@@tiffanygrever8092 I believe that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks or sings. It really reflects what is going on inside. When Baby Baby came out, I really thought it was a song about boyfriend and girlfriend. I don't know what she would say about her current relationship with Christ. I hope it is strong but we can all drift in our devotion. I've experienced that myself. I certainly can't judge her for the decisions she made in her life. My hope is that she still loves and believes God's word no matter how that affects her career or the world's opinion of her. If they rejected Jesus, they will reject us at times for our stances. I love Amy Grant and Sandi Patty. My favorite album of all time is Another Time - Another Place by Sandi. Amy Grant did a duet with Sandi on that album called unexpected friends which was and still is. If you listen to the song now you would be amazed that it was recorded in 1990. Because the of the way the background music is played out, one might think that it is a current song of 2022. Just a beautiful song. I really have not kept up with Amy's career and life because I do not listen to her as much. But from what I remember about her in the 1990's is that she and Vince Gill became friends and recorded a house of love, there was no proof that she had an affair with Vince Gill. I remember in an interview that Gary Chapman said he gave his blessing to Amy and Vince and held no anger against them. That is what I remember about Amy Grant. From what I have seen over the years after Amy and Sandi married new spouses is that Amy was invited to the GMA dove awards more times than Sandi. I honestly say in recent years and do mean recent that I do not watch the dove awards anymore so I do know what it is like now days. God Bless everyone - Jason.

I remember when she had a cult like following in 1980. People were following other Christians groups that didn't have doctrinally sound music. It was "feel good" music. Love Song is an example. The Maranatha Singers did a good job putting scripture to music. To say Amy finally made it into the pop culture scene is not necessarily a compliment, as pop culture tends to water down the gospel. Sadly, we've abandoned the doctrinally rich hymns such as those of Isaac Watts. Not only are the words rich in doctrine, the music itself is pleasing to hear. The harmonies are natural. The high notes are not too high. Hymns are written to be sung congregationally. Their purpose is to glorify God as well as to embed doctrines of the Christian faith into our souls. Songs that are written for performance rather than congregational singing tend to focus on the performer when God alone should be the focus of our worship.
@wisdomthroughaworldofwords14122 ай бұрын
We all have our opinion. Amy's song: "In a Little While" was the first Christian Contemporary song I heard and the message hit home. And the word doctrine is used by people who try to define "Religion" and debate it. In my opinion.

I am commenting because she asks at the end what do you think of Amy Grant. I was born in 1979. my Mom & Dad got saved the year prior. I grew up listening to Amy Grant. I have cassette tape recordings ( as I am a singer & wanted to be like Amy Grant) of myself singing from age 4 to 15 an array of A.G. songs. I sang in churches around our little town with my parents. When I sang my Father’s Eyes (we often utilized karaoke tracts then) there wasn’t a dry eye in the congregation. Everyone knew who A.G. was & we all adored her, the songs, the message. As the years past I honestly stopped listening to her. I love all kinds of music, I too wanted to write music and sell song lyrics. I did attempt that field and found it to be very difficult & sacrificial of your spiritual life. I got married, have 4 boys, and am taking care of my Mom post-stroke for 13 years now. It was the challenge of life that drove me back to AMY and her songs. Back to CHRIST! I searched KZbin, Spotify, etc so I could hear Mountain Top, Walking in the Light, El Shaddai, & so much more. She is an amazing woman who inspired me as a young Christian lady and has helped me like a real friend as a grown woman. I am humbled to share my feelings of her. It was news to me how many accolades she carries. Wow! You go, girl! So much to her and her family I send and ask the Lord’s blessings upon them

I think if she heard more stories like yours she'd not shy away from her faith. The early years produced incredibly rich songs with hard-hitting lyrics. That ended after "Unguarded." Blanton and Harrell wanted their big "breakthrough" artist, and got one. But you can't have it both ways, as the early listeners were too few in number for the big charts. I was one of those who stayed with her, but I know she had to "evolve" to be what she is, sadly.

