2023 Goldwing DCT Lithium Battery Noco NLP20

In this video I install the Noco LP20 Lithium battery inside my DCT Honda Goldwing.
Lithium LiFePO4 batteries are the safest of the lithium batteries on the market because they will not catch fire or overheat. Even if you puncture the battery it will not catch fire, this is a massive upgrade over Lithium-Ion batteries which can overheat and catch fire.

Do not buy this battery. Had it for two years and it has gone bad. NOCO will maybe honor the warranty with 1-3 week or longer wait. So if you ride your bike you need to keep a spare battery. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BATTERY.

Ok Chris I am behind the times but catching up. I recently bought a 2019 DCT trike with only 6000 miles and right off the bat, battery problems. So I just ordered everything you got and will install all tomorrow when it arrives. Thanks for your videos they are very helpful. Got to get the brass extender bolts, want to add LED LIGHTS next. I just installed it yesterday. Thanks, brother, and the battery tracker i have the 2022 black goldwing, and th original stock battery was not holding a charge. Those stock batteries are garbage

Good Morning Chris! I enjoyed your video on NOCO NLP20/BATTERY Tracker! I have the same NOCO Battery on my 2023 GL1800, I love it. I bought it for my original 2018 GL1800, but had it transferred to my new bike at purchase. It was an easy install for me; I watched a video by Private Citizen and followed his process. The only difference with his installation was, he trimmed some material off the battery so the battery cables could clear: I like your idea better in retrospect, anyway great job as always!!! I have right at 13 lbs of tools in a tool bag in my left side case (yes i weighed the silly thing with a luggage scale). Removing that 15 lb. Yuasa battery would almost equal out a 3.7 lb battery and the tools ~ give or take a couple lbs. 😊 Yet another great video. Chris even shows how the app works, and he sticks to the topic and is always professional. There are tons of videos i start to watch and cant finish simply because of the gibberish and nonsense (and to be clear, i dont mind a funny joke or something every now and then, but i'm talking about just straight crap or dumb stuff). You don't and won't find that here. Just good clean, concise and informative information.

Good video Chris. I just replaced the lead acid battery this year as the last one only lasted about 18 months. I look forward to your status updates on the LI Battery. BTW, you may want to think about installing a positive and negative terminal block in that saddlebag for your accessories and run 8-10 gauge wires to each terminal on the battery. You can mount them in small boxes in the bag to protect them. It will make for a much neater installation along with helping to maintain airflow over the battery.

I look forward to your updates on this as my next battery may be the LI battery. The cost effectiveness for the LI is better.

Chris, You mentioned the Noco LP20 doesn't like heat at the 140 f range. It seems like the batteries being housed above all the engine heat would be in that range of heat? Any issues so far?

Wouldn’t the battery monitor constantly drain the battery since it’s directly wired to 12v at all times? Also if you needed a jumpstart and the battery is dead wouldn’t it be more of a hassle to access the saddle bag door with no power to open it? You would have to use the emergency key slot above the license plate

The average current that the Battery tracker uses is only 1 Milliamp (1 MA). If your Lithium Battery is getting low on energy and needs a Charge you can set the Battery Tracker to Alert you by phone at any voltage you designate before you ever come back to a dead battery. On the Goldwing you must open the saddlebag door to takeoff the panel to access the battery but on my bike I also have two regular SAE connector plugs on the side of my seat that connects directly to my battery therefore I normally charge the motorcycle battery without opening the Saddlebag door. If the battery doesn't have enough voltage to crank the bike I can still open the electronic saddlebag door because a Lithium batteries will safely allow you to use 100% of its stored power down to zero but a Acid lead battery will only let you use 50% of its power to protect itself from damage. The Noco Cable is only optional for boosting off a battery, I still keep Alligator clip booster jumpers in my arsenal. Did I menion that the Noco NLP20 lithium Battery can be fully charged from 0.0% to 100% in only 42 minutes?

Thank you for the detailed response. Just a bit of info the yuasa oem battery at my dealer cost more than the noco Lithium battery. 189$ for the oem yuasa at dealer vs 169$ for noco with free ship

Removing the old 15 lb lead acid battery for a 3.73 lb battery is approximately 11.27 lbs of weight shaved, this may not seem like a big deal but the lighter weight can slightly reduce tire wear and increase the mpg somewhat!

@@chriscaliente5033 Myself and 10 of my friends and a big bunch of other people came up on a 2022 Tesla roasting nicely a few weeks ago when we were riding our bikes. The fire department was letting it burn while not letting it spread to the grass and other stuff that would burn. We watched it for a few minutes, then we left, but before we left, one of the firemen told us that their water supply would only make it worse...like tossing water on a grease fire.

@@chriscaliente5033 This is one of the videos I found using the lithium iron phosphate battery. It might be more safe than the Ion, but still...if something happens and it catches fire, you will not put it out.
