I really admire how you feed all you animals biologically. I attempted raw once with my last dog, but it was during college and I was under educated and overwhelmed, so I ended up going with the highest quality dry food I could afford and she was healthy and energetic up until the day she died at 13 years old. But for my next dog I really want to feed raw so I am trying to do a lot of research before hand and get myself prepared. My biggest struggle mentally is getting everything balanced and trying to source everything. The other challenge is the cost and trying to wrap my mind around and prepare my budget for that cost over a bag of dog food. But I try to source the best food for myself and I want to do the same for my dog. I wish I had switched to raw with my last dog, but we can't change the past only try better in the future.

Ok, after you got all the raw out for your pets, and set out all their dishes (and paper towel) and then said Oh, and I'm feeding 2 cotton tail bunnies too, I immediately had a flash of the killer bunny scene from Monte Python.

I'm interested to know how you budget all your pets meals. I imagine getting those bugs and rabbit milk and other specialty things are expensive since they are hard to find.
@xonx30562 жыл бұрын
The things she used for the milk are small drops for a farm so I'd guess she could have them for free or as a add on for buying something else :) colostrum is valuable for farmers for raising the calves, but the calves drink 8 litres of it per day (maybe around 3-4 gallons) so what she needs for 2 baby buns is a drop. And bugs can be grown at home once you get a starter colonie. And they vary in price by how rare a speacies they are but you can get like 10-50 worms depending how quickly your pets use them, they will continually reproduce and cost maybe like 1-5€ for them.

Your cat and dog are so delicate when eating! My cat and dog just devour anything in their path if it's anything remotely meat related. If I give them some raw meat or even cooked meat, they practically inhale it! It is as an occasional treat though and they are on the standard diets. Dog on kibble and kitty on a combination of wet and dry. But they're still super happy and healthy.

@@Fuzzysea693 there's a big difference between the dog breeding scene and the ferret breeding scene. I just found this channel and am already loving it! Most animal channels have SO many pets that it is overwhelming to even watch. Half of them have animals die like reptiles and just replace with a look a like... I was temporarily captivated by all those animals and thought more is better. Ended up with waaaayy to many betta fish and fish in general. Downsized a lot and it is so much more manageable and am currently working on getting my axolotl to a healthy weight because I listened to uneducated people about proper care. Moved him from a 20 gallon tall to a 30 gallon. He has way more space and is a lot happier and healthier. ❤

So cute, sweet, and brave from my point of view. I'm afraid of not feeding a balanced enough diet for my kitties unless I buy an appropriately balanced food from someone that does the work as a professional endeavor. They follow a veterinarian guided regimine, grind it and ship it over. I add the vitamin pack and feed chicken neck chunks and fresh chunks of chicken and a thigh bone each once a week and lots of fresh filtered water on demand. Finding all the organs is not reliable where I live. Shoot, its hard to even buy chicken thighs with bone in.

I watched you’re earlier video after when you were still doing frankenpray for your Ferret. Am I correct that you’re only doing whole prey now? I know just doing whole prey is more money but I’d rather do that then frankenpray. My little kit gets a small mouse & some raw every morning, with a mix of ziwi peak lamb with a little Redford naturals freeze dried duck in his cage for when he wakes up from naps & overnight. I’d like to transition him to a completely whole prey diet but can’t find enough information on them to ensure he’s getting everything he needs which is my main concern. I’m thinking about ordering a bunch of different whole preys since we just got a second freezer, but I want to make sure I’m doing it right & cant really find enough info on strictly whole prey diets. If you’re only doing whole prey now could you make a video on that? It would be the only whole prey Ferret feeding video on KZbin as I haven’t found a single one yet. Much appreciated 🙏🏻
@taracornell90933 жыл бұрын
Hey! I’m not a KZbinr obviously, but I thought I’d chime in just in case you were still looking into feeding your ferret a strictly whole prey diet. In the wild, a ferret (or polecat) would be hitting all their nutritional bases by eating a wide variety of prey, and we as keepers of course try to emulate that best by feeding a variety of proteins. You could order a rotation of different whole prey sources from a retailer like RodentPro or Hare Today, but the tricky thing about doing this safely is the fact that these are “mill bred” animals. Basically, though they are kept up to standard, the rats, mice, chickens, guinea pigs, etc. that you’d be feeding from these places may be lacking essential nutrients that their wild prey counterparts would not be missing. This is because the farmed versions have a limited/non fresh diet (usually Mazuri, a dry feed), don’t get a lot of exercise, and don’t have access to real sunlight (hence a lack of Vitamin D, taurine, etc). So the best option if you were to feed exclusively WP would be to hunt and/or farm these prey animals yourself (or source them from a hunter or small scale farmer) so that you have more control and awareness over what your ferret is eating. I think this is a little excessive, and I don’t personally have the motivation or means to hunt or breed prey animals so I feed half whole prey from a trusted retailer (and from a local source I can rely on some of the time) and half “frankenprey” with supplements here and there. I’m just not comfortable feeding whole prey by itself for the aforementioned reasons, and I think ferrets really do benefit from eating things such as quality grinds, raw meaty bones, organs and muscle meats from an array of sustainably sourced, healthy animals even if these are not things they’d typically eat in the wild and require a little portioning. It’s easier for me to feel that my ferrets are getting as close to a balanced diet in captivity as possible this way. Anyway, I hope this helps! (If you read this novel 🤣)

@@taracornell9093 thank you so much for your very detailed & thought out response. I genuinely appreciate the knowledge & time you took to provide me this information. I have since had to stop feeding raw as I was sternly spoken to by several vets & doctors as I am severely immunodeficient & require high doses of immune replacement therapy weekly. It’s a real bummer for me to not be allowed to do this anymore but I have to take my own medical issues into consideration. I have since started feeding freeze dried raw as that’s where we compromised as that is at least a lower risk in terms of my health & I refuse to feed kibble. I simply don’t believe kibble no matter which one is a healthy diet. If you have any ideas on freeze dried raw for a ferret with food sensitivities I’d appreciate it. She seems to only be able to eat this freeze dried beef by raw paws without getting seedy poops, but I know a rotation of proteins is really important & would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you again 🙏🏻

I can try! It's sort of up to you depending on what you can find though as well as your pet's species, weight, age, and activity level!

Does nobody care about the faces of animals roaming around the house after they have a raw meal? I can't find anyone who addresses this. I want to do a raw diet for my cats but the invisible bacteria that must be left on the edges of their lips/mouths/chins/noses/what-have-you skeeves me out. Advice/tips/reassurances appreciated!

This is a common concern, but often not something to really worry about. Cats and dogs lick their butts after all, which can have just as much bacteria as raw food can! If you are worried, wash their face after each meal! This may be necessary for dog breeds with beards or long haired cats anyway.

@@PawsofPrey yeah, I'm also not a fan of the buttlicking behavior. I keep all animals away from my face for that reason. 😂 😂 😜
