should take a chance with people who are musical geniuses in their own right as well as being close friends of Prince. Like Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan. I don't believe that they would tamper with the originality of Prince's work or take credit where it wasn't due. 💜

Prince was a complicated man, I don’t think anybody truly knew him. I kind of agree that Prince’s rule of no alcohol and no cell phones should be honored. It was important to him and it can open up a conversation why he felt that way. I feel like he was enlightened in the true sense of the word, and we can learn from him. I’m not saying he was perfect, he was a flawed human being like all of us.

rachel pennington I totally agree! I believe people who actually worked with him had difficulty knowing what he wanted while he was alive. A former sound engineer, I believe said in an interview (and correct me if I’m wrong) “Prince doesn’t know what he wants, but he knows what he don’t want”. Now if that’s true, that’s pretty broad! I feel the more we learn about Prince, we realize he changes his mind a lot. That’s refreshing and in my opinion, gives freedom for the estate.

Paisley Park is a unique situation in that "what he would have wanted" is at the core of maintaining authenticity. We want it to be maintained in an authentic fashion that will allow us to visit and experience the echo of the creative force that once inhabited it. There is no other physical location (studio, house, office, whatever) that can do that -- that can *be* that. We take comfort in its existence because it allows us to believe that a part of him is still with us. The part of me that still mourns Prince, that remembers how his creative peak profoundly shaped my formative years -- that part doesn't want Paisley Park to change one bit. But on the other hand, the idea of it becoming like Graceland or an inert diorama like a Mount Vernon or a Monticello makes me terribly sad. (Not that either path would be financially sustainable for Paisley Park over the long haul.) If Paisley Park is to thrive and have a long-term future -- and if it is to truly commemorate the artist -- it should evolve to become a vital, living center for creative expression. It should become a shining mecca that summons artists and musicians of all kinds to come and explore their craft. What better way to honor a man whose greatest achievement was to show us all that there are no limits to the magnificence of human creativity? If that requires change (doorknobs included), so be it.

I have a lot of my own personal thoughts as well. If prince was the master of his destiny, what if this is exactly what he wanted? What if he left no will for a reason? But even if it was destroyed, it doesn’t really change where we’re at right now. We have to operate without one regardless.

Please keep in mind something. That at one point in time, Tyka was homeless. Skipper, lived in a mansion he paid for her to live somewhere else. He also directed his assistant not to put, Tyka's calls through to him. This is easily verified by listening to the depositions on You Tube. They are very revealing. I know he loved his family. He was kind, and loving.

I adore the idea of a Prince music club with annual releases of new music...bring it on. As for what “Prince wanted”, he should have stuck around so he could tell us, but since he didn’t others get to chose what is “best”. That’s how ‘not having a will’ works. Those of us watching this, should take note and make arrangements so that the same thing doesn’t happen to us and our own personal legacies. There is a lot to be learned from his mistakes, or lack of action.

It would be cool actually for the estate to do what Prince did back for Crystal Ball Vol II, where he gave a list of songs and people would vote what would be on the record. The estate could do that with their website and I'm sure it would be a fun way to bring a vault compilation album or any sort of album into fruition based off of what the fans want.

Prince definitely didn't like his tracks being bootlegged when he was alive, because that was a loss in profit. He also didn't want to go back and remaster his old albums because he didn't want to live in the past. Sadly, Prince now IS in the past and those concerns no longer matter. Those vault tracks and remasters are the thing that will allow his legacy and his legend to continue.

I wholeheartedly agree with you, despite the fact that I must confess that my everlasting love and admiration for Him misguided me to unfortunately be part of the "haters", mainly because I didn't think any members of his family deserved to inherit any part of his very, very hard earned money. But, it is what it is. In the absence of a will, or a current legal spouse, they are the ones. I now realize what a HUMONGOUS job for them this must be, specially since none of them were ever really a part of their brother's music business, nor business oriented people. Their responsibility to keep his legacy afloat is HUGE. I hope, for Prince's sake, they all get well documented and are guided to make the right choices.

