It’s a lot harder than I expected but I’ve found some online businesses. I guess the restrictions in America are a bit more relaxed about what can and can’t be used for pet food lol.

Can you feed while mice to dogs and cats as well? I know you don’t because they didn’t get used to while prey when they were young, but is there any other reason not to?

I'm a little late on the video, I have not been online for a bit, catching up on all your videos! Amazing as always :D I wanted to ask you a quick question, I see you gave Choji some kelp, vitamin E, yeast and trace mineral drops, as well as the mention of blue lipped mussles and oysters. I am part of some holistic groups for ferrets and raw feeding, but I have not been able to get much information on supplements for ferrets, I also have 3 raw fed dogs, so I use those supplements for them, but I have not added them to my ferret's meals. How much of the supplements do you feed, or can you redirect me to a guide where I can see see how much to feed my little guys? I would love to add some supplements, I feel like the traditional ferret raw meals in groups have some nutritional gaps. I do feed a lot of whole prey, but I would like to add some supplements on days where I don't feed whole prey. Thank you so much!
@PawsofPrey2 жыл бұрын
Hey! :) So I feed choji a few different meal "types". Some days I feed DIY, some days I feed PMR grinds, some days I feed balanced grinds, some days I feed whole prey. Whole prey is a staple, but I rotate the other 3. For this week, I was giving whole prey and PMR grinds. He may arguably get enough of the missing nutrients in PMR from whole prey, but I truly only added the tiniest bit since it was making up 50% of his daily intake that week. If you feed whole prey, most people in the holistic ferret community would say these additions aren't necessary. Unfortunately we don't have established ferret guidelines so many ferret owners use NRC kitten guidelines for them. I was playing safe than sorry here since he's a growing kit and needs these essential nutrients for growth and development.

I love seeing these types of videos! Theyre very relaxing. But I would be incredibly careful giving kelp to choji, as ferret nutritional guidelines are not established yet and though they are obligate carnivores like cats, they are still very much different species, and since they are such little animals, it could take very little to overdose them. Because you feed whole prey so often, you really should have no need for extra iodine, or extra b vitamins. Please be careful!
@PawsofPrey3 жыл бұрын
Yes, Choji gets kelp once a week (and I'm saying maybe 50 mcg), if that. Because he gets a lot of whole prey, so I can almost guarantee he gets most of the iodine he needs from that, but since he's a kit, and we use kitten guidelines for adults, my thoughts are that he could benefit from a tiny bit now and then. Any extra water-soluble B vitamins are excreted in the urine, but of course too much of anything isn't good. This isn't a daily thing, but since I was feeding single protein grinds of only bone, muscle meat, heart, and liver I was boosting it a bit. I appreciate the concern though, it's always good to put out fair warnings to others!

I am interested in starting my cats on a raw food diet but want to have a well rounded research on both sides before doing so. Thank you!

Most carnivores are asymptomatic to salmonella bacterias so it’s fine to feed raw eggs, as long as they aren’t allergic.

Ya I tried a raw food diet for 3 weeks and my dogs poops never came back normal, always mucus-y and loose. I figured it might be a food intolerance. Another great video! I do have a question though. As a ferret owner, is there other things to add to a PMR meal? Like what other things will my ferret benefit from? So far we added sardines, whole prey and oysters. I'm still doing research and actually reading "feeding ferrets naturally" by Pazuandfriends on KZbin. I was in her ferret Halloween contest and we all basically got a free book. She does get egg at least once a week, but she just licks it a few times and comes back later.
@PawsofPrey3 жыл бұрын
The nutrient requirements for ferrets are a pretty big question mark unfortunately. Raw feeders use kitten NRC guidelines for ferrets, so that's really all you can go by and try to meet nutrient requirements with species appropriate foods or supplements. Your best bet is feeding whole prey though as these are what are the closest to natural balance.

ty for making this video! any chance you can make a video for a labrador retriever's ideal raw diet (female english lab, moderate to low energy). Her name is Emma and she is 2.5 years old and my entire world. we just transitioned to raw about a month ago. prior to that she was eating royal canin dry dog food for puppies and eventually the adult dry dog food version. I used an online raw dog food calculator and it told me that for a 65lb. dog I should be feeding them 1-1.25 lbs of food a day. 80% protein, 10% bone, 10% secreting organs. With this in mind I have been using the following diet: 1.25lb/20 oz. total per day: Beef Liver - 2 oz. (10% Secreting Organ) Chicken Thigh Bones - 2 oz. (10% Bone) Beef Heart - 2 oz. (10% Protein) Lean Beef - 2 oz. (10% Protein) Pork Tenderloin - 2 oz. (10% Protein) Chicken Thigh - 4 oz. (10% Protein) Salmon - 2 oz. (10% Protein) *3 a week I add 2 oz. of Pork Brain (Secreting Organ) *The other 4 days a week I add 2 oz. of fresh Salmon or Ahi Tuna Please note that my dog is currently 85 lbs and we are trying to increase our excercise and eating habits. Any tips or advice you give would mean the world to me. Mahalo, -Justin, Fan from Hawaii
