There was an old ass knight who was salty that guns were becoming popular. His own men blew his forearm off with a cannon on accident. Instead of giving up and surrendering to the power of the gun he had a blacksmith make an iron prosthetic that could grip his sword so he could keep fighting the guys with guns. He died in his own home of old age at 81.....in 1562. Most badass knight in German history. His name is Gotz von Berlichhingen, and he got his own movie. He is attributed to the phrase "Er kann mich em arsch lecken." or "He can lick my ass" commonly referred to in english as "Kiss my ass".

Yes, the Ptolemaic dynasty's family tree was absolutely the first thing that popped into my head. The original Arsinoe came from one of the other Greek kingdoms (might've been Anatolia, or Macedonia, I forget which), and married the Ptolemy who was head-honcho in Egypt at the time. So far so normal. But then their kids, Ptolemy and Arsinoe, didn't want to have to fight each other for the throne, so they came up with an arrangement whereby they could share power, by... getting married. Yup. Apparently it worked so well, that the next generation decided to repeat it, and it became tradition. By the time Cleopatra I Syra arrived (from the Seleucid kingdom), the tradition was sufficiently established that they felt it was necessary for the Ptolemy at that time to officially adopt her as his "sister", so that he could marry her. I kid you not. And then the tradition continued. The famous Cleopatra that you've all heard of? Yeah, she was Cleopatra VII. Now, there was no DNA paternity testing technology at the time, so it's entirely possible that some of the generations had surreptitious injections of non-family DNA (a rare case where adultery might actually have been a good thing for everyone concerned, because yikes). But if so, they covered it up, and there's no surviving record of that happening. As far as we know, that family tree was pretty much a straight line.

The HMS Rodney story reminded me of a joke: Angus was sitting by himself, in the tavern. Talking to no one in particular, just ranting at the world: I have built fifteen bridges over streams, in this county. Am I Angus the Bridge Builder? NOOO! I have built ten miles worth of stone walls, in this county. Am I Angus the Wall Builder? NOOO! I have quarried the stone for a third of the buildings, in this county. Am I Angus the Stonecutter? NOOO! But when I f@ck one sheep!

@@keylimetea Not sure on the first bit but the plant was called Silphium, it was also supposed to be an aphrodisiac and appears in a fair amount of mosaics and other decorative things. It basically went extinct because outside of this like one place in modern-day Libya, it couldn't be domesticated.

Addition to Cicciolina: her interest in politics might be explained by her upbringing. To quote Wikipedia: _Ilona was born in Budapest, Hungary. Her father, László Staller,[2] left the family when she was young. She was raised by her mother, who was a midwife, and her stepfather, who was an official in the Hungarian Ministry of the Interior._ _In 1964, she began working as a model for the Hungarian news agency, M.T.I. In her memoirs and in a 1999 TV interview, she claimed that she had provided the Hungarian authorities with information on American diplomats staying at a Budapest luxury hotel where she worked as a maid in the 1960s.[3] By the age of 25, and during her hotel work, she met an older Italian national named Salvatore Martini whom she later married in 1968.[4]._

I find the one about Patton hard to believe. if he were a nazi, why would he be killing german and itallian POWs? I know he wasn't any angel, he treated soldiers who were shell-shocked and who had PTSD horribly. But even that's kind of understandable since we didn't even diagnose people with PTSD until around five years after the vietnam war. (1980)

The condom story. The version I have, remembering that Russia was an ally and rubber was a strategic materiel. The Russians put in an indent for a lot of condoms. Churchill had to approve large uses of rubber and it came to him. He approved, on condition that the condoms were labelled 'British Made - Small Size'.

As someone who plays Azur Lane(go look it up if yall wanna know what it is) for 4 years, I haven't seen anyone say once that one of Rodney's crew banged a sheep or that because of that, she got baaaaaaaaaa'ed at by other ship crews. Kinda makes me feel bad for her. Also kinda makes me wish I could go back and slap those idiots for being idiots to her. Nelson on the other hand though....meh. They could bleat at her all they wants(she's a bit annoying)

In fairness, Grigori Rasputin was not evil. History has made a lot of claims, not substantiated. Rasputin's danger was his 'power' over the Tsarina. Grigori was recommending political appointments et al. The Tsar was away with WW1. Prince Yusopov did not like him and conspired to kill him.

Not sure about historically accurate but there is a story in the bible where a guy was put to death for refusing to impregnate his dead brothers widow. There is also a story of a widow who secretly prostituted herself out to seemingly the next living male relative of her husband. Because she had legally married into that bloodline, her execution was called off and he was legally obliged to marry her. In biblical times, women did have rights... they just usually just revolved more around making sure she could have children rather than avoiding death.

Half of these are hilariously wrong the other half are probably exaggerated. Rasputin was murdered buy nobility because of his closeness to the queen and his influence on policy. It's also suspected that most of the story is completely false