Well then he could have ALSO changed his mind from that 1999 interview about how his music would STILL be released after he dies!!!! PEOPLE!!!!! Who fought with the Industry for almost, if not THREE decades because he didn't want his music played with EXACTLY the way it's being played with NOW!!!!???? And the labels were paying BIG DOLLARS to him but, it was about his intellectual property rights, masters, etc!!! Not about a popular vote, or assumptions! Prince's actions spoke louder than WORDS (Wills) MOST of his entire life and showed us how he felt about things like the crap we see with his legacy that are actually going on NOW, right up to the day he died!!!!!! He didn't change and NOWHERE did we see That Genius, and EXTREMELY private and CONTROLLING (when it came to his ideas/music) Artist, back track or relent on how he felt about anyone else, having the rights to just release his music any old kind of way!!! That's a DEFINITE!!!! So when Prince's "Friend" says that we don't know if he would have changed his mind or could have.....really? Really? Really? If you truly respect what Prince accomplished and what he was, you'd know better than that and be truthful about how he truly was and felt about controlling and making sure HE said what happens to his music. So STOP playing dumb! To say the things said on here to justify the mess that's going on, is totally not who he was ever about and we ALL know it!! IJS! SMH!!!

I don’t believe you would know truth if it jumped up and bit your arse, you are a very troubled individual who clearly thinks the world should agree with your delusional idea of who Prince was and what he was all about, you didn’t know him and have no idea what he would have wanted and you ignore what he stated about his music being released after his death because even his wishes don’t fit your idea of what he should have wanted, how sick is that, get yourself some mental health help ASAP and try to learn how to live in the real world instead of your imaginary one it’s really a dangerous place to be!!! Though I am not a fan of “the Estate” and how certain things are going down, I’m just happy to get some Prince. I don’t like certain people in his family but I also don’t like people in my own family lol. The bottom line is that some of us are really sad about Prince not being here and it’s expressing itself as anger. I plan on living to 99 years old and than plan included Prince to be rocking out through it all. He was so very important to me and I’ll miss him forever so I’m just choosing gratitude that we had him for as long as we did ☔️

Glad you brought this all up, Prince's Friend. Agree with your points here. Another thing I'm interested in your take on is about how Prince presented himself, and how his friends have viewed him. A key element of Prince's persona was a mystique-presenting himself as something of a man of mystery. So people trying to determine what he wants after his death? And as you mentioned there's the key talking point of the lack of a will? Any Prince friend trying to determine what his intentions would be now would merely be a frustrating experience. All we can gather from him personally is that "I'll protect my legacy while I live. But after death, my legacy is free on the winds". That's all he really every provided, like with that interview you mentioned where he said after he died, his vault music would just be released. So since that's what we have, and as you said? All anyone whose expert at music industry legalities can do is just make the most positive choices they can for his legacy.

I think it’s all well and fine to have personal thoughts on what should be done, because I don’t agree 100% with every decision that the prince estate has made, but at the same time as soon as Prince was removed from the equation a lot of things have to be handled in a different way than when he was here. Without a will and without his touring, which is where the majority of his money came from, a lot of things need to change in order to keep it all going.

Great topic, Prince is personal to all who Loved who he was, I feel everyone should surround his spirit with Love & respect. We all think we Love Prince more than anyone, we are all a bigger fan than anyone...and It's ok, it draws new people in. I feel confident that many things have already happened that he wouldn't have wanted, but I don't think he would be mad. I say this because I recently re-watched the Larry King interview, LK is not good at interviewing Prince but maybe because of that, it was a neat conversation. Maybe I overanalyze but there are moments of what seem to be Prince letting his guard down, mainly in regards to his mannerisms. Whenever he speaks about situations that weren't fair or ethical, with WB records, bootleggers or the internet, he doesn't harbor anger or hate, he may not have approved of how his music was handled, and he fought for what he felt was fair & just but he still had Love for one another. If anyone wants to understand Prince as much as humanly possible, it's pretty much all laid out in his lyrics. right?

