For anyone who’s grown up between cultures or as a mixed child, what’s the best and most challenging part? How did it impact your identity?
@rmot2911Ай бұрын
Well, I was born in Nigeria like my brother because our parents were working there as Medical Doctors though mom, dad are Indians (bro, sis, sis-in-law, niece and nephew are American Citizens where niece and nephew were born in America while I am Australian Citizen). Bro and I grew up in Nigeria, Ireland, Oman, India, etc while sis was born in India but hardly lived there as she lived mostly in Oman and USA. Out of the 3 of us, I was bullied the most and bullying is quite common amongst kids worldwide though sometimes those bullies change as adults while other times, may not. The only challenging part was losing friends and then acquiring friends when land in other nations but that's part and parcel of life because as kids, we tend to go for more friends as we don't look at much quality but look more at quantity of friends while as adults, we tend to pick and choose with regards to quality. For me, the multicultural background was never a problem though I had to slowly learn who I was including family I come from because I come from a multicultural, mutiracial, multireligious and global family especially thanks to my mom's side of the family though my dad's side of the family too has it where I do have 1st cousins, other cousins, uncles, aunts, granduncles, etc who are Citizens of USA, Canada, Australia, India, Oman, UAE, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, S Africa, Jordan, UK, Norway, Denmark, etc. Most of us are Christians including Catholics Protestants Orthodox and Oriental Christians though there are a couple of family members who are Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Muslims, Atheists, Agnostics, etc. I am a 3rd culture kid like my brother and sister where we are all global citizens too. Anyway, Reality is Nobody in this World is Pure Blood as we are all Mixed blood with mixed culture unless we are from the uncontactable tribes like the Sentinelese tribes because even Indigenous People have Mixed Blood Mostly. India via the Indian subcontinent has the 2nd Most Mixed Ancestry in the World by % and numbers proved by DNA after the Africans while India via the Indian subcontinent also has the 2nd Most Indigenous People in the World after the Chinese by numbers and %. SE Asia including Vietnam has a Lot of Mixed Ancestry with Both Indian Subcontinent people and Chinese due to SE Asia being part of the Sinosphere and Indosphere before the Indian Subcontinent Kingdoms ruled parts of Sri Lanka, Central Asia, SE Asia including Vietnam via Cambodia Indonesia etc which is also why Buddhism-Hinduism spread from Indian Subcontinent to China, Sri Lanka before spreading to SE Asia including India (Central and Southern Part of Vietnam has been linked to India via Cambodia, etc). It's only in the last 500 years or so, Westerners landed in SE Asia, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada as before that, even via Trade it was Mostly between Asia and Africa while West was trading a lot more with the Arabs, Africans, Indian Subcontinent.

Am I tripping or Behati speaks English with a hint of Vietnamese influence, e.g. using singular form for plural nouns, pronouncing the word "Vietnamese" as "Vietnamee", etc. No disrespect though just curious

I am thinking of moving to Vietnam to become an English teacher. I would love to hear more about African Americans in the teaching field in Vietnam.

It’s doable , I’m from South Africa and I’m currently teaching in Vietnam so if you’re worried about the “African” part do not stress. I’m often mistaken for African American and when I let them know I’m just straight African they don’t care either way you’re a foreigner lmao

@@skyetran I,just had a hard time figuring him out. I have a half Vietnamese daughter in the States and she looks American and most people never thought she was Vietnamese. She has light skin and brown hair. They realized she was also half Vietnamese when they met her Mom. We used to laugh about it. Her teacher in School was Vietnamese and never knew my Daughter was Vietnamese,until she met my wife and I at a School function. We all laughed because my daughter speaks Vietnamese too. She has never had a problem that I know of with her identity.
