@inside_fighting I hear what you're saying, but I'm not buying it. They both threw the fight. That was scripted, & Tyson held back. If you look at Tyson's training camp leading up to the fight, especially were he was hitting the mitts, his legs looked strong, & he had fast hands & head movement. He looked like he was in his 20s. I find extremely difficult to believe, even at 58, that he wasn't able to launch one of those up close explosive flurry combinations that he was known for. At least once. If he had a few of those in the 1st few rounds, & then got tired & defensive, that would be totally understandable. But I don't believe it.

Agree to all of these replies. The 54 year old Tyson video helps put it into perspective for me. Man, the 54 year old Mike looks damn good. That 54 year old Tyson is what I thought we were getting Friday night. Not even close. And, Unfortunately it was clear the current 58 year old Mike Tyson had become pretty sick. Jake and his team were told this. Nobody wanted to back out and an iron clad NDA agreement was struck. Netflix knew this from the day they all signed the papers for this fight. Their NDA was written to ensure Jake and Mike would fight all 8 rounds. Jake must agree to not attempt any knockdown/knockout punches. In return Mike who is knowingly sick and physically unable to perform with said injury and illness agreed to protect himself and cover up his face and head to ensure his safety and that the fight reaches all 8 rounds. Sucks.

Tyson has been taking THC and Shrooms heavily for the past few years. Those things aren't exactly performance enhancers. Plus he has a bad wheel and old legs. The best explanation for Mike Tyson’s performance in the ring is the payout was based on Jake winning and Mike not knocking him out. Additionally - he may have trained a little too hard, wore his body out before the bout. Thirdly - Tyson clearly wasn’t giving 100%. There’s one point where Jake threw that ridiculous “overhand right” (AKA a blind haymaker). In training Mike had a specific counterpunch for that: A dodge and uppercut. In training he delivered it; in the fight he dodged, started to throw the uppercut but then stopped and just shoved Jake. Tyson is old, and sick - even so he didn’t go as hard as he could have. I think the first minute showed what he could have done. Jake knows Mike held back.

Maybe. How much debt is Evander in? He'll go thru the shame of a fixed fight too if he's broke enough. But the org won't do that I'd guess. They need someone younger for the next Paul fight. Loved fighting, but i know that i'm slower now, and don't use the same motions as i once did, which wasn't very long ago. Fighting aside, Mr. Tyson has overcome more than ring honor, he has found himself, and love for people, most importantly himself. That man has been through hell and back, he's human just like you, and me. I can't imagine being in his shoes so young, with that ego, and attitude, access to things we only see in magazines, or tv. That's a weight i could not have handled, i'd be in jail or prison for being on such a power trip. Let Mike be in peace with himself, Mike has already proved to be top tier boxer. Now he has found something more powerful, and those fortunate to understand this at an older age, you'll understand one day.

A true warrior is facing a challenge knowing he may lose, yet he still shows up for battle. I have enjoyed watching the metamorphosis of Tyson the man. He’s never made excuses for his mistakes. He has always evolved and most of all conquered his demons. To see his son interview him pre fight was awesome. Hearing Tyson tell his son “I love you” was a beautiful moment. He didn’t need to win the fight. Walking to the ring and going 8 rounds after ulcers and sepsis is a victory Jake Paul will never replicate this type of a victory. Totally agree with the post ulcer hospitalization comments. As a physician I can attest that patients decondition very rapidly, just from laying in a hospital bed, even if the illness is short and not that severe. Your body goes into a catabolic state, using your own fat and muscle to try to combat the acute illness. Fight should’ve been canceled for good, or rescheduled for a year later, I bet the purse strings and maybe contractual issues, pride, Netflix, etc. was just too much for Tyson and his camp to resist. For a reasonable real life comparison story just read up on Dennis chambers, who had a similar perforated ulcer and sepsis story about a decade ago. Dennis is one of the world’s greatest and fastest drummers, not a martial artist, but someone who has done something quite physical at a super human level for the past 60+ years. After that hospital stay, he did not play drums or appear in the public eye for well over a year. He was also a big heavyset, physical guy, not that different from Tyson, and someone who also had figured out how to harnessed the laws of physics.

