It feels healthier. Sorry to my hair dresser, who will have to do a little fixing. Color, just letting the gray come for now. I’m not brave enough. You look good!

Decluttering is great. I kept a ton of gadgets, I use them. I leave coffee maker, toaster and air fryer out, and a big bin of spatulas etc by the stove and bowl of fruit and veggies. That’s as minimal as I’m willing to go. It’s saves excessive movements and time

My sweet mother-in-law cooked huge, delicious meals in a kitchen with a regular top freezer refrigerator, a large electric stove with storage for her original Wearever aluminum cookware from the 1940’s, and ONE cabinet that held the sink and enough counter on each side for a small dish drainer on one and a Mr. Coffee on the other. There was an overhead cabinet on each side of the base one. The kitchen table and four chairs finished out the room. I think it was FDR that said “Do what you can with what you have where you are.” She did, exceptionally well. You are following great advice!

We are on hurricane season as well as facing a re-quarantine (in Houston). We have to have some food stored. We also live in a very small apartment. So our extra canned goods are in an underbed bin. I rotate regularly. We also store our batteries, flashlights, hand sanitizer etc in another underbed bin.

Limiting the crockery, silverware, utensils and pots has been an absolute game changer for us. With everyone home, my kids were using (and not washing) everything we owned on a daily basis - so big mess in the sink and really hard work to get them to load and unload the dishwasher and several dishwasher loads. Now, with most of the things in the basement, we run the dishwasher once a day and in between people just wash what they need to use. THANK YOU, Dawn : )

One of the best things I have done to simplify life has been to stop coloring my hair! I started going grey in my twenties and was mortified by it... Colored at the salon for a while, by myself for a long time, and finally realized how much time and money I was spending on it, not to mention the roots bothering me in between. There is a bit of an awkward time when the grey moves in, but I am SO glad to have embraced real me, and I now in my late 30s have a chic streak of grey and "natural" highlights (old profile pic on you tube, sorry!... ). I have had SO many women, those I know and those I don't, stop me and say how much they love it and how they wish they could be as brave. I tell everyone how worth it it is! I just recently found your videos and have had so much fun hanging out with you and your family, Dawn. Thanks for inspiring my decluttering!

When I was growing up in the south NOBODY ever called the last meal of the day dinner,,,,.our three meals were breakfast, dinner, and supper, in that order. Even to this day, when someone around me talks about dinner, I think they're talking about the noon meal. Great video !

I love you back! The daily paper clutter piled on the end of the counter is the last thing I disallowed in our kitchen and it has been a game-changer! I allow four dishes and bowls each for my husband and I because we I like to run the dishwasher each night rather than wash by hand. We are retired and he has Parkinson's so for us that keeps it simple . We have instilled the habit of rinsing and putting our dishes in the dishwasher after each use. Love your bright and open minimalist kitchen. We have a different approach to grocery shopping, especially since this pandemic, so we keep a lot more food. And we have 5 kids, 3 being active teens, so we just use more. I guess each family needs to do what they are comfortable with, if my husband loses his job I’d like to be able to eat off what is in the house for at least a month. But we don’t waste any food. Leftovers get eaten and I portion things for the freezer on the day we shop. And we don’t have an Aldi so I tend to stock up when items are at their best price. I really need to take a fresh look at my cabinets and see if there are areas we can have “one or none”. One of my rules for the kitchen is that I can’t keep kitchen things if they don’t fit in the kitchen. Nothing stored in a side closet or the basement. That helps keep it reasonable. Love your channel!

This was such a good reminder to me of keeping the inventory low in the kitchen. That was the room I started on when I found your channel last May. It made me so happy to see space that I went thru the rest of the house. The only room I have not purged thoroughly is my sewing room but I will be getting a “Sewing She Shed” next year and then will have the space for my sewing Tools and fabric. My sister who is a die hard minimalist told me when I started my journey that since I loved and used the items in the room it was fine to keep if I was purging in the rest of the house. 😀

We've simplified the kitchen (not quite as much as you) and it's SO much easier to keep up with. I'd like to take it further. We also love the quarantine bucket & the fruit in the pantry. People living in my house were very skeptical of having less pots and pans. And we've barely pulled any out. Also, when people are hungry they look in the pantry for food. I didn't look on the counter at all of the fruit in the bowl. Thank you for your videos, they always have such great nuggets of wisdom.

