what’s a POTATO ricer (why would you use one)

I sure hoped you cleaned your sink thoroughly before straining the boiled potatoes. I see water backed up into the actual potatoes which could cause foodborne illness. I usually pour a little at a time and keep the strainer a little off center from the drain to make sure it doesn't get that water backup.

i always think about that too...Maybe one could put the colander on something raised up, like an upside-down large metal bowl, or something else...Maybe a cake pan...It could also be made of heat-proof glass...