@@modspellI don't agree with you at all. I didn't know who Amy Grant was until I saw the tapes and CD's of Heart in Motion on a music stand during a youth rallye at our pentecostal convention, back in 1991. I was a teenager, son of a pastor, battling with the seduction of the world and its music. I was a die hard fan of Madonna and Michael Jackson stuff, like many other teenagers attending our churches. That day, I remember my eyes went on the cover of her new album. I bought it and listened to it all the way back home, on the bus with our church. That's when I realized I could listen to music with a positive message and christian values in it, and not only the old hymns (even if I love them now). See, from then on, I discovered her previous albums, then discovered Michael W Smith and other Christian artists such as Jars of Clay, Jaci Velasquez, Sixpence, and many others. It had a tremendous impact and influence on the way God shaped my faith. All of this and many other experiences led me to accept Christ on a personal and genuine way, and not only because I was a minister's son. I will forever be grateful to AG because she contributed with her music to be who I am today. A pastor. No, she ain't perfect and neither am I. No, I don't necessarily share all her recent views on specific topics but that doesn't mean I'm gonna stop loving her as my sister in Christ or stop praying for her. Judge her? Forget it. AG is a human being like any pf us and nobody should put her on a pedestal as if she was supposed to be our role model or some christian "idol". Only Jesus should, and His Word remains our sole and ultimate normative teaching.

I feel so sorry for her feelings, but it was worth it to her - to find her own authentic self - it was worth it. She was living the fake christian life so many people play every sunday. Too many opinions on what "Christian music" is in my opinion. I like her music. Just because a woman dresses in something other than a burlap bag covering her entire body doesn't mean she is not a believer. I guess the other more recent singers/songwriters/bands of the time must fail the test too. sad is what I think! I love the music of old and newer. if it makes my heart and soul feel closer to my father God and his son Jesus, then I shall sing praises to Him!!! I have asked God for discernment when it comes to what goes into my head and heart/soul when it comes to music. I am able to lessen my anxiety/depression through the wonderful sounds of these artists and will continue to stop listening to what "they" say! Who are "they" ,by the way? I have been held captive in many ways in my traumatized/abusive past and will no longer listen to what "they" think I should be listening to. sounds like people need to stop trying to control my joy by bashing lovely women like Amy...and divorce does not define a woman an more in this day and age. Amy Grant is authentic. She’s lived her whole life in the spotlight, even going through a divorce from a real jerk. I witnessed his abhorrent behavior towards her at a concert in Houston late in their marriage and was so relieved when she got away from his abusive mess. People drew assumptions from gossip about the quick love story and marriage between she and her second husband, Vince Gill. They were already friends, so it’s not like they had to start a friendship, then romantic relationship, which is probably why they knew sooner they were soulmates, just like my husband and I. She is very real in her life, her music, and being a Christian. She doesn’t put on airs and pretend like so many. I support her 1000%❣️ She’s a blessing to all authentic followers of Christ.

So God joined them together and they vowed? God made a mistake? How seriously does God take vows? Is it not life for life? If one is promising to do something, or else my life. How do you not know if she was a jerk? You witnessed abhorrent behavior one time and you come to a conclusion. Since when is being a jerk a God given reason to divorce? What other man made reasons you have for permitting a divorce? Is the scriptures your only rule of faith and practice? Are you the standard to which you judge anything by? Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

