The tipping problem is one of the most confusing thing to me. What is worse is waiters DEFENDING that shit because they are conditioned to believe they would get LESS on an hourly wage. I discussed this with some people before on Reddit and they genuinely believed their salary is all they would get. No hon, we still get tips too.

Netherlands here. In my country, a minimum wage is really the minimum you should receive per hour. It is punishable to do less than that as an employer. I think this is valid throughout Europe. There is no point in setting something up and mentioning the minimum wage if there are exceptions! Then nothing has been set and you cannot speak of "we have a minimum wage" that is valid by and for every state.

So, my mum built a house (obviously not she herself) about a decade ago, and they take the landscaping very seriously where she lives, so first thing they were preparing the soil, then sowed the grass, ventilated the whole lawn regularly and did everything. Fast forward to now: Most part of the former grass lawn is now clover. Just happens because it's more resilient, just like the lady explained. I love, love, love it. Clover is a darker, more saturated green, it flowers, where's clover, there's bumblebees (that's actually a saying/ aphorism (maybe I created it)), it's just lovely 😍 Of course the grass- lawn- people hate it, and for the life of me I don't know why - it's just lovely, like a meadow - if you don't breed horses in your yard - there's really zero need for maintaining grass 💁🏻♀️💐

I'm Canadian and if you tried to supplement wages from tips here you'd have the government coming down on you cause that's not allowed. Very few places in Canada actually pay min wage anyway cause our market is more competitive so to try to recruit workers they raise the pay a little bit. The fact I can afford an apartment, food, and still have money leftover on social support (which is infamous for being barely above poverty line in Canada) and I still have it better than many part time workers and even some full-time workers in US is insanity.

Yes, the tipping system in the USA, it alone is inhumane and an absolute impertinence that employees have to live off tips. What does the restaurant do when all the employees don't go to work and the boss is alone in the restaurant, close the store or throw them out, they can't afford it as greedy as they are. Maybe they'll find out and ask why. Yes, pay your employees better, they work their asses off and you earn the big bucks.

Well many of the EU countries have Unions that actually have powers to negotiate. Whilst in US the companies refuse to do so and the goverment have no powers to force them and US workers seem to be shut down or are just quiet giving up hope. In Sweden it is the Union and the companies that negotiate the salary together to decide the minimum which works fine, until companies like TESLA show up at our door and feel they dont need to care about that. Which is mindboggling.

Just think about that : If your waiters get paid fairly, you maybe loose your so beloved "free refills" that you always tell the rest of the world, where waiters get paid correctly, are such a great thing in the US. Or the other way around, your out of control tipping fees is maybe what we pay if we want to have some extra drinks. But also in the end, if we go into a restaurant we maybe drink beer or wine, and i don't think you get that as free refills at all.

In Sweden, the average salary for waiters/waitresses is currently around $32,000 per year according to the union's statistics (the hotel and restaurant union, to which most belong). In addition to this comes compensation for inconvenient working hours, i.e. höidays, evenings and nights of between $2.5 and $5 per hour worked depending on what days and hours you work. Of course, everyone in the industry is also entitled to necessary sick days, five weeks of paid vacation and 280 days of paid parental leave according to Swedish law. If you only work during a certain season (for example a summer job), the leave is usually paid as a supplement to the last salary for the time worked. The salary for the very young (16 - 18) and completely inexperienced is of course lower, but never even close to what you in the US call minimum wage. It is also fixed and not dependent on tips at all, and all the other rules apply here as well. Tipping in Sweden is completely voluntary and always personal, however employees are expected to report the extra income in their tax declaration. Despite all of the above, we have plenty of McDonalds in Sweden, all of which follow the collective agreement 😉.

On the last one, with the wrong product received, I’m not sure if there’s a law on that here in The Netherlands/Europe, but I’ve have different experiences with different companies, once a company asked me to return the item, but said if I showed them the receipt/proof of sending the item, they’d refund me the shipping cost and they did plus when the correct item arrived they put in a small extra gift as an apology for messing up the first time, so that was pretty cool of them. But most of the time, they just let you keep the wrong item and they’ll send you the correct one free of charge.

