Of the 9 Ryck dealers in the USA, it happens one of them is based 10 miles from me. Even tho' I would have to do some boat mods to suit my weekending needs in the Keys & islands, I'm going to contact this dealer to see when/if he plans to present a Ryck in this area. That is directly due to your many adventure boat reviews, Dan, and the Ryck videos you have provided us. Once again, many thanks Dan.

Great review Dan and yes this adventure boat style is now very popular and perfect for the type of boating we do here in Sydney (and I'm sure elsewhere). Having grown up with a Riveria 3000 that was very practical for day trips, these new adventure boats stood out. So much so I purchased a Nimbus T9 after seeing your review and also having the opportunity to compare it to the equivalent Saxdor and Axopar in person. The Nimbus T9 is a similar cost to this Ryck 280 as tested and actually quite similar in design layout. What got me over the line with the Nimbus is the superior build quality over the Saxdor and like you said in this video the superior volume over the Axopar equivalent allowing you to spend a more comfortable day out on the harbor with friends. Keep up the good work with the reviews and pointing out the positives and negatives when you see them.

Great feedback Matt! I really enjoy hearing these stories from you guys and I was already imagining that a Nimbus would be a perfect upgrade from a Riv 3000 so to hear it's happenning is awesome. Enjoy the upcoming summer!

the biggest issue in this class is pricing on trendy grounds, too many boats are marketed to so called superyacht owners as tenders, too many are priced way too high at a million or so, when they really aren't worth half that, even this boat is a big wedge for what you get.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
We have seen a considerable price jump in Australia across all categories since 2020 so yes thats correct. We are also however seeing a huge influx of big boats and super yacht owners buying boats in this size as runabouts. I think for the time being the average income earner in Australia won't be buying boats considering house prices are 13x more than income, so if i was a boat factory i'd focus my attention on the top end. We will probably see more boat share and club style ownership take off for young people.

U say day boat all the time me and my crew (3 dogs), could live on any thing with a sleeper cabin we cruised around northwest United States in an 18 foot camper and a pickup truck, (i rhink y'all say caravan), for 5 years (im retired). so many of your shows have had boats we'ed live on. Ive tried it for 2 weeks on an older cabin boat a couple summers ago, just to see how my crew would handle it. they loved it. keeping their mess cleaned up was easier than i thought. they all got used to using the rear platform more readily than i expected. they were no problem at all. and they always got excited, everytime, i got out the fishing gear

Thats awesome! I would love to try some extended adventures on smaller boats! I sailed my Folkboat 26 160NM offshore back to Sydney last October and we had a great adventure. # guys living and sailing on the boat with a decent blow on the first night sirfing down 4m waves in the dark. Was epic. Just proves no matter the size of the boat we can still make it fun hey!

I really like it, just the big decision over Saxdor, Axopar etc is the price. But a hot day boat with overnight capability
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
Yes something to consider for sure! This Ryck when compared to the Saxdor and Axopar is by far the most spacious below so if thats important to you then add this to your list of options.

I realize that it's not in purvey of reviews, but the build quality of this v. the Axopar as example would be a huge consideration along with expendable seating etc.. The Axopar doesn't age well.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
In future I would like to review 5 year old boats when I've grown this channel. You're right about the Axopar re aging. They are still a fantastic ride however.
@KenFriisHansen Жыл бұрын
I have been waiting for you to do a comparison. I would be wanting a social day/weekend boat and don't like the seating arrangements on Axopar/Saxdor, and we prefer a separate heads compartment. On the balance, I think the Dromeas does this for significantly less than the Ryck, but since I haven't seen the boat, I wonder if it's a case of "you get what you pay for"? Is the Ryck really that better quality?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
So I have done a test of the Dromea in some big seas which you can find on my channel and I think that brand has future potential. The Ryck has a more spacious cabin below and the seating arrangement is also larger on ther Ryck so when comparing them side by side the Ryck does have more space. The Dromea however is also advertising a whole range of boats where the Ryck is still just building the one model. I'm told more are coming but would be great to see more as they are a big German manufacturer and I think if I had a complaint it would be that they have not communicated to the market where the brand is going and what we can expect from them next? Looking at the build quality yes I could see some nicer finishes on the Ryck when I pulled up the floors but on deck they would both be comparable.
@KenFriisHansen Жыл бұрын
Thank you Dan, I have watched the Dromeas 28WA videos 3-4 times. Keep up to good work, and thank you for adding pricing, even if it differs from country to country it's good to know the order of magnitude

Great thorough review but you didn't mention it the cabin is air conditioned. Considering that those port holes below don't open and are just for light, you'd probably have to leave the hatches open and run a fan and then you'd worry about water ingress if you get some rain. Wonderful basic platform for the way that normal guys use a boat. Drive, sit, drink, grill and maybe pass out for a couple hours from too much drink.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
Yeah fair point. This boat didn't have A/C and I suspect you would have enough room to install a unit under the v-berth in the cabin and run it via an inverter and lithium. Good points though
@jacktyler7599 Жыл бұрын
Appreciate the question; surviving a night below in warm climates is rarely addressed. If I was doing a few nights aboard, I would start by partially opening the hatch and rigging a small rain shade, bungeed forward to the guardrails. Shading the foredeck, apparently an option, would help heat build up during the day. I view these boats as too 'storage limited' for conventional marine A/C + inverter/lithium. I'd opt for a Zero Breeze, which should work well in that small cabin.

Morning Dan.... Easy answer to the question you posed at the beginning of this video and a boat I'm now delving into a little deeper? Wellcraft 355. Damn Yanks.... They can build a boat! (Or rip off the latest 'must have adventure style boat' and make it better, semantics'!) 😉

Great review Dan! Do you think that these boats, in this style, are a conspiracy to obtain increased mooring fees at the marina by being longer and thinner?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
I doubt it. The industry is not well enough organised to achieve such a co-ordinated move. But these adventure style hulls do actually provide multiple benefits over traditional day boat hull shapes so if you get an opportunity take one for a spin and you see what i mean.

Can you tow that size of boat or you need to keep it into the marina
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
Depends on your state regulations. Here in NSW (Australia) you would likely need a wide load permit and an American ute with bigger towing capacity than a Hilux or Land Cruiser.

I wouldn't even call this an adventure boat - no enclosed cabin, no aluminium or steel hull. What makes you think this is an adventure boat? This boat design (so including Axopar, Saxdor, what have you) is not for me as there is no view of water from the cabin. Really don't want to look at the bullwalk from my windows. Still waiting for your Parker 850 Voyager review 😉 So much more interesting than this.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Жыл бұрын
So it's the hull form that makes me classify it in the adventure category. These cutting bow with air steps allow the operator to travel further, faster and use less fuel in rougher conditions so it opens up a wider area of operations when compared to other hull forms - thats what I mean. Yes adding enclosed cabins and protection really starts to make it a more of an all-season boat and explorer friendly I agree. The styling is always personal so these won't be for everyone and thats ok too. You and many more people have asked me to check out the Parker so I am going to make an effort to meet the local Parker dealers at Sydney Boat Show next week and see what I can organise.
@TheUrbanEpicure Жыл бұрын
@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Ok, thanks for elaborating. Maybe ".. with an adventure hull" would have been a more fitting video title then, I think most people do associate closed cabins and more sturdy hulls with the term adventure. Ah, that's cool that you're trying to get the Parker on the channel 👍 You never talk about pricing in your videos, likely to the wide spread of your viewership and varying prices between the continents, but I think for a Parker video it would really make sense to research and give the different prices, it's such a strong value brand, and people will be very interested in what the pricing is.
