There was a recent Castlevania DS collection. Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection has NES, SNES, and Gameboy. Rare Replay emulates NES and N64 and that's not even available on a Nintendo console.

The change to reveal classic Robotnik, after his boss battle doesn't really work. While the game didn't go out of it's way to hide the fact that he was in there, it did try to tease at it. In the cut scene right before the final fight, he gets a dramatic reveal by Eggman. Younger Tails calls "Dr. Robotnik!" out of surprise, and in response, the younger villain says, "Nobody calls me that anymore." with a dismissive hand wave. It was meant as another easter egg, to touch up on the change of names he went through from SA1-2 and onward. Just showing him out in the open kind of kills the "surprise" in a sense. We knew it was him, even back then, but getting the build up to seeing him modelled and voiced along with the rest of the cast was a fun treat.

I agree that classic robotnik being taken like that doesn’t work as well in terms of the final reveal, but at the same time the scene is really awkward in the originally without him there, like it's focusing on the orb that is Robotnik like you should be able to see him but can't. I think the way to make it work would've been add it but keep him as a silhouette or something idk

18:13 that's because in the scene after Egg Dragoon fight, Tails thinks that Eggman was already kidnapped, not realissing that this one was Classic Eggman, so his reveal in the Time Eater fight was supoose to be a surprise.

When it comes to the spindash jump for classic sonic, you can actually do it, but you need to delay the jump for a second. It’s something I use often for classic sonic, but it definitely takes a second to get used to. It’s genuinely overpowered in some levels too

It makes complete sense why the drop dash is a skill for Classic. This is Generations, it takes place before Mania where Classic first used or learned the drop dash. We know this because Mania ties into Forces and Generations is referenced to take place before Forces and therefore Mania. Makes sense why Modern would know it already but why Classic wouldn't in what is supposed to be a game pre Mania. Then again they did add it to the original games in Origins so I guess they're just randomly choosing to be lore accurate now.

I love the Drop Dash. It's such a game changher. It's fine with Modern Sonic but it's actually peak and SOOO fun with Classic Sonic. I'm so glad it was in every new main Sonic game (Forces, Frontiers, Suprstars) and that it was retroactively added in all main classic games and now Generations. I really love it

as silly as it is, i feel the reason knuckles no longer hits the tree in remastered generations ( 13:41 ) is because of the added chao in the cutscene. if he hit the tree, they might've been scared !! or something to that extent. i ♥️ chao and they're always a joy to see :)

Yeah exactly. its like they are retconning character growth to try and make these characters static and boring. But even then SA1 already did this arc. and then frontiers did it and now generations act like it some how happened before? Like they can't keep repeating this arcs from SA 1, They need to make up their mind. the reason the story feels so stale is because they aren't allowing the characters to grow properly or to grow beyond this. Like give something new for amy or whoever to do. This is why I like the movies so much because they are actually giving some good characterizations for the sonic characters and allowing them to grow.

It's worth noting that on PC, this is more or less the same game with just a few quality of life changes. The original version of Generations on Steam could already be played at up to 4K 60fps, but the new version puts the video settings in the pause menu rather than having a separate configuration program. Other than that, it's really just the drop dash, collectible chao, and the dialogue differences.

i really think they should've just done a shadow 05 level instead of chaos island. i like chaos island and all but shadow 05 has absolutely no level representation in shadow gens and that really disappoints me. i think something like the black comet as his penultimate level would've been both a great callback and a much cooler way to introduce doom morph (maybe using that red sludge you could roll through in shadow 05)

As for why Classic Sonic's physics aren't a perfect replication of the Genesis games is because they had to approximate them using the modern engine. If it were a classic only game, I feel it'd probably be easier to replicate the old physics

I wished they changed how Sonic Generations Time Eater fight played. It still feels incredibly janky, boring, lasts way too long, the "warnings" get old very quickly from Sonic's friends, and nothing about the fight feels intuitive. Lastly, the boss music feels repetitive, which is annoying when it can take easily over 11 minutes to beat the boss. At least they fixed Shadow's out of character line to Sonic before the boss fight begins. "You've got this, Sonic." sounds like a line Shadow would never say directly to Sonic under any circumstances. It still bugs me that Shadow, Silver, Blaze, and Knuckles do not try to go Super with the Sonics. As far as I know, at least in the games, there doesn't seem to be an established limit as to how many can go Super at the same time.