No excuse for abuse! Especially to stay in a relationship so "they" don't gossip! I am walking the narrow path and have been judged because I never married or had kids. I have been used, abused, sold into sexual slavery, and am now one of God's daughters and praising him through music. It has been something that soothes my soul and brings great joy to me. And I know Our Father god is glad He brought me home and safe beneath His wings! I am glad you found your soulmate, dearest daughter of the Highest! God bless you and your soulmate! Hey. I just watched this documentary about Amy Grant because my girlfriend, Lisa, just talked ONLY two of her many, many friends to go to an Amy Grant concert in San Luis Obispo, CA. When I fell in love with Lisa, many, many years ago, she kept it a secret that she Loved God more than any one or anything else on the planet. I was kind of shocked when she FINALLY told me. I honestly, never knew. She hid it from me. But personally, I've always liked Amy Grant and her 'God/Gospel music' was always uplifting; but I am not a religious person and absolutely am against all organized religion. But of course, I believe in God or some higher power, whatever name you choose to use. So what I really learned in this video is that people grow and change and adapt to circumstances. That life isn't perfect. People fall in and out of love and marriage and divorce happen and celebrities must adapt to their audience as they too change and grow and evolve. So; I LOVE Amy Grant and am happy for her and her success as the number one Religious singer AND also that she is a hit with the pop culture world too. More power to such a brave woman. Linda Fossi, an ex-pat now living in Ajijic, Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico...because really, who would want to continue to live in the NOT United States of America? Ok, being honest I had a crush on Amy Grant in the early to mid 80's and it got me to listen to commercial Christian music for the first time ever.
@amelguoc4682 Жыл бұрын
I have loved her music since I was a little girl... Would buy every cassette tape and corresponding piano music book when they would come out. I got to see her in concert in the early 80's. Her album Unguarded got me through Jr. High, when I was probably at my worst in terms of trying to figure out life amidst my parents divorcing, subsequent move, etc. I sang along with Amy Grant endlessly in my bedroom, in the car, at my piano. When she went through her divorce, I felt badly for her pain, and the song "Somewhere Down the Road" which never would have been written (along with the other amazingly transparent, soul-baring songs in that album) had she not chosen to share her pain with us, became my own healing anthem when I lost my husband in a car accident. Through our transparency in times of adversity, God's love is shown to infinitely MORE people in a genuine way than if we pretend that we are perfect or unattainably good. Amy's authenticity is what I have found most appealing about her over the years, and her music follows. I was a little girl at her concert in Phoenix, AZ, watching her pop off her brand new manicure ON STAGE when she realized they had made her nails a bit too long to play her guitar. I have never forgotten that. Then I was a woman suffering great loss of my own, and there she was, strumming my pain with her fingers, singing my life with her words. It was encouraging, and I didn't feel so alone. Look, we are not perfect... not one single one of us is. .I have spent my entire life going to Church. Grew up in church, played in worship bands, worship teams, was even the church pianist for a long time. I love God and I love music. I ALSO love my fellow man. Being up in front of congregations all those years, I had a bird's-eye view of some of the most amazing worship and watching God move through people in real-time and such an amazing way and also had a front-row seat to watch some of the most judgmental, imperfect, hornblower's so bent on pointing out what they feel our other people's shortcomings or sins rather than focusing on their own lives and just loving each other as we are commanded to do. And I'll tell you what. Without question, I will take someone who is screwed up and authentic six days of the week and twice on Sunday over anyone who is not genuine and pretends to be something they're not and judges other people based on their own tape measure of what is good and what is bad. We don't get to hold the tape measure. That's God's job. Our job is to love each other. If you believe that God is sovereign, then you can safely back off and let him do his thing. If you do NOT believe He is sovereign, then you don't really have a dog in this fight anyway, so stuff a sock in it and work on your judgemental tunnel visioned self. Who do you think you are, wrapping our infinite creator who is beyond our comprehension up in a neat little package that your teeny brain can actually handle without short circuiting? STOP PICKING ON OTHER PEOPLE. I know you'll have a lot of extra time on your hands when you give that fruitless and harmful part your life up, so start filling it with POSITIVE and UPLIFTING acts of service and focus on having a JOYFUL heart in doing so. You'll be happier, and the unbelievers who think we are all blinded brainwashed bullies just might start to take notice. The message of Jesus is so simple, that most people can't just DO without adding on this or that reward or consequence or law or rule or whatever. There is no money or power in the message of Jesus. Love one another. LOVE ONE ANOTHER. EVERYONE IS A CREATION OF GOD, not just you and the people who agree with you. EVERYONE. Brown white black purple, gay straight lesbian queer pan trans, people who speak every language who live in every corner of every part of this earth. We are to love. That is it. There is no argument out of that one, because that is the truth of Jesus and that is the truth of the Bible. I'm excited to be able to see the next chapter in the life of Amy Grant, and I'll be interested to see and hear any music that is born from it. She is a woman who is real, and who allows God to work through her during happy and not so happy times in her life, and that is at the very least admirable and at best an inspiration and example for all of us. And just as a parting note, for the die-hard fundamental ultra-conservative super perfect Christians out there, do some research on the gentleman who wrote the hymn " It is Well with My Soul.". Beautiful hymn, the favorite hymn of hundreds of thousands of people, including myself. Part of the story is commonly known, but the rest of his life is hardly talked about. But it is in the rest of his life that the power of God shines through because that song is timeless and is still comforting to people generations upon generations after it was written. Do your homework, then come back, stop pointing fingers, and show love to all of God's creations. You know, since He's God, and you're not, and that's what He's commanded us to do. 😊