That's quite fascinating, and I also thank you for sharing your expertise. I actually majored in (orchestral) percussion in undergrad. But with no sickness like what we're seeing, he still had (and has) incredible technique. Of course, playing percussion is definitely less physically intensive than boxing. Would you say that post-ulcer hospitalization also impairs one's motor skills?
@natankhishchenko9593Ай бұрын
@@ave.runcus a couple comments. 1. i am not a drummer, but i have messed around on a kit, and i know some amateur and pro players. i don't know about say classical percussion, which might be more genteel, but full on drumset playing is in many ways probably as physical as martial arts. you're using ankles, quads, calves and hitting things with sticks, all simultaneously and in rhythm. its like kali with your hands and muai thai with your legs ha ha. there are a number of pretty well known drummers who have also done martial arts, and they would point out the similarities - rhythm, hand eye coordination, breathing, stamina, etc. i will try to answer your medical question separately.
@natankhishchenko9593Ай бұрын
i don't know that the ulcer part is what matters, but i am not a GI doc, or a hospital medicine or ICU doc etc, i am a neurologist. im just saying that acute medical illnesses in general, especially if associated with getting hospitalized, especially if the hospital stay is prolonged, in the ICU, complicated by multi organ issues, delirium etc, can be profound and it takes a long time to recover. esp if one is already older, more frail, more med issues etc. they can affect the nervous system in multiple ways, direct and otherwise, including getting delirious, nerve injuries and dysfunction from compression and acute medical illness and malnutrition, loss of muscle mass and fat reserves. i don't think they would affect motor 'skills' coordination wise per se. hope that helps.

I still spar twice a month with guys half my age. I've held my own, when it's got rough. I also have TRT to help me. I will admit though, you do feel the punches more, especially to the body, as you get older, and you have to pace yourself. Mike showed shades of his youthful self at 54 against Roy Jones. I thought that we might have seen that Mike on Saturday. Considering all this. I don't believe age alone beat Mike. Mike's constant dope smoking, inactivity until training for this fight, too much steroid weight that he was carrying, and as you're saying here, very serious health issues tbat included sepsis. Which can kill you. These factors beat Mike more than anything. Also I watched his training. They had him train one range. The inside range. No outer or mid range training. That didn't help him either. Not when he's fighting a tall guy with a long reach. Albeit Fake Paul.

Old boxing adage "legs are the first thing to go." My perspective at 65 is that every decade takes a lot off, particularly the legs. Upper body is another story, I'm still reasonably strong there. But even working out every day my legs aren't strong at all. When I was younger I thought working out hard overcomes the usual loss of strength from aging. But decline happens no matter how hard the workouts. My feeling is that Tyson has lost a lot off his legs, and without his usual explosive footwork he's wasn't able to do much against Paul No doubt Tyson still has huge upper body strength, but upper body strength in boxing doesn't mean much if you can't move.

If one has not already transition as one ages to the so-called “soft” styles (Jujitsu, Chen Tai Chi Quan, Xing-Yi, BaGua). Keep good striking in your back pocket for life/death self-defense. If you have been training for years, when that adrenaline hits you will move with speed & power-but not in “rounds”. Sport forms are not real life. Our healthy bodies & strong minds are our life.

Agree with everything you said. We just have to modify how we train and what we do it for
@johnmaletic898Ай бұрын
Precisely. Over 30 years ago I met a man, a doctor, a yichuan practitioner. Back then he was in his late sixties. An apparently soft dude, your average John Doe. Till you sparred with him. Sparring is a big word really. It was game over within seconds. The speed was immense and the hits felt nothing short of...like putting wet fingers in an electric socket ( by lack of better words). Yichuan has no forms, no...what you might call katas or anything. At its core is zhan zhuang. Practiced with intention (Yi). While its very good and very powerful for health, zhan zhuang enables self protection till advanced age.

That's a reasonable to great perspective on things. After a career in LE I practice my own martial style named "Cheat Kun Do" which advocates striking using solid fixed objects like floors, walls, tables. Speaking seriously, there is relatively little risk as long as you don't go to stupid places, where stupid people hang out at stupid times. Long ago I did study with a very skilled Yang Tai Chi Chuan instructor and am happy to see the "soft"/"internal" styles mentioned here. Folks are exponentially more at risk from not maintaining healthy lifestyles in terms of eating right and maintaining activity with a reasonable level of fitness than being attacked. For those rare instances I revert to now ancient technology provided by John Moses Browning and Col. Jeff Cooper.