I gotta say, i'm a bit surprised. Before releasing this video, i was under the impression that people liked Frontiers' combat. And i can't tell you how many times i've seen people complain about the Werehog. But this is the 3rd comment yet shutting down that idea

@@BobbyBionic the Frontiers combat is cool, but it doesn’t have as much depth as the Werehog’s combat has. The only people complaining are the ones that just mash and ignore the list of unique moves. Also, the Frontiers combat controls are weird and annoying. I could be trying to boost away from an enemy because I’m not in the mood to fight them only to get launched towards them and suddenly be doing a random attack. Personally I would prefer that they just kept the combat the same if we did ever get an Unleashed remake/remaster (Along with the dialogue).

Understandable. But i'm also not suggesting they just copy and paste the same combat from Frontiers. It would have to be designed to fit within the scope of that game. I don't personally hate the Unleashed combat, but it's by far the most complained about thing when it comes to that game, and my fear is that Sega would be hesitant to re-release it in it's original state when everybody already groans about the combat. If it's done right, there could be a happy medium between what's already in Unleashed and what could be adjusted.

I wonder if you'll see the differences in dialogue between the JP and ENG. The JP version of the Chemical Plant cutscene after ACT 2 is super obvious. Both Sonic and Tails speak of the liquid in Chemical Plant, but the dialogue is vastly different. I'm sure the subtitles only do the ENG subtitles.

Did you forget to talk about Right There, Ride On's removal after showing the footage of it at the start? Song was also missing in Smash Ultimate. I'd say it's a rights thing, but the composer said Sega had the rights I think, and I wasn't sure if its samples were also fair game or not from discussions. Seeing Classic Eggman in the cutscene I think technically takes away from the surprise of him being revealed in the climax, but I guess that's common knowledge now, so why not shake it up a little? Emulated Sonic 1's maintained absence makes unfortunate sense considering the classic games' delistings for Sonic Origins, but besides that I remember it having some kind of speed or audio or PAL bug or something, at least in the PS3 version of Generations I got from an American Humble Bundle.

I noticed out of the unlockable BGMs from previous games in Sonic Generations in Sonic X Shadow Generations Right There, Ride On the theme to Leaf Storm zone from Sonic Rush was replaced with Westopolis from Shadow The Hedgehog. Ironically both games were released the same day in 2005 but I feel they should've just replaced the main theme I Am because it's included on the soundtrack that comes with it and omits anything from Sonic Rush.

35:47 Yeah, this is pretty accurate, as someone that prefers the 2d games. I would also include Mania since I think that's the 2nd best Sonic game. I think they really improved Generations by releasing an expansion with the remaster. It tackles a more palpable story, with more unique levels and a hub world that takes advantage of the controls. That pretty much solves the main complaints people had on this game, which makes it an excellent title with little to complain about.

Yeah, it was just for visual. I wasn't trying to imply that path in Sky Sanctuary is impossible to get through, just that a double jump would make things flow nicer. Now the footage at 6:50 I know for a fact is held down the full time, where it looks like a fully pressed jump would clear it. Also 7:08 is definitely fully held. The water seems to have some effect in this boss fight, but the strange part is if you go into Chemical Plants water Sonic's jump is at least equal to his dry jump.

The challenges are realistically this game's meat and potatoes. I guess it makes you thought the game was "short" when in fact it's still the longest game to complete in the series after Frontiers. And to be honest most of the challenges were a blast. The problems the game has also plague the main stages, it's not like we can ignore them just because we're not doing challenges. Playing this after Shadow Gens highlighted just how poorly Modern Sonic controls without some proper readjustment. Plus, Classic Sonic is really good but its stages really feel like every platform is just barely within your reach, something i didn't feel at all with modern Sonic, even with his pityful jump. Still a very good game but putting this next to Shadow Gens doesn't do it any favours.

