My in-laws tried to bar me from having any relationship with my son, except being a monthly check. Even went so far as to tell people that my now wife "just had a bit of a weight problem for a while", and the baby was biologically theirs. Took the judge all of 2 seconds to kill the co-guardianship order the in-laws made us sign under duress, and gave us our son back. Had to go through changing his name to mine and everything. The kicker? They gave my wife an hour to give him back to them permanently or move out. Been out and married for almost 26 years. Our son will be 27 in June 2023.

@sheyennemerritt3215 first and most importantly, I hired an attorney and kept records of all notes, harassment, and any conversations. The biggest issue was the judge, he saw we wanted to be our son's only parents, so he gave us custody without any fuss. Also, document any issues the child is having, any possible abuse, everything. It'll help.

My husband would have some stories. We don’t talk to her anymore for lots of reasons but one inappropriate thing that comes to mind was when she gave me a new wedding dress -supposedly from a shop going out of business. I thanked her. Went on about how it’ll be perfect for our winter vow renewal for our 10 yr anniversary, and that I would put it up safe with my original dress. She rolled her eyes saying it was a childish thing to say since realistically I would wear it when I get remarried… No Karen most ppl don’t have 6 failed marriages under their belt. For context we are happily married. It was not like we were separated or anything that should suggest we would be get divorced. Just her creepy view that men are disposable.

Well, I don't like my SIL. Does that count? I've got too many stories to count. She keeps the house so cold even her husband complains, but she still won't compromise. My poor very elderly dad got sick when he stayed overnight one year, just woke up uncontrollably shivering. Thanks, SIL, no Christmas with my parents that year.

Now I’m not a woman so obviously never been pregnant, but if I was and anyone, doesn’t matter who, kept kissing and touching the baby bump against my wishes…well, their head is right there, so down comes the elbow.

So you would be the kind of parent that lets their kid have no immune system as an adult nice have fun being a b****** parent It's getting the germs when they're young that literally helps them not be as sick when they're older why do people not understand that get their vaccines and let people cuddle them they're only little ones they can only be cuddled like that once don't be selfish And also don't be a d*** when it comes 2 people interested tell them no and walk away don't hurt them because then they have every right to call the cops on you for assault

Sounds like a lot of ignored mental illness here. It's unfortunate but it's common for families to tolerate the crazy BS from Mom or Dad, then an outsider comes in and can't believe it's "just Mom". My wife knows all about it

Both my parents were off their heads & vicious & violentnw it. I left home early & never looked back. On the few occasions I was forced into their company after that, they wanted me to know they forgave me (VERY obvious bullship) & my father complained that I had never 9nce brought friends home to visit when I was at school. Why the duck would I bring anyone home to watch my parents like the utter loons they were?

It's possible, but I'm really tired of having toxic behavior referred to as mental illness. Being an overgrown man or woman child who doesn't respect boundaries, has no comprehension of the word no, doesn't have a shred of empathy nor any expectation of consequences or apprisals for their horrific behavior is not a mental illness. It's called being an unrepentant butthole.

I am mixed race nor do I come from money, once they found out we slowly became the black sheep. One of many reasons at least from my hubby's paternal side. Never mind my shit show of my sperm donor. But everyone has their hill to die on I guess. But we're still together and happy after almost 20 years. Good luck everyone!

6:34 "Yeah, Mom, you're not invited. We're giving your spot to 'Wanda.'" 11:10 Mom has borderline personality disorder and refuses to get help. Alas, there's precious little help available. Some therapists even refuse to deal with borderlines. Borderlines are always right, never wrong, and can either like or hate (and switch this up in an instant, sometimes in the same sentence). In their world, there are no shades of gray. Also, you're always wrong.

In-laws berated us on when we’re having kids which is already an awkward a subject because all eyes were on us for the first time the whole visit 🙄otherwise we were invisible. Then they threw a whole turkey and ham (among other foods they spent the whole day cooking) away 🤦‍♀️ into the trash because they get help with food all while ranting if we want to help the environment we can baby sit their kids and help humanity. I really hate this time of year sometimes

5:43 Narcissist or Emotionally Immature parents, my family is like this so I tend to avoid going to their places not just for holidays but all the time. I feel sorry for my boyfriends, but at least their families are decent.. the one MIL however is heavily religious, I'm trans and also have a lot things/ideals/self-help structures that are very anti-christian as a result of years of trauma, and she never asked a single question of me, just got really pushy when I was too uncomfortable to attend church on Christmas eve because I felt too uncomfortable and started to have panic attacks. I was starting to wonder why she never asked anything about me when my daemon reminded me that it's common in emotionally immature people, so I didn't take it personally.

If it was the mother-in-law's wedding that would be fine but she's not getting married. She offered it with apparently at first no strings attached, but if she wanted to plan everything she should have been up front about it. The only two people that should have any say whatsoever on what happens at the wedding is the bride and groom no matter how much money you're putting towards it or what kind of favors you do them.