In France we do have a minimum wage for waiters, which is... low, but fairly decent in comparison to the USA. And guess what ? People still tip good waiters. It is a common practice to give something, a few euros or more (if the service was really amazing). But not like a giagantic proportion of your meal's worth (what is it in the USA I don't remember, 15% ? 20% ?). So no, if you have a better hourly rate for waiters, the tips probably won't disappear entirely.

Maybe the woman that talks about birthcontrol means the trans community?! Wild guess, not sure if that is what she means 😆
@mortisrat5 ай бұрын
You asked what she meant about men being told to get vasectomies... Women have access to loads of birth control, both hormonal and NON HORMONAL (for those wingeing minnies who say it's not fair to put it on women because *ohh the hormones*). It's free. Most of it cannot be tampered with by someone else. Most cannot be detected by someone else (only a downside for men who can be raped, as they cannot know when it's removed). Most of this is as/more effective than a vasectomy. All can be quickly and easily reversed. In the very, ridiculously, highly unlikely event of that failing or being forgotten, there is then plan B / the morning after pill. Which only women have any say in. Failing all else, there is then abortion. Which only women have any say in. I've never, even once, met a child-free women with children. Every child-free man I know has kids. *by child free, I mean who didn't want them - not those who ended up not having them by circumstance Despite all of this, should you ever suggest that those with all of the power, and all of the control actually take some REAL responsibility - you get shot down and told that the man had exactly the same degree of responsibility. He should have got a vasectomy if he didn't want a kid yet / want a kid with her. HE should have been able to find a doctor who was willing to perform a vasectomy on someone VERY young and with no kids (good luck with that). If he didn't want kids ever, he should have done it in his teens. So, if, for example, a man is in a long term relationship - but not at the 'planning a life and kids with her YET' stage, and agrees with their partner not to use condoms (because neither like them, so why not discuss family planning options aside from that?) and she decides she wants a baby and removes her contraception without consent... nobody will have any issue with this. If he acts unhappy then he'll be vilified. He MUST put up, shut up and pay up to be socially acceptable. Most people think this is just fine. His fault as much as hers for not getting a vasectomy or informing his long term partner 'I don't trust you not to rape me, so we'll have to use condoms every time, regardless'. Men only have condoms. If they remove them without consent, they go to jail for rape. Sounds super fair, right?
@elpis_ezechiel5 ай бұрын
I somehow agree with your comment, as the burden of birth control has often been put on women (for the good and the worse). However it's not as one-sided as you seem to make it. Women usually have the most options available (though it's not as easy as it sounds if you have issues with one type, as not all of them are available or at a fair price everywhere, it's still very much a problem in many places), but also have the all of the consequences (sides effects - even non-hormonal contraceptions can have them, responsibility, and pregnancy, if it fails - wether you can or want an abortion, it's still a big thing for your health and so). "and she decides she wants a baby and removes her contraception without consent... nobody will have any issue with this." Well, no. In some places removing contraception without consent is considered rape (whether he or she is the one removing it without consent), as consent for a protected intercourse and consent for an unprotected intercourse are two different things. There are many groups of people (antifeminists, for example) that want you to believe that these victims are ignored or even villified, and it's not necessary the case. Sure, some people will say it's not a big deal, no matter the "side" they're in. Some people will also got to great lenghts to protect them, no matter the "side" they're in. These are complex and touchy subjects and I feel like a youtube comment section is no good place to talk about it no matter how detailed and nuanced one tries to be. (I tried to write a lot of different things but I can't bring my point in a satisfactory way - also English is not my mother tongue so there's that.) There are other options being tested as we speak and that show promising results, or already available : contraceptive ring, hormonal gels or injections, etc. Studies that are currently made are having difficulties due to the lack of volunteers for testing phases (I find that a deeply sad thing). Furthermore, condoms are the only thing that can protect you from STDs. The big problem with vasectomy is that it's NOT a contraceptive, it is a sterilization. Same as having your tube tied. It should not be advertised as reversible or a contraception, it is not.

Personally I don't think we should sell animals period because that feels really weird. You're basically putting a price in animal lives and turning living things into goods. The whole concept is weird to me. Many pets are like family, put it in the context that you're buying a family member and you see how weird it is. While I am 100% against forced breeding between animals I will just say mixed breeding happens between animal species in the wild too, it's not exclusive to human engineering.

The whole rant about "identity theft" is a little pointless in the digital age where every private corporation has your information from many illegal data brokers anyway.