I wouldn't really consider challenges that are 90% optional to be the meat and potatoes of the game. The main levels and the cutscenes that follow are what drives the story forward. Though we're on the same page about them increasing play time 29:40 . I did enjoy some of the challenges, but the better ones were also bogged down by the not-so-good ones. I feel they could have trimmed the fat a bit. I just think about how much better the game could be if instead of the time spent on challenges, we had an additional level for each era. That would increase playtime and feel more substantial. Though it's clear the challenges are a way to reuse assets in a new way, so i get why it is the way it is. And i didn't mean we should just ignore the issues while not in challenges. 31:36 The point i was making is that when you have a specific goal with a time limit tacked on, that makes the issues stand out more cause one wrong move could lead you to a restart. Those same movement issues can be present in a level, but a momentary slip up won't be much more than a slight inconvenience since there's not a whole lot on the line. But it is of course present throughout the game. I'm glad i started with Sonic's game first, cause it would be quite the adjustment going from a full Shadow playthrough then to the Sonic one. I could feel the difference immediately when starting with Shadow. Just shows how much it's improved since 2011

The portion about collecting rings also doesn't make sense because he doesn't "put" them anywhere or "collect" them necessarily. Rings are chaos energy, and only really are "grabbed" in Western-based Sonic media. Otherwise, they "disappear" into Sonic in all other media, being just pure chaos energy. This is also why you need 50 to use a super form, and why they "randomly disappear" as it's used. You're charging the chaos emeralds using rings.

Classic Sonic's DropDash being a skill instead of a part of his base moveset makes sense chronologically in Gens. Classic Sonic in Gens is Sonic from 1 & 2. He didn't learn Drop Dash until Mania. And speaking of Classic's DropDash, it kinda feels underpowered. As in, it has the same strength as a 1 tap charge spin dash which isn't enough to make it through even the smallest of loops. It's not the monster that the auto spindash is. (Which tbh, I both like and dislike that Classic Sonic in Gens can activate M speed with the push of a button lol. ) But I believe that the DropDash variant needed to be a tiny bit stronger imo because as it stands right now, you actually slow down if you execute a drop dash after a full charged spin dash. Classic's DropDash speed feels like the Sonic 1 speed cap and that just isn't enough for levels as large as Generations is lol.

I prefer that Generations doesn't have a Super Theme. Super Themes end up getting insanely repetitive and it tales away from the phenomenal level music.

I will never understand why the drop dash is a custom skill for classic and a required moveset for modern sonic. I think that they should've just both been optional or but if it was required for one of them to have it all times wouldn't it make more sense to make it a default move for classic sonic since modern sonic has more downsides to his drop dash

You might want to tinker with the color settings on the capture card you used for the PS5 footage. Generations X does have more poppy colors than Generations 2011, but parts of your footage look almost deep-fried. I know PS5 likes to bundle 4K and HDR together- if you turn on 4K output resolution it seems to turn on HDR as well- so it might be that your capture card can't correctly record in HDR and you didn't realize you had it on. Though tbh I'm envious of your inability to tell resolutions apart, my eyes are awful but I'm now able to see the difference between 1080 and 4K with something close like a phone or a PC monitor and it makes it so hard to go back when I need to 💀 As for the game itself, it's a really solid remaster, you can tell SEGA learned from Colors Ultimate/got that sweet movie money to do it right. The permanent drop dash on modern Sonic and the inability to custom map buttons on console does suck, but everything else is awesome! The rewrites... blegh, I don't hate them but I AM sick of Ian Flynn's Sonic Wiki ass dialogue style. Which is super weird because he did the Shadow Generations prologue and game dialogue fantastically. I hope this is just a test and future games aren't rewritten, because if this is what Flynn did to Generations' nonexistent story, imagine how he would fucking ruin the Adventure games or Unleashed oh god. Tho I don't think anyone on this Earth can stop SEGA's death march to erase literally anything anyone could find "problematic" with Amy. No crush on Sonic, no slapstick comedy, no funny "cute powerhouse" thing going on, they took such a lovable character and scrubbed her of her personality, aspects of which people haven't complained about since her portrayal in Sonic X and 06...

