To be honest, the whole CGM and caring for natural hair became a trend. A lot of people jumped on the train and as time passed they realized the commitment and the struggle to growing out any sort of damage they might have and refreshing and finding a routine and everything. So while everyday people may keep on to their wavy curly journey, a lot of content creators hit the ceiling sooner than later because there isn't a ton of possible videos/posts/content to film and present.

It's a lot of gatekeeping lol My hair is wavy curly and people are weird as hell about it. Like they want me to either straighten it or brush it out frizzy and I am not allowed to find what can make my natural texture really look the best. I find that sea water makes my hair dry the most curly but haven't been able to recreate it at home.

try a saline solution. you can get them at the drugstore, way cheaper than a sea salt spray specifically for hair, and put it in a spray bottle.

Funny because I really have the feeling that people are having their hair naturally curly now more than ever. I've never seen so much big haircare brands jumping on the whole CGM (it's even written on the jar of some products now) and not brands that already had a curly hair ligne or brands like Cantu dedicated to natural hair, I find curly hair products at my local drugstore now I've never seen that before, if brands can afford paying chemists and paying for a whole new ligne of curly hair products it's because they know they have a buying audience. All that just to say I'm surprised to hear that.

I was just thinking this same thing! I think it’s a wave of people just discovering their natural hair are coming up and the ones that have been natural are sick of it

@@melindab ah ok I see I didn't think about the fact that the ones who were having their hair natural all this time could be getting bored of it. That makes sense. I'm part of the ones who spent their whole life straightening my hair or finding other ways to wear it (dreadlocks for example) because I couldn't figure out how to manage it so I may be a bit biased as it's been only 8 months I've been wearing my hair curly all the time. But I see what you mean and I think you're right 👍

Bianca is a Huge rule pusher and shames people for using silicones and sulphates. I would think that for HER to say that the curly hair community is toxic is hypocritical. I followed her for awhile but I stopped bc I couldn’t take her high and mighty attitude.

Shes still on the same ish but i agree because the CGM was also a marketing scheme anyway. Nothing wrong with certain ingredients.

I have been on my wavy hair journey for about 3 years now, and I'm still loving it. But it IS A LOT to keep up with! The reason I went "natural," was because I started losing huge clumps of hair, and literally went bald in the front, and under both sides of my hair. I couldn't even put my hair up anymore...I also had SO much heat damage, my hair was so brittle... so I went "natural" to try to fix my problems. It definitely helped bigtime, but I learned along the way to be careful with products because my hair becomes so easily overmoisturized. I definitely do NOT follow most CGM "rules," and I'm fine with that! And I agree with what India said...why are only good hair days celebrated!? Who cares if we have frizz or any other imperfections?!! We are all human, and we are not perfect! If my hair is all frizzy, I celebrate it, and just say, "hey, I got that 80s look going on!" 😆. And the only time I refresh my hair is if I'm going out. Otherwise I really don't care! And another thought, I see the people on social media where everything looks absolutely perfect, and honestly, most of it makes me cringe because I know that's just not reality... I'm not saying any names or anything, but so many KZbinrs make it seem like their lives are perfect, and I had to unsubscribe to their channels. I love "real" content! Sorry for rambling! I hope you have a great day Melinda! Btw, love that makeup look!

its just the same as the whole vegan strict movement. It was nice to try out, but its a lifestyle to stick with it, wich most people are not willing to do forever. Also the whole DevaCurl fiasco kinda let people think that not all expensive products are the best. I have wavy hair like yours, this is why i watch some of your videos. But I like to straighten or curl it how i like, since I´m expressing myself with hairstyles. I followed the CGM method for 8 Months and got a flaky scalp, so i just started using normal shampoo again. I think it should be taken as a guideline, not as the rule.

I'm still at the point in finding a routine that works best for my hair. Though it's more of the next day hair care. I don't really follow too many curly hair youtube channels, mainly because I like to follow someone that has a similar hair type to mine own.

I think especially influencers must get tired of only having curly hair. I have wavy hair (it can get like India's if I style it, but it can also be really straight-ish), and I just try not to worry about if it's wavy or straight, but if it seems more healthy. I pay special attention to my scalp health. Swavy Curly Courtney and Mrs. Midwest both encouraged me to take better care of my scalp. I think India has a lot of trouble because she is a hardcore product saleswoman - that girl knows how to seeeelllll - and I think she's really limited to what she can use and sell through her channel if she tries to stay 100% "natural". I think Biannca Renee is hitting on a different thing though; a lot of black women don't care to wear thier hair natural. I love the way my hair is. But I also never really heat styled my hair. I got one perm once when I was in middle school and it WAS SO STUPID because I literally got the same waves I naturally have if I just don't brush out my hair 🤦‍♀️. If I wanted true curls growing up I used pins or rags and set them overnight, I never even had to use hairspray. I think the only time I ever had my hair heat styled was at a salon. Wearing my hair "natural", whatever that means, is better looking than whatever I was doing before because styling products do protect your hair strands from environmental stressors for several days. But the "super sleek" look is apparently also trendy again, so some people are going to be into that. Flat ironed hair never really looked good on me because my whole aesthetic isn't actually "smooth" or "sleek". I'm a pretty rough and ready kinda person so I think it all worked out for me.

I think it's just a pattern of wanting to try something new. People always heat styling now want to try going natural or vice versa. I think heatless styling can be a temporary solution if you don't feel like doing anything to your hair. I do that now because sometimes I couldn't be bothered to style with gel or mousse and have inconsistencies in styling. At least heatless waves or curls it will be somewhat uniform without the heat damage

To me it doesn't at all seem l like people don't want to wear their hair natural/aren't wearing it natural. It think it is actually rather that people are moving away from expensive brands and not sticking to CGM 100% percent. There was definitely a time when everyone was sticking to it like to a perfectionistic extent and only buying really fancy brands. That being said, I think it's good thing people are doing this. I personally don't really even style my hair curly anymore (because it is boy short, if it were long I would) and I focus a lot more of being minimalistic and using products that are good for the environment as opposed to product that are specifically for curly hair. I think, especially after covid, and the state of the Earth, people are starting to make different decisions when it comes to hair. However, I still wouldn't say the community itself is dying. Like others have said, there are more products now than ever. If anything, CGM is just becoming more mainstream, which maybe makes it seem like it doesn't exist, because it's no longer such a niche thing that is so different from other beauty groups. For example, there is a bigger emphasis on natural products for all hair types now, and a lot of non-curly haired people know CGM.

To add to this (I actually watch India and Bianca's videos now), I agree with India that a lot of people are just done with the expensive and time-consuming aspects of it. I also grew tired of it because I moved somewhere with hard water, which made my hair impossible to deal with, to the point where I was pouring distilled water over my head. To me, it was just not worth all the fuss. The fact that I can now take naps without worrying about my hair. I can go swimming, I can work out. So much stress is gone. I also don't have to worry about having a bad hair day. I was someone who followed the CGM for years and years (even back when like only Devacurl was a thing). I got to the point where my hair was super perfect and beautiful, and I did love it. However, it also made me extremely paranoid about it being perfect all the time and was essentially the only part of my self I relied on to express myself and feel pretty. I think these are the reasons why people are moving away from it, along with maybe the environmental side of things and people not wanting 10,000 products.

Hi can I ask, Is it true that the straight hair could possibly become curly naturally for a long term with a proper care like you all guys doing? And may I get an suggestions on a better product that I can use to make my straight hair naturally wave or curl hair? I will truly appreciate your respond to me thank you so much in advance! Have a wonderful day or night there✨
