Phoenician Sailor

Күн бұрын

Recently I won an auction for a large lot of German-crafted surgical tools and a black traditional "housecall" bag, both of which belonged to a Russian doctor in the early to mid 20th century.
I found their contents interesting. Did I get more than I bargained for?
May give ASMR. There is a slight chance that the last 10 minutes may also give the heebie-jeebies.

Very cool video! In case you're truly curious: The sharp, curved, pointy "nefarious-looking" forceps were towel clamps; the "tongs" are fenestrated forceps for obstetrical use (i've only seen them used for D&E); the sharp, grooved/concave pliar-like tools which you suspected were for bone (great guess!) are for removing teeth. I haven't seen the heavy forceps with the "inner groove," but I suspect they are for clamping off large arteries. The "scooping" tool is a curette, which has various uses for soft tissue and bone/cartilage. The "handshake jaw" forceps are called allis (or maybe adair) forceps and they're used to grip and retract tissue. The forceps with the built-in scissors are needle drivers (the scissors are there so you don't have to switch tools to cut the suture). The ones with the single really sharp tooth are kocher clamps, also used to retract/hold tissue (particularly tough stuff like fascia). The "knitting needle" hook is a retractor.

What a haunting story you have created. The realization on your face after reading the letter was chilling! And may I add that your way with words is very very intriguing. We can leave it up to you to turn a seemingly simple "what's in my bag" video into a work of story-telling art. It was overall relaxing, with some funny moments, some creepy (mostly due to the nature of the tools) and then the ending was outright haunting. The acting is so convincing that it leaves me wonderful how much of the story was fabricated! I can't wait to see your collaboration with ER.

Phoenician Sailor I completely agree with you other comment; seeing how people inspire each other (and I haven't ever heard someone accuse another of 'stealing', which is also great) is amazing. And darn, you really had me. Up until things started to get a bit.. off ;). I was actually in an old army dump store (is that what they call it in English? like old army supplies, basically) and they had a whole range of medical equipment. I thought of you and I was so, so tempted but my dad would've probably thought I'd finally gone over the deep end if I got a bunch of it..

So I put this video on in the background whilst I am sitting up horribly late at night completing my marking assignments that should have been done a while back...thought I'd have some nice, relaxing asmr to help me focus. Yep...I ended up with something I couldn't take my eyes off and a shiver up my spine that has nothing to do with tingles! I don't know if this is asmr but I do know I liked it. What an interesting and unique take on the whole thing.

I think my subconscious is somehow conspiring to maximize the creepiness of this video. It's taken me three tries to get through it, because I kept falling asleep. The first time I fell asleep around the 23:00 mark, even though I was interested in the surgical tools, because it was 4AM. The second time I fell asleep around 36:00 -- long enough to know it was about to get weird up in here, but just before you finished going through the implements. But I had noooo trouble staying awake the third time until the end... the hair on the back of my neck was standing up. Brilliant!

The curved forceps are often used for suturing. The pincher type ones are tenaculum (I believe; it's hard to see them) and are used for grabbing and moving fine tissues. I think the ones with the lengthwise grain are tubing forceps. I've never seen a retractor like that, but I can believe that it is one. Very interesting. And oh! Those look like bone scrapers at the end. Sweet! Also, the sides were probably used for bandages and other disposable supplies.

fantastic facial hair youve got there, I hope its keeping your face nice and toasty; (here in Canada it is irritatingly cold and sporadic weathered).