Thanks for the tip, i'll look into it. I used the same capture card and settings for all of the footage shown, so the issue would have to be from either the PS5 or the game itself. I know i've turned HDR off in the past, but like you said it could have been toggled on automatically. I use old and new footage of the game in this video, and have noticed some slight differences in how re-recorded sections looked. So it's possible they tweaked some things with the visuals between launch and now, though i couldn't say for sure. Personally, i'm not too worried with Flynn's writing. I don't read many of the comics, but it's my understanding that the writing there is well liked by many fans. And i think both Frontiers and Generations writing is more of a situational thing. Frontiers in a sense is meant to be a fresh start to the series. The movies brought a renewed interest to the Sonic franchise, so Frontiers was the first Sonic game alot of people played since probably Generations. The series has been pretty messy with it's story after the Adventure era, so this was a chance to show some continuity, since many of the boost games feel disconnected from one another. Plus the slower paced island to island format leaves more room for retrospective since there's not a constant in-your-face threat. And then Generations already didn't have much of a serious story, and was already meant to conjure memories of the past, so why not throw some extra references in? There wasn't much on the line anyway. The Shadow portion is a good example as it doesn't have to fit within the scenes that already existed, and there's much more depth with Shadows story already so there's no need to fluff things out with one-liners.

28:00, I always hated that I lost the level music going super sonic. I'm sorry, the music is cool, but like in Sonic2, I could get all the emeralds by the end of Emerald Hill. Usually before the end of Chemical Plant. Listening to the same music for the next 40 minutes was horrible. I'm grateful for them not using it in the levels. What would work best I think is one run of the Super jingle, then is fades back to the level music, or do something with the level music to "enhance" it while in super mode.

I get that many people find the repetitive super themes annoying. I don't disagree with that at all. But it feels so much less powerful with no change to the music. Plus it's a bit different in Generations since Super is only in the level replays and not an ability you get as you're going through the whole game. But deciding to just not change the music feels like a half-attempt to fix things. I suggest this in another video, but if they did specific Super Sonic remixes for each stage song, that would keep the excitement of the transformation as well as doing away with the repetitiveness. Of course, for a rerelease that's not really realistic. But if they decide to do Super Sonic in the future within levels like this, that is one way it could work rather well.

I enjoyed the video! Glad to see you posting again. Ngl, I skipped the sonic generations portion this time around with my last playthrough. I paid full price for the shadow portion. Can't say it was worth it with that alone, and the issues I had with the sonic portions of the game, I had with shadow. Shadow also felt awkward to control at times too. Especially with some of the transformations. Either way, I did still enjoy the game for the most part.

Is it me, or is the new VA kinda flat? They’re just reading a new script (which has some improvements but is generally disappointing and unnecesary) in the character’s voice, but not really emoting as much as the original. Not like the Sonic series has always had outstanding VA, but I still think it’s a step down over the original.

I hope the Frontiers team DOESNT touch the werehog. All I'd want in a "Unleashed Ultimate," are Sonic character NPCs roaming around (Cream in Apotos, Team Chaotix in Spagonia, Shadow *somewhere*, etc etc.), as well as all DLC stages included, and Chao collection. I dont like Frontiers Combat at all, and the werehog is the standard I put them to, and while Frontiers is flashy, its incredibly slow, limited, and weak. The werehog is fast, while also being somewhat flashy, and theres some real strength in what you do.

Sonic 1 was removed because the emulator became unstable about 30 fps, so they kinda had too.

It runs fine at 60 on the Xbox Series, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be able to handle 30fps.

@GottaBGlitches I dunno man, I just know that's why it was removed from the pc port, and the pc port is what they used for shadow gens. Maybe Sega just limited it to 30 for that emulator when it's running.

I think the Generations rewrite has better voice acting (save for Eggman), and I do prefer most of the changes. But some I definitely don't. Some lines just end up not making sense. Couldn't they have reanimated just a little more? How about have Omega show up at the end alongside everyone else?

40:08 Hell nah, the Werehog is already meh enough as is. It doesn't need to be made into a more boring and repetitive babies first combat system like with what Frontiers has going on. Though the Werehog could really do with some actual tutorials to teach players how its combat works so people don't just mindlessly button mash and take half an hour to beat levels.
