Today I received a Zine from my eleven year old grandaughter. She drew things along with writing her story. I remembered watching your video, so cane back for another look. She actually sent me the origional. I love watching her artistic talent grow. So fun.

I consider myself new to journaling, just a year or two. This is the first I've heard of this, but they are adorable and so sweet. Wonder how many other new people ever heard of them? If another swap comes up, I'm in for a go. Thanks for teaching me something new today.

These are AWESOME! I made zines for all my nieces and nephews for Christmas with their photos. I made tuck spots for cash and put a ribbon at the top so they could be hung as ornaments, too.

This video filled me with such love. I was WAY into zines & mail art in the late 80s and early 90s, and created a few myself. Life got busy and I drifted away. Frankly I though the scene died, especially with the Internet. Holy moly am I wrong. It's bursting with more energy than I imagined. 💕

Very fun and so expressive! How is each page decorated? Is patterned paper glued to each page or spread?
@MargareteMiller5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Cut and paste, just like a regular collage. The sky's the limit, really, as far as ideas. Whatever you can envision, is what you can do.
@susannahfaith73225 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I'm super new to all this and thought I might have a go! I'm a little confused on the order in which to do things, can you help with that please? I have been fiddling for days and really haven't gotten it right yet. Also, do you have a type of paper to suggest for the master? Mixed media paper does not like to fold! Thanks😁
@MargareteMiller5 жыл бұрын
Hi Susannah, I like plain copy paper. It doesn't really matter how thin it is because you are creating a "master" that will then be copied and reproduced. As regards to order, in the video I show how you can number the pages to figure out where your layouts will be. That's the most important thing to know. From there you can start to play around with ideas of what you'd like to do with those pages. Hope that helps.
@susannahfaith73225 жыл бұрын
@@MargareteMiller thank you it does kind of help, at least for part of it. I've watched the video about 5 times (love) as reference and all. I'm guessing that you've created a background on the (copy)paper before ever a fold or snip was made, then began to create the folds, spreads and all that. The idea of numbering was brilliant! It really kept me from getting lost, thanks!
@NellieandRuthDesigns Жыл бұрын
Hey Margarete.....loved this video and I'll def have to try; these are adorable. You mentioned photo copying them, can I ask why you do that? Thanks so much ~Barbie
@MargareteMiller Жыл бұрын
Hi Barbie, so you make an original, and it's the copies that you send out to others when you exchange. You keep the copy as your master, if you need to make more copies later.

When these are made from a single sheet, what I am bothered by is the paper where there is separation due to folding. Can you glue those? I like the concept of a sheet of paper but I don’t like the additional page that is caused by the fold. I hope that makes sense.
@MargareteMiller Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a bit of separation. I have learned to accept the imperfections. It's part of the charm! If you use thinner copier paper, you will have more control of the folding. 👍🏼
@justlittleoleme85555 жыл бұрын
My question is, after you make the photocopy, do you need to cut the top of that before you fold it?
@MargareteMiller5 жыл бұрын
No, you don't need to cut anything. If there's a white "frame" around your print, that's fine. I use that space to write my name and date, but sometimes people use colored markers to fill it in. Hope that helps.

They are wonderful and clever too! I will look forward to making some and swapping! I was wondering if the back sides could be done too? Wouldn't that be fun. But it might make it too bulky.
@MargareteMiller5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it has to be single sided. It would get complicated to fold and unfold to see the other side. :-)

@barrylytle51183 жыл бұрын
My I ask, why do you photocopy the zine after your done?

You copy it because it's the copies that you send out to people to exchange. You keep the master for yourself to make more copies in the future if needed.
