Lemme break this down. Steelers would’ve paid him 45 million in the first 3 years. 90 % of Steeler players signed, play their contract in its entirety. Those who didn’t, were cut a year before the contract end. For instance, Steelers picked up Ryan Shazier 5th year option. They kept their word and signed him two additional years so he could complete his rehab.

Then why only guarantee 10 mil 🤔
@keitho24793 жыл бұрын
@@MysticTjay probably structured that way for cap relief but not certain. I know they convert salary payments to guarantee money year to year. For instance, AB signed a 4 yr 43 million extension before the last year of his rookie deal. He totally outperformed that contract. Instead of him holding out for a new deal or them giving him a new deal they kept converting salary to guarantee payment before the season. So regardless of what happened he would be paid for the entire year. Was his deal for 10 million guarantee off the bat? Unsure of.
@Cured_Ham3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think this is the best example, Shazier’s situation is completely unique compared to others. Dude got paralyzed on the field in pittsburgh and was a fan favorite. I am a 45-year fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and I can remember being pissed off at Le'Veon Bell for not taking the money that they offered especially when they were trying to pay him as the third highest back in all of football and offering that same pay rate for four more years. Running backs normally have a two or three year window so they were still going to be paying Le'Veon as he started his decline in all probability. The one thing that never really changes with the Pittsburgh Steelers is their management of players. They didn't cut Le'Veon Bell but when the Steelers cut a player he almost always has a crap year with his next team. They're very good at measuring the immeasurables when it comes to productivity. I think taking a year off of football just ruined his development and once he signed with the Jets he was only half the player that he had been. It's not just because the Jets were awful. If you watched him he wasn't the same guy. Maybe that would have happened if he had played or maybe not. I remember there being a lot of discussion about how many tackles he had avoided by not playing that year and how he would have a longer career because of it. That doesn't look to be the case.
@CasualLaxBro3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, running backs should have bigger contracts on their rookie deal. Their shelf life is so small compared to other positions, and get used an abused for their first contract that it’s hard for them to get the money they earned.
@brendafirebrand88103 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you and didn’t understand why that wasn’t negotiated in the Bargaining deal last year. They are the one position that gets penalized for having a big year or two - many teams don’t want to pay big for that second contract worried that the back won’t have prime years in that 2nd contract. I also think teams should only be able to franchise tag a player one time. Then the next year they can’t - it’s not fair to the players - I’m saying this a football fan that loves my team.
@danielblack80563 жыл бұрын

It wasn't that he wasn't utilized by the Jets so much as it was that they couldn't. As a steelers fan. This is such a rough situation. I watched dudes like Redman and Dwyer tote the rock HOPING for a leveon Bell.. Then we got one. And Pittsburgh did not want to pay him. Then they pay AB.. allow the team to raid his locker.. Hard situation as a Steelers fan... and Bell fan. Hardest jersey to retire.. Still hoping to get it signed one day. I'll always have love for Bell.

Flemlo you’ve done it once again my good man. The portion of this video that you cover accountability and that accepting something as being your own fault is absolutely spot on. It DOES give YOU the power over a situation and to realize your missteps so you can correct whatever it is that you had done incorrectly. It is hard. It does hurt. It will get better when you take responsibility and just man the F up. It will get better and you will be better off for it. Welcome to the game of life. Go win that shiz. He wanted this massive per year deal but couldn't comprehend that going to a trash team to get it would mean his stats would suck and he would never make the money he could have got if he just stayed put and played for 5 years on a slightly smaller per year total. Solid video; however, some glaring omissions would have provided greater context to Le’ Veon’s football journey. First, like most have already said, at the time, his past and possibly pending drug suspensions. Next, how badly fractured the Steeler's locker room was between players feeling Ben thought he was above his teammates and coaching staff due to his relationship with ownership. That narrative was mainly pushed by Antonio Brown, but LB cosigned. Which was another factor why Bell was not too keen the resign or play for Steelers again. Lastly, his age and injury history make it doubtful Le' Veon will have a resurgence at this point of his career.
@cliffordmedley87313 жыл бұрын
In addition to my above thoughts. I do not think Bell signing with the Jets can be seen as validation of his value. Unlike his running back peers at the time, most of them resigned with the respective teams that drafted them; Le’ Veon, after sitting out a year of his prime, had to sign with a team desperate to upgrade one of the worst rosters in the league. The sentiment after the signing was the Jets outbid themselves to add Bell. Then the GM, Mike Maccagnan, was fired a year after signing Le’ Veon and other high-priced free agents. Which current GM, Joe Douglas, is either cleaning house of these bad acquisitions or restructuring their contracts.

The sad reality is that RBs are a dime a dozen and their careers don’t last long in general ( exception Peterson and gore). Teams can pick up an in drafted RB to do the job a lot cheaper. Plus, RBs are only as good as their O line. Just the reality of the game.

Yea I felt that was a good point too... til thinking that the ppl @ $9 & $15/hr are both low-income... whereas Bell & superstar athletes are making in a day/week, what those low-income ppl make a year. So yea, it's still hard to fault ppl who criticize Bell's financial decisions.
@BmoreAkuma3 жыл бұрын
I get what you're attempting to say but the commentary of "comparing incomes" of your average working class versus the athletic bourg is slightly lacking and kinda lazy. The same $9/hr is fighting for $15 or more themselves.
@avantesmith64423 жыл бұрын
@@BmoreAkuma I think the MAIN point is that pocket watching or judging some for wanting more money is dumb. The 9 to 15 reference speaks more to the “everybody has it worse off” and it’s easy to do rich athletes that way…when literally all of us know at least one person who’d think it is dumb for us to complain about money because they have it worse