After watching so many of your videos, from minimalizing to remodeling, yesterday afternoon/evening I decluttered my kitchen. OMG how nicer it looks now. Years ago I removed the upper cabinet doors and always kept everything so neat, but having too many things makes that difficult to keep up and also stressful to the eyes. When I started removing things I felt like were still too busy so I removed more...and more lol. As you say, the more you remove the more you feel that is still too busy. Even the bottom that have the doors I decluttered and look awesome. I still have tons to do, from packing some to give away to separate for my daughter's house when she moves out in a year. I am gonna do that to my whole house, and maybe once I finish I will start over and remove more lol. Please post more videos of remodeling, I really love that. I am like you in changing my mind often to build or remove walls lol I don't mind the mess in between I just love to change. So glad I found your channel.....Love from Burlington, ON, Canada!!!!

Thanks for a great video. We did a major decluttering of our kitchen just a few weeks ago and removed a lot of plates, spoons, knives, forks, all "papers" and other stuff. It was magic to see the effects of all that. It's impossible to have a mess when there are just a few items. I also agree that the rest of the house is easier to keep decluttered when the kitchen is in order.

I live simply on the whole, but the kitchen was a difficult area. 12 months ago I watched your other kitchen video and it really helped. It took hubby 3 months to notice that the microwave had disappeared! We don't miss that at all. We need 3 pans, but that's only because of different dietary requirements/allergies in the house. I also reduced place settings and mugs/cups to one per person for the maximum visitors we'd have if all our family came over. We don't have a dishwasher, so wash up after every meal. Our kitchen is small even by UK standards, so the fruit and stand mixer are on the side, but that's all. We love it, thank you for the inspiration.

I recently challenged myself to further declutter my kitchen. I cleared the counters completely but decided to try not using the dishwasher. I also dont have a space on the counter to air dry dishes so this meant everything has to be washed, dried, and put away immediately. When I'm cooking I almost never set a dirty dish in the sink to be washed after cooking is over. I use it, wash it, dry it, put it away. By the time I'm done cooking the only dishes are the pan and serving spoon. I challenge you to try it! I would love to see the results. Its a game changer!

I can’t believe it. I cut our dishes, bowls, mugs, storage containers and silverware in half (quarantining the extras). It has only been two days, but we were previously running our (half size) dishwasher twice a day with a constant pileup. I haven’t run the dishwasher in 2 days! We have enough dishes to get through the day, and I thought it would be stressful to be on the verge of running out of spoons all the time, but it’s not stressful at all! It’s just a reminder that I need to clean up some spoons. I can’t believe simply reducing our dishes has made such a difference in the sink situation!

I love this - love all the suggestions. One of the best things I have done lately is had everyone choose a different glass cup for themselves. So now, no more excessive amounts of cups to wash - everyone has their own cup / jar and uses it throughout the day. I love the hair! We keep a low inventory of food too and that was not good when this virus hit so I am going to have to rethink for in the future. I went and had to overbuy to stock up, since my plan was to go to the grocery less than what I would normally do. I felt like I needed to make excuses for my bulging cart - I didn't want people to think I was hoarding food - only that I was just buying enough to basically get to their baseline.

I love your hair! I don't think it's too dark at all. It really warms up your face. ❤️

Love your hair! We may use a bowl for breakfast, small plates for lunch and large plates for dinner plus utensils at each and maybe a mug for tea. It all gets put in the dishwasher immediately after use even by my kids and run on delay start overnight and I handwash pans or stainless steel cups. I heard this uses less water than handwashing every thing you use. It works for us. I cook a lot and sometimes also use bowls or plates for leftovers so couldn't manage with only 1 per person :) just what works for us!!

I just showed the dishes clip to my kids and they were all in! Each picked a set: plate, cereal bowl, pasta bowl, glass, egg cup, younger 3 each picked a silicone straw. More than yours have but still let me put a bunch of dishes in a box in the basement!

We are not minimalists, but I always take away excellent hints from your videos--thank you! I never thought I would like something better than the red stools, but the blue is wonderful. They turned out so nice--not as jarring as the black.

Love the hair color & also the stool change seems to have really calmed down your kitchen. Great choices for both.

I was doing so well with keeping grocery inventory low and then I did a bit of panic quarantine stock up. Now I feel overwhelmed with the amount of canned goods that we have. Hopefully I'll work them into some recipes without wasting anything. #zerofoodwaste.