As far as 2nd guessing what Prince would’ve wanted concerning his unreleased music and Paisley Park...I’m with you. Who knows? Most folks make decisions and frequently change their minds. That is part of being human. Prince could have wanted it all released one day then changed his mind the next or vice a versa. Anyhow, I hope I can get To Paisley this year to pay homage to the musician whose music was a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. These first few years I felt it was too soon 4 me. I agree with you! Every time news comes out I just brace for the WWPW crowd to chime in, usually with negativity. I believe the best we can do evaluate each thing (book, album release, changes at Paisley Park) as it relates to being something that acts to further the tremendous legacy of Prince. We want to hear from people who genuinely knew him. We want to hear vault music. We want to be able to go to Paisley Park. All these things only happen with decisions made by someone other than Prince. I chose to look for the positivity and avoid the negative naysayers. It is also ironic to me that most of the negative WWPW naysayers seem to know exactly what Prince would want never even met the man. They often pull from some lyric, interview or statement made at one point in his life, regardless of the fact that he changed his mind and actions throughout his life. Thank you for an insightful discussion on this topic.

I only read a couple of books won't say which ones. I rather buy his music. Remain positive, and keep listening to the songs I love. So far what is being released is OK. The whole purpose is as prince friends' to keep loving him.and appreciate what he has left. And honor his legacy. I remember one interview when asked if he'd ever release what's in the vault, he smiled said I won't but somebody else will. Meaning he knew they would be released. I don't think he had a problem with it. I'm glad bunks are coming back but then they never really left. It be cool if they re did his early music on funk and maybe include a poster. The money made will insure his legacy live on and paisley park will remain open. If the locks was changed it means they are trying to preserve what's inside. Let's face it somebody would try get in and steal lot of his personal things.he rewrote a couple took the curse words out.he'd changed.I respect that. That mean those under age can listen to his songs.and the parents won't have issues with that. Let's just love and appreciate what he has done and continue to love his music. I know I will. These people have a wealth of information about this mostly mysterious man who I think we can all better understand by embracing what his friends and associates have to say, now. Like you say, Prince no longer needs protection or even privacy. For the most part everyone did respect his privacy while he was alive. If those who want to share their experiences with us I fully support that. Who’s to say whether he’d approve or not but in effect it’s keeping his legacy alive and that’s a good thing. I base my opinions only on interviews I’v seen of prince & what he had to say about the handling of his music, paisley park, & his legacy. And yes I saw that same interview were he actually said that someone else will release his unreleased music once he’s gone. My thoughts are that I would like to see Princes estate handled according to how he described in interviews, such as paisley park becoming a museum, and that appears to be happening, so I’m glad about that. Other than that I can’t say what else he would want, since there was allegedly no paper will found. It would be pretty interesting if he left a will in the form of a unreleased song, singing about his final wishes. As far as his family, I still don’t care for his sister ( Tyka) based solely on her interviews that I’v watched. These feelings go way back long before he died. However, prince is no longer here, so we all as fans & friends are just gonna have to hope for the best with the outcome of his estate & legacy, & just keep enjoying the awesome music that’s being released, And that’s my peace.👍🏻

Prince knew what he wanted while he was incarnated and bent his reality to mold as closely what he envisioned. It is marvelous but it is also ego. We all do it. He is now in homeland and when you visit Paisley Park or listen to his music, etc. it is a personal journey. Yes his essence is there but it evolves something in us that comes from our journey and experience. He wanted us to have have Peace, Joy and Love. What he would want isn’t really relevant. He knew that this earth was flawed, materialistic and skewed. You really think he thought his wishes would be honored anyway on this plantation? Maybe leaving it all to his sister Tyka would have put undo pressure and a target on her. Also too many heirs sounds like too many chiefs and not enough Indians, so to speak, which he was not a fan of. Just my insight. ☮️ peace

On bootleggers, that’s an interesting point to make. Conversations I’ve had with a few people close to Prince in his later years, he was a lot more focused on moving forward than to fighting bootleggers. He was trying to find ways to incorporate those fans into new ways to get music out. It just never happened. He didn’t want his music on KZbin, not because he hated KZbin, but he didn’t agree with the money they give to video owners. It was the same argument against music streaming services and why he went with tidal. But that all works only if Prince is alive. Without his touring money, which was the majority of his income, then the estate has to make choices that Prince wouldn’t have to.
