You use broad one - and i agree with you. Every nation and each people has it's spirit. People with mystic mind can say that even every object has it's spirit. I understand this man, l read this book by Pikul when I was studying at school, after that i become to see Serbia as our close friend. This book tells us about Serbia's history and about Russian Empire - Serbia relationships. Very close relationships. As Russian I can say that we really not know much about Serbia, but we know that they are our brothers. It's like a fact. But not for all, I speak about slavic Russians, Muslims usually hate Serbs and love Bosnian people. Don't know what Asian and other Russians think about them.

I love the Serbs, their culture, language, history and ethnic ties, the same goes for all south Slavs, being brothers with Serbia is the same as being good brothers with Croats, Bosnians, Slovenes, Montenegrins, Macedonians and Bulgarians. We are all Slavic, i have been to Serbia and Croatia and even Kosovo and north Macedonia and i relate to the people there a lot. from what that woman said that the southern Russian mentality is closer to Serbs, I agree to an extent. i come from the north west, just cold flat and swampy but the best way to look at a region is to just go there. i learned so much about Kosovo and Serbia by just going there. i plan to go to Bulgaria, Slovenia, Bulgaria and more of Greece to get the true Balkan perspective of everything.

I can say 100% that russia did help serbia w our war because as a child of 10 I seen the truck and tanks full of russian army going through our city of Bosanski Novi at that time. They spoke russian and gave us candy lol so nobody can say otherwise I seen It with my own eyes ... Now our city is called Novi grad it's republica srpska. The idea of pan-Slavism has been quite popular since the 18th century. In this age of blurring morals and identity, such an idea has a right to live. After all, our culture and language are very similar. Apart from religion, all Slavs have a lot in common. And the Serbs are our brothers. The West tried to break their back. But they are a stubborn and persistent people. I hope they don't bend, otherwise they will lose themselves and their culture. Man, that was street interview, people in front of cameras tend to get confused in short time they have to express themselves. I would like to see your answer in such conditions about Latvia... or Lithuania? A dose of arrogance expressed in laughing to others from secure environment is what wont make me subscribe. Sure there is huge difference in relationships of let's say Croats and Serbs toward Russians. So huge that it repeats for decades if not longer. hmmm.....Isnt it more like a kind of symbolic "brotherhood"between Russians and Serbs? I mean, yes from 1 side its understandable since both are Slavic speakers(with emphasize on SPEAKERS, I am not talking about DNA and so, because thats on a whole different level) and yes they are orthodox, other side is , so bulgarians are orthodox and greeks and romanians and georgians. There is a small group of Serbs that really are hardcore Russophiles, but if we look at teenagers in Serbia nowadays, but also their parents raised in Yugoslavia, many of them are raised with American movies, series, clothing, the Soft power of USA was very strong and it still is, (now if thats a good thing, I am not sure) Are there lots of people that watch Russian movies and read russian books? Well??? if so let me hear you!!! Next to this, Serbs emigrate to mostly western countries, their number 1 enemies, like Germany, Austria, USA, Canada, ....politics economy, its very hypocrite all together, and principles dont pay bills. Then Russia is in a way also too far to relate so much to them. I think We relate maybe more to Greece, or maybe even more to our former yugoslav neighbours, most of all them Montenegro and Bosnia, yes its not what most of us want to hear, but if we speak about culture then Serbs are more related to Bosnaks then to Russians. because their food, language, mentality is similar. I think its more about some brotherhood in theory than in real life. And Yes I ve heard that Many Russians dont even know where Serbia is.

Historical fact: bosnians and turks are not really bffs, but their connection is understandable. Ottoman empire ruled balkans for ages, which is when Islam was introduced to the Croats and Serbs living in Bosnia. Many of them were islamised and returned back to become soldiers, generals, pashas, agas, etc. Then came Austria-Hungary. They decided to make the Bosnian nation, so that they can easier control not only Bosnia, but Croatia as well, given that croatian autonomous region wanted unification with Dalmatian region and Bosnian region with croats in it. They also wanted to prevent connections to Serbia. However not only Serbs and Croats, but also Muslims refused to accept this, and therefore that plan has failed. The idea of Bosniak nation came to existence under Tito's Yugoslavia, when he created SR Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1945, alongside SR Montenegro and SR Macedonia. Then have the Bosniaks, or bosnian muslims, gained autonomy within Yugoslavia. That Bosniak nationality exists to this day.

Ok you raise one point, that quasi historians try to push(usually nationalistic agendas etc are involved). The real history isn't really hard to find, Yugoslav people are Slavic, southern Slavs like you said. We migrated form the Ukrainian steppes(Like many Slavic subcultures did) , while there are many theories on the genesis of the actual name "Serbia" one of the main theories suggests that Serbia is derived from the old Ukrainian/proto Slavic "Sŕbъ " meaning "He who was breastfed the same milk" or in more condensed modern terms "Brother/Kinsman"

Hello from Bulgaria . The reason most Russians give kind of a weird answer is because most Russians dont know almost anything about Serbia. I can say from expiriance because i've studied in Russia and cuz we have a lot of Russians in Bulgaria . Russians mostly know Bulgaria , Ukraine and Poland when it comes to other slavs .
