Looking forward to hear lithium battery, I was close getting one but opt for lead acid/gel for now. Since mine 1990 GW , it was difficult finding perfect battery for it. I’ve confronted few short life batteries even I care for them using maintainers chargers. You’re right… manufacturers don’t make good batteries nowadays.

I think you've done a great job on changing batteries. Hopefully that battery that you have in there right now will hold you a lot longer than the other ones and I just like the way you got your lights on your Goldwing motorcycle. I'm wondering if I could put the same battery on a 50cc scooter to run my underglow lights and the engine also and the headlights and the tail lights and turn signals and all that if it would be if I were having any trouble that's what I'm looking for is a good battery

I have a 22 Honda Rebel 1100 15 months old. Same thing went out to crank it and it would not start. It had the original battery in it and they tested it. It had the proper voltage but, only had 96 cranking amps. I had to buy a die hard that was a little too tall so I had to take out the tray on top. So I definitely feel your pain.

Hey Chris love your stuff. Own a 2021 DCT and really enjoy it. Came from a 2018 Heritage Special. Switched over due to my obsession with riding the curves in the Smoky Mts. Do most of my trips solo and had about 5 or 6 rude instances of not shutting the bike down totally and walking up on a dead battery, the Heritage was smart enough to totally shut down. The last time was the last straw, forgot my jumper in my work truck, and came out of a restaurant after 40 minutes with a dead battery. From my limited understanding lead batteries are suppose to be better if you like chilling somewhere listening to music with the bike not running which is not me. My thought at first was buy another jumper, but I ran into something last year (never watch KZbin, lol), and been really happy with it. If I go on a long trip, I'll take my jumper from truck with me, but the rest of the time I'm just riding around with a Antigravity Battery with built in jumper button. Funny thing is I've really gotten good about not forgetting to turn off everything, and I ride once a week, never use a trickle charge, and did test the jumper button once. Really happy with it.

If you don't want to buy all new chargers for the new lithium batteries now available, a "dry cell" battery is the way to go. I recommend the Odyssey battery by EnerSys. It's American made and it's what the U.S. military uses in nearly everything that has an engine. EnerSys is literally the last of the U.S. battery manufacturers that still make exceptionally good, "reliable" batteries. Oh, and no, I don't work for them, but I did work for one of their distributors. Also, a backup battery with a selective isolator would solve ever being stranded because of a bad battery. It's not like Goldwings don't have the room for two batteries. It just takes some creative wiring with the proper gauge, an isolator and an inline resettable fuse. When I get my Goldwing, I'm doing all of the above so I'll never be stranded out of state or anywhere over a bad battery. FYI...Midtronics battery testers are woefully and notoriously inaccurate! Just sayin....

It must be a battery defect. I have a (purchased new) 2021 Gold Wing Tour DCT. Went to start it this past weekend and the battery was completely dead. Attempts to charge it were unsuccessful. The battery is original OEM and almost exactly 3 year old. Thing is, this Wing has less than 4000 miles and lives in a climate controlled garage. I've decided to try the Antigravity ATX-20-HD lithium, which is supposed to be a direct replacement for the OEM Yuasa GYZ20L. My Africa Twin came with a lithium battery as OEM and I love it.

The battery on my FJR 1300 I replaced on its seventh year of life the next battery I purchase was the magna power like you purchased and it lasted three weeks past is 90 day warranty thankfully the guy at the auto parts store stood up and replaced it for me five months later that one went bad.. I then purchased a lithium battery it doesn't work as well in the cold but it's much lighter and has twice as much cca .. Pretty much ran into the same situation with my 2004 Suzuki bandit.. Original battery was 10 years old then went through two more before I got a good one in a period of 2 years As for the guests as everybody throughout throughout their . All are nice guesses but always remember test don't guess.. Dallas Chris that he tested didn't just guess it through another battery on it for no justifiable reason... And yes the first thing I would have done was test the quality the battery second thing would have been looking for a parasitic draw

My yussa battery that came in my 17 was still good in 23. But I replaced it because it was 6 years old. Still use that original battery to run a fishing aerator when we go fishing, never quite yet. My 01 wing still had the original battery for 7 years, Honda said it was still good to go. So when I went to a 08 vtx 1800 I sold the wing and the battery was doing good. That's the only kind I run. To me there the best

Chris you need to know , that you don't know how to test a Alternator , a ohm meter only test volts . you need to test amperage output, then the DIODES , and last voltage regulator . also high voltage in a battery that goes down in voltage as you cracked is a indicator your battery is sulfated ! , and that means the lead has absorbed acid and is no longer pushing it out. as for lithium , don't park that bike in your house so when it goes up in flames , you and your house won't . I know I come off as being disrespectful, but I just hate bad info.

I have had so many no-start scenarios on my 2018 DCT. Typically they occur after a short trip and a gas stop or a coffee stop. I come out to a bike that appears to have a very weak battery. The dash usually lights up ( I now carry a VOM and usually the voltage always test good) but the bike will barely turn over and not start. I'm getting very used to this problem so I've started carrying a NOCO jump pack after being stranded and having to trailer the bike home. I have done exhaustive parasitic draw tests and the bike is clean. So 18 months ago I too decided that a LiFePo4 battery would be the holy grail. Well during a 5 day ride last week I had 6 no-start events on a less then two year old NOCO NLP20, all solved by the NOCO jump pack. Unfortunately my local auto shop cannot load test a LiFePo4 battery so all I can do is watch the VOM drop from 13.2 to 8-ish volts during the very short crank cycle. I'm not sure I want to hassle with the NOCO 5-yr warranty, A soon as I have to jump start this new battery more than once, I'll just get a new AGM.

I have a HD electra glide with a 1800 cc engine. 110ci. My battery is getting old but works fine. I was thinking of a lithium battery also but i noticed that, on my power tools that lithium runs strong the just stops dead. There is not any slowing down just dead. I think ill stay with lead acid, AMG. IF it gets weaker it will crank slower to give you a heads up. Just saying.

Hi Chris, What changes are you making to the bikes / alternators to support the different charge profile of the lithium batteries? You mention buying lithium chargers but are those to install between the alternator and the battery? As for the Yuasa, sounds like you got a marginal one that still worked for 2+ years, not that all of them are bad.
@paineys3341

Interesting, one point to consider buying a Lithium battery, where do you live and do you ride all year round? Lithium batteries have an issue with cold weather starting ie below 45F. If you went to start your bike below that temp it probably would not start, you would need to leave your bike turned on for 6 min or longer as that wakes the battery up. I too was tempted to move to a Lithium battery until I read so many reports from Harley riders having this issue, maybe a Honda is not so bad as a Harley requires a battery with stronger cranking amps
@bsjacks
@bsjacks Жыл бұрын
The Honda Goldwing has a car sized engine at 1.8 liters with a relatively small battery at 250 CCA. My Corolla also has a 1.8-liter engine, but the battery has 600 CCA vs 250 CCA for the Yuasa. Big difference! . While 250 CCA battery will work fine on the Goldwing, the Yuasa battery must stay in top condition to turn a 1.8-liter engine. If the battery capacity falls off by 10 or 15%, the Yuasa may not crank the Goldwing engine. . So, now I keep a tender on my ’23 DCT at all times. No issues so far. When the Yuasa does fail, I’ll look at the Duracell AGM motorcycle battery that claims 330 CCA. Good luck all….

Now they recommended me to change with BS BATTERY , i have told this fit to work with bikes those have more leds …