But, even that's really conservative. Although, she has a pretty face, and that wavy hair in such a way that it's very enchanting, and hypnotic in her videos like it could cast a spell on you. It works well for her in terms of less is more. But, for Christians that take offense, have you forgotten your scripture? Unguarded was seen as THE Album she broke her promise to Christians to. (Not that she ever had one imo) but if you compare Straight Ahead to Unguarded, there is a big difference. I've owned countless copies of Unguarded, went to the original Heart in Motion concert and just went to her anniversary HiM concert (with an overwhelming Baptist audience I might add, I'm not one, but they were in full force in our small town) and she was bare foot. 💖 Awesome to see her, was so excited. I have not met her, but I did have a lovely meeting with her parents Dr. Burton and Gloria Grant, at a Belmont Church Picnic at the old Starwood Amphitheatre, which was located just south of Nashville. I didn't have any issue with her "Crossing Over" from Contemporary Christian Music into The Pop Music Realm, and even admired the recording she did with the former bassist and singer with Chicago, Peter Cetera. However, I was deeply distressed and concerned for her spiritual and emotional welfare, when last summer of 2023, she welcomed one of her nieces, who was in the process of marrying her Lesbian Partner, at I believe, an outside ceremony at the farm where she and Vince live. As a songwriter, I had even envisioned approaching her producer with a demo of one of my original songs, but have since decided not to do so, since for that song, which is a very moving "Spiritual Ballad" I presently is not an appropriate "Fit" for her, given her LGBTQ endorsements. Having ministered in Prison Ministry as well as medium and small church settings for many years, I am well acquainted with "Sin,".... both my own as well as that of others, and I have had several Homosexual Male Friends over the years, but while loving and respecting these people as individuals, I always made clear that I supported The Biblical Standard of "Marriage...." which God created as ONLY being between one man and one woman..... and hopefully for life. So... in retrospect and reflection, I will continue praying for Amy and Vince, as I also continue praying for myself, in light of my own "Falleness.... living in our desperately fallen world.... I thank God for Amy and Vince and for all of the great music both of them (as well as Gary Chapman) have contributed for so many years. Even though I probably will never achieve the level of success that any of them have gained, I will continue to emulate the "No Compromise Attitude" of another one of my Songwriting Role Model, the late Keith Green. Shalom to Amy and Vince and their family...... Ted Schempp, Nashville. Psalm 91 & 121........:)

She's one of the best people I've had the pleasure of meeting in the music industry. Anyones life on paper is easy to judge, but Amy has lived her life with empathy and compassion. She is the true definition of a Christian and for that we love her! Proud to be a fan for over 30 years!

I have always loved Amy and her music. I don't understand why the Christian community, which I am a part of, so quickly and easily condemns their own. We are suppose to be a forgiving church. You know... WWJD? Well I don't think that they follow what Jesus would do. He loves not condemns, He forgives those who need forgiveness and are willing to ask for it. And He shows mercy... WE don't do that very well do we? I say God Bless her.

The argument should only be Christian versus non Christian. If a Christian, biblical truths cannot be abandoned, and if these principles are NOT abandoned in contemporary, secular markets, then no problem. Amy erased the biblical, and very clear scriptural boundaries, to be " inclusive."

Amy definitely helped lead me closer to my walk with Jesus. It’s not easy leaving the world and walking with the Lord. I missed my secular Music. 🎶 Michael Jackson was my favorite so it was nice to find her music. I’m thankful for her music of the past. I don’t listen to her anymore. I guess we just need to really pray more for her. She’s been tempted by money.

She really ministered to me bk in the early 80's I bought all her albums from her first Amy Grant (1979) up to House of Love (1994). With House of Love album I did notice her focus had changed. Also, in my opinion, she got bad advice. A vocal coach told her she had horrible singing habits that she must change. Amy did so under her guidance. Her vocals don't sound the same which makes me sad.
