The talk was great but I think it's simplistic to assume that coming up with new antibiotics is sufficient to tackle the problem. Bacteria multiply and acquire resistance in minutes. New drugs take years to come to market. He should have put more emphasis on what we can do to slow down the pace at which bacteria acquire resistance.

Disappointed he totally ignored the rampant sub-therapeutic use of antibiotics in animal agriculture. Ag uses 80% of USA antibiotics mostly to counter overcrowded, unsanitary conditions and to encourage unnatural growth. If we ate mostly vegan, animal agriculture would dwindle thus helping to fend off a major contributor to super bugs -- not to mention making a big dent in chronic illnesses that are forcing our healthcare system into bankruptcy.