Melinda Allen I bought lots of canned goods, but it is food we like :)

Oh boy! I too was LOVING my almost sparce kitchen pantry, as we have a very tiny space for kitchen and even weirder pantry( had to custom built it into a corner bc there wasn't one at all when we moved in and VERY little cabinet space. So I've always had to be creative about food storage especially canned goods & a round spice rack in there that never really worked well, bc its a triangle shape panty! LOL. I got by just fine having few items in said food pantry, UNTIL, last March when i pandemic shopped! Now, I've not been able to fit it all in, and have to take everything out & then put back in each time i want something from the back( TIME CONSUMING!) I think I've learned my lesson, no more PANIC shopping. ( I actually donated a good portion of many duplicate canned foods. Trying to get back to my simplified pantry! One more reason to not keep an enormous amount of non perishable foods in ur kitchen is the mistake of buying the same things u already have, bc u couldn't SEE or remember if u already have them. ( point #2- wasted$$!) Lesson learned!

I have to say I am a bigger fan of the blonde 2 tone look... but each of us have to look at ourselves so a change always lifts the spirits! For me a self haircut is becoming a greater reality since PA will not be opening that til June- ish. I like any stools ! Kitchen hang up- pots skillets and lids and casseroles and lids. I use them a lot!!! I have lack of storage which is very frustrating! Considering a rack w hooks as you go down to basement for 3 skillets. And to clear more space considering moving all baking supplies to a cabinet in basement because at most I bake once a week. Those changes will help some. Storage conundrums are my specialty! (Boo)

I am NOT a minimalist in the kitchen, but love my dishes and cookware. I enjoy cooking, baking, and keep all my kitchen tools clean. I really don't mind doing dishes. That said, I really want and need to minimize my office paper clutter! I'd much rather be playing with my "toys" in the kitchen. I'm going to search your site for office organization. Thank you, dear. 👍

Totally agree with low inventory on food. Not a popular method but it works for me too!

I’ve been binging your videos the last few days. Have enjoyed all of your tips. I had my house decluttered a few years ago but fell of the wagon when I became pregnant with baby #3. Never recovered. But wow your videos are so motivating, even tips and tricks I already knew, it’s great to have that refresher and reminder of hey, you’re not doing this, do it. 😆

Yes!! Dawn, this is the ONE thing that has paid off the post in my simplifying journey and the kitchen simplifying is what lit the fire to the other areas and made me a loyal subscriber to your channel. The first was cleaning off the counters and simplifying. I have older sons who eat in their rooms and take cups to their rooms/in their cars, so the having one plate/bowl/cup per person does not work here after trying and failing when my husband wanted a cup and they were all gone!! Ha! But everything else has been awesome. I took all the appliances off the counter except the coffee pot and can opener (because it is small and blends in) - and the shopping once a week is a game changer too as it is stressful to have so many things as you said. I keep fruit in fridge and on counter but I have noticed too I get used to it and it blends in, so I am going to move to pantry....I have loved every thing you have suggested and I do spend more time wanting to cook and bake now that the counters are clear. Also, bringing in groceries, having a place to lay the bags is nice!! I totally did not realize you were not naturally a blonde so it is different seeing you with dark hair but I am like you, my natural hair color is brown and I keep it highlighted closer to blonde - love being able to have fun with hair color and have that change sometimes. Thanks for the awesome videos!!

My kitchen was never under control when my four kids lived here! I am getting better at clearing the counters, and my husband helps so much more. ❤️The concept of “inventory “ has been so helpful!!! But, having less, or none takes me back mentally to a time of scarcity, I can tell I resist total clean because it feels sad and lonely! 🤷♀️ I made too many excuses of our messy house being “lived in”, so a clean house must be not lived in?!??🤦♀️ I am moving passed the sadness and focusing on the peace and calm! Until my granddaughters come visit- then it’s back to managing chaos💕💕💕🤣 Thankful for your family journey that you share- praying for you!!

Just remember there is a difference between having JUST what you need without extra fluff in your way, vs NOT having enough due to scarcity or financial insecurity. It’s a mental separation there but once your brain “gets it”, it’s freeing!

Hi Dawn. Love your kitchen. Just a word though for people with teens. They eat heaps! Especially growing boys! You will discover this in times to come lol. I've needed 2 frying pans for let's say spaghetti bolognaise as a really large frying pan doesn't fit on my stove with the big pasta pot. Seasons eb and flow with ages of kids and how many you have and the ring ins that's kids always say, can so and so stay for dinner mum. I've learnt to make some very large meals lol. Downsizing now with some flying the coup. Its good to know your boundaries and have room to grow. Thank you for your videos. 💜