@ the saddest part is that combat sports ruin our health… then we are older and can’t defend our families cuz our bodies are broken

Very refreshing video. Unlike so many ignorant fight fans who come out and say it was "fixed", you give rational reasons why things actually went down the way they did. I agree completely. Thank you for making fight fans look informed and not like total fools. Much appreciated.
@AzguardMikeАй бұрын
right because boxing, martial arts tournaments and horse racing is never "fixed" right? I'm being sarcastic, of course they are. Be it by organised crime, to purposely setting one obvious winner against a mentally ill frail old man passed his prime. I've done my fair bout in the ring, nowhere near Tyson's level and I can tell you, hand on the Bible, its rigged. My first few bouts, they put me up against people of equal calibre, got a bit of a streak going, was doing pretty good. Then the put me against this guy who even i knew I couldn't take down. Even my coach before hand said to me "Throw the fight. Don't go for the win, just hold out and let him win on points." Gave my all for the first few rounds, had a gash over my eye from a dirty swipe after a hold. Coach at that point said "they're offing you X amount to throw the towel in but only this round." I spoke to my coach afterwards, angry because he actually did toss the towel in and took a pay off. Coach told me after, "mike, this is how the game works lad. You need to get with the programme. You gotta throw a few fights if you wanna make it big. And you made a bit on the side tonight, you just gotta accept it son." Gave me a roll of notes and a pat on the back. Never boxed again. If there doing that in the smaller fights, what do you think happens in big matches?
@Demonizer5134Ай бұрын
@@AzguardMike Sure, it's something that can happen, but I don't think that is the case here. All the people who now claim it was "fixed" were dumb enough to believe that Tyson was going to destroy him, and that didn't happen. They paid to watch that happen, and when they didn't get the outcome they wanted, they cried "fixed" to try to rationalize their original decision. It's just them making excuses for the fact that Tyson lost the fight, for reasons stated in this video.

It was fixed. The whole yourbe boxer thing depends on Paul winning every event. People watch to see him lose. He's the bad guy. Mike didn't even try. Jake didn't even try. Mike was ashamed of himself , it was clear from the locker room interview.
@Demonizer5134Ай бұрын
@@kenw2225 Show some real proof that it was fixed and I'll believe it. Suspicions are not evidence. You would have to produce something contractual, something written, which proves a fix. If you don't have that, then don't make the claim.

It seemed like Tyson had some health issues. Maybe you have a point there. Anyway I thought it was still great that at his age he came back to fight. Makes us older guys keep going.

That is exactly right if he had any class he would have thrown the towel in before the end of the 8th and stated that that was no victory and he wouldn't have wanted on his record but no no class just a TV personality bum should be sued for allowing people to bet on it

I have been suffering from something I have no idea about. X-rays MRIs blood tests show nothing. 2 years ago I was playing kickball and now two years later.., I find it difficult to walk up to the corner store and I have not been able to run since last year. I'm 54 but I am almost certain this is not age but is due to myhealth just like you mentioned earlier. I feel completely awful. If Mike Tyson feels the way I do...., I'm impressed that mike got through two rounds much less the whole 16 minute fight. I'm not going to say anything biological about covid but it's ironic that they both started out around the same time. I've always been healthy and mobile and I am a non-smoker. This is real and is extremely exhausting to live with. I feel like I'm suffering from atrophy.. going from football to not being able to do burpees in two years seems almost implausible. If it's a new disease that hasn't been categorized I hope it gets named after me because everybody knows mike tyson already. Lol

That was a shit exhibition. I think only Jake and Mike knew it though. But maybe there were reasons thinking on it. Punches were pulled though. 6:52- When Brock Lesnar had his stomach and gut issue that almost killed him he didn’t fight Carwin for atleast 7 months. At 58 you can still say Mike’s different from most of the fighting world now. There’s a few fighters on that list. But Connor McGregor is not one of them. Pinky toe. I’m a old cage dog and that’d still be nothing to me today let alone 14ys ago.
